Ben Henderson Visited Three Different Emergency Rooms After Cerrone Fight

Ben Henderson WEC champ
(Smiling on the outside, damn near dying on the inside.)

While we marveled at how much WEC interim lightweight champion Ben Henderson was able to fight through en route to winning a very close and possibly bullshit decision over Donald Cerrone at WEC 43, he didn’t emerge unscathed from the five-round battle.  Over at, Ariel Helwani reports that after the fight Henderson collapsed in the locker room and abruptly stopped sweating, which led to him being rushed to three different emergency rooms to receive a total of four IV’s to treat his dehydration.

As if that weren’t enough, a strike from Cerrone’s heel seriously injured his left eye in the closing seconds of the bout.  There was some concern that he might have a detached retina, but after seeing a specialist they learned on Sunday morning that it wasn’t quite that bad, and he probably won’t need surgery.  He’s scheduled to see another specialist back home in Phoenix today, but regardless of the diagnosis he will not be able to fight Jamie Varner in December.  We’re sure that will disappoint WEC general manager Reed Harris, who could be heard instructing Henderson to “call [Varner] out” at the end of the Versus broadcast, but Henderson’s manager says he could be cleared to fight in January or February, assuming that the WEC is still around by then and his eye has become fully operational.

This fighting other people for money, it’s a tough business, no?

Ben(s), you are fucking idiots. Stop jocking Donalds nuts for once and realize he lost the fight. Fucking morons you guys posted 3 seperate articles all in which you are crying about Ben Henderson winning. Just because you were marveled at Donalds BJJ and wish you were that good doesnt mean you got to keep whining about the decision. I never really have a problem with what you guys do but this is completely retarded. Biased fucking jews.

Soda Popinski- October 13, 2009 at 12:33 pm
or a Great Clips.

With the continued evolution of MMA, it's starting to seem nearly impossible to get thru an evenly matched fight without both fighters needing emergency medical attention. Ironically, fighters will become more violent in order to avoid serious injury. Soon, Fans will witness the first dimak by the end of this year. By 2012 - which we all know is the end of the Mayan calendar - fighters will be ripping hearts from chest, spines from backs, and making their opponents spotaneously combust to sound of Dana White's signature "toasty!" shout.

It was a tough call and a close decision. I won't fault Ben and Ben for not falling in line with the other 75% of online pundits. They had an opinion, you have yours. If you disagree, fine. Make your case and move on. But faulting them for not falling in line with the majority, well, the majority is never wrong. Right, Mr. Bush?
sxjohnson- October 13, 2009 at 12:15 pm
High-5 to ZMMAJUNKY I totally agree with you. Plus, let's remember, even if you don't like the decision the WEC has NOTHING to do with what state-commission-appointed judges decide.

& Gee-Yuh-teen, the WEC (i.e. Zuffa) pays for all medical bills and rehab incured during training for a fight or during an actual fight. Luckily Henderson gets to pocket his purse money, and extra $20k in bonus money.

Bens...what's your beef w/ the WEC. Why are you hating so hard?
GetUpAndKill- October 13, 2009 at 12:12 pm
What's with Cerrone and causing detatched retinas...or should I say in Varner's case...detatched tearduct.

Three different ER's????? That's when you know it's time to move to Canada.

jimbonics- October 13, 2009 at 12:10 pm
You asked with your eyes, Trent. You asked with your eyes.
Scott- October 13, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Did I miss something? Why did he have to go to 3 different ERs?
Soda Popinski- October 13, 2009 at 12:08 pm
kinda wish he'd visit a SuperCuts.

What a difference Leonard Garcia's Tapout cowboy hat makes...
GEE-yuh-TEEN- October 13, 2009 at 11:04 am
His pay < His medical bills.

Cerrone was immediately rushed to 3 honky tonks to get his drink on and put that mechanical bull in his place.
ZMMAJUNKY- October 13, 2009 at 11:00 am
I hate to say it because Cage Potato is one of my favorite MMA Websites, but Cage Potato is starting to sound like Donald Cerrone's girlfriend by bitching about the decision this much. If you go to almost any other MMA website, 75% of the people agree that Ben won. It was definitely close, but Ben won. I wanted Cerrone to win and I was cheering for him, but I’m being honest and not bias like most people are when it comes to sports.
VistingDeadAncestors- October 13, 2009 at 10:53 am
they even later rushed him to a salon to get his hair some desperately needed conditioner, as it too was dehydrated.
LowelltheHammer- October 13, 2009 at 10:50 am
And watch as the comments roll in about how this definitely means that Cerrone won the fight.

EDIT: The good news for Cerrone fans is that this probably means that Cerrone fills in and fights Varner, with the winner taking on Henderson. Could potentially give him the opportunity to avenge both of his losses in a row.

This definitely means that Cerrone won the fight.
