Bisping To Get Pummeled In UK Football Stadium?

(Bisping’s piercing gaze is better than Silva’s. So there’s one thing he’s got.)

Dana White has been floating the idea of a UFC stadium show in Hawaii at some point in the future, but according to the Lancashire Telegraph he’s not ruling out the possibility of doing one in Britain with his favorite UK poster boy in the main event:

“He looks better every time he is out,” [White] said. “And it would be great to bring a Bisping title fight to a football stadium in England.”

Title fight you say? As in, for the UFC middleweight title? Against Anderson Silva? Interesting.

It’s hard to disagree with White’s point about Bisping improving in every outing, but at the same time there are some major differences between looking good against Jason “Dooms” Day and doing the same against “The Spider.” For instance, imagine what Dan Henderson or Rich Franklin would do to Jason Day, and then let your imagination run wild after that.

For his part, Bisping seems realistic/optimistic about that prospect:

“The way I fought (on Saturday) is the way I used to fight in England, destroying guys,” said Bisping after the fight.

“I don’t think I am anywhere near the finished product but I think I can go through the majority of the middleweight division.

“And if I want to take on Anderson Silva I have to get on my game.

“I have a long hard road ahead but I am willing to make the sacrifices. I will do it.

“I am on a mission. I would like to be the first UK guy to hold a UFC belt.”

That’s good. It’s nice to have goals. It’s not so nice to be punched by Anderson Silva.

There’s no word just yet on who Bisping’s next opponent will be, but he did remark that he wants to take some time off and come back in October. If the UFC wants to set up Bisping-Silva for some time in the near future, look for them to match “The Count” up against tougher competition and let him prove he’s ready first.

Anyway, I think he deserves a title shot more than Patrick Cote does. Patrick Cote looked very sub-par in his latest fight.

I was front row at the cage to see Michael in his last fight at the O2 arena (which I thought was not one of the better UFC event's) certainly not for £480 a ticket. Anyhoo, Bisping looked good but Jason Day standing in for Chris Leben?? Come on, that's hardly a substitute of similar quality! fightfan is dead on the money when he says there are a bunch of folk more tested and impressive than Bisping who deserve a title shot and although people say the middleweight division doesn't have a good pedigree I think that's only because Anderson Silva looks soooo good. Totally agree Bisping needs more testing in fairness I don't think that's his fault and more a case of UFC not wanting to get their UK poster boy whupped (which is of course a daft argument because us Brits just don't have that same patriotic streak the Americans and couldn't give a hoot about nationality unless the fighter is actually from your home town). I think Okami, Henderson, Franklin, Marquardt are surely out of Bisping's league at the moment (at least on paper). Would like to see how Bisping matches up the likes of Evan Tanner or Travis Lutter. In fairness to the UFC and Joe Silva, I think Chris Leben would have been a good challenge - he may be fat with a silly haircut but he's certainly no walkover!

I challenge bisping to a fight, im 225 and have never had professional training. if i can last the fight, what does that say bout bisping.......exactly what ive said all along, he is no where near a threat in his division. i realize i am a heavyweight, but if he is so good, why not prove it by beating an amateur heavywieght.......lets do it!!!!

It is very smart of Dana to try to promote the best UK UFC star this way. UK football stadiums will fit way more people than an arena and the more butts in seats the more cash in pocket. The only people that Bisping struggles with are the ones that just want to laynpray.

@Fightfan...Where the hell did you make that list? Leben may have faught good fighters but got his ass kicked by them, I mean he lost to Kalib "Runaway" Starnes. Kammpman is just coming back from not fighting for a while, Franklins gotten not only beat but demolished twice by Silva, Hendo's last fight was against Silva so he wont get a rematch. Bisping is an active fighter in the UFC so it would make sense that he gets the title shot. Regardless of how bad he would get his ass beat, if he fights who they ask him to fight then he should get his shot. I do feel that he needs a big name under his belt before a title shot but it wouldnt be fair that just because somebody has faught big name people in there past, then they get to skip the active people now for a shot. That'd be like giving Matt Hughes another shot just because he has faught so many good people in his past. I would love to see a Bisping/Hendo or Bisping/Franklin fight.

dana (shaw) white, and micheal (kimbo) bisping. Dana likes to promote the guys he likes not who deserves it, ufc NEEDS to establish a proper ranking system, not just give who ever he likes a title shot. although he only hinted a t a title fight for bisping and didn,t say when he has given title fights to unproven yahoo's before for ratings. If he's not careful it'll be eliteUFC
love a good fight- June 9, 2008 at 1:05 pm
First off, Bisping IS a good fighter. Second the stadium fight is just business.... and what better way to help MMA move into the main stream than a big fight like Bisping in his home town? At least it would be a fight and not another fiasco like that Kimbo mess.
As for a title shot... a little pre mature I agree...
Now is it just me, or aren't we all looking around asking ourselves who can take on Anderson Silva and put up a good fight? I know I am...

He doesn't look so good when you put him against decent fighters.

Evans = lost

Hamill = lost (yea he lost, everyone knows)

@ 185, not even bringing up Silva, if they put him against Okami, Miller, Lindland, Marquardt, Henderson, Franklin, Leites, Filho, Misaki, Kampmann, Cung Le, Lutter, Quarry, Cote, Mousasi, Dennis Kang, Dong Sik Yoon, Zelg Galesic, etc... He wouldn't shine as bright as Dana wants him to.

He's a marketing tool, pure & simple.

bisping is a bum, and until he fights not one , but a few top contenders.....and wins, than he should have a title shot. offering him a title shot is insulting to the other fighters in his division.
MKXii- June 9, 2008 at 2:13 am
They'll probably toss one more good fighter at him like Henderson or Franklin and if he wins it's obv he'll get the shot.

Oh and p.s. WARKUCINICH!
fightfan- June 9, 2008 at 12:03 am
Kaleb, it is too bad that people just dont realize how bad they building up an average fighter. They are actually those that believe the hype that Bisping is good.

Another handpicked by the UFC opponent for Bisping to go in and look strong against. wheteher it is a ONE dimensional BJJ fighter that couldnt fight his way out of a paper bag, or maybe a sub 500 Elvis Sinosec(also 1 dimensional BJJ fighter).

Someone mentioned Maia. Bisping will beat him too. And if the UFC places Bisping against him, they know he will be a 3/1 or 4/1 favorite to win. None of the ONE DIMESNIONAL BJJ fighters do too well inthe UFC, especially against a decent striker with average takedown defense.

You have to know that TUF 3 was there just for EITHER Bisping or the deaf guy to win. I mean look at the other LH fighters that were there. The biggest joke of a fight list.
fightfan- June 8, 2008 at 11:57 pm
I cant believe they are talking title shots?? Bisping has to FIRST off, start fighting decent competition, then after that he has to fight a couple contenders, then if he cn win those 4 or 5 fights, then maybe in about 2010 he may be ready for a title shot.

Such B.S. talking about Bisping and a title shot???? There are other guys that have fought as many competitiors as Bisping has fought cans and he is being thrown in together with a title shot possiibility???? Kampmann, Leites, Franklin, Almeida, Henderson, even Kote or Leben as starters. And that is just 7 or so off the top of my head. there are probably a few more above Bisping in accomplishments in the MW division.

Dana has no right to talk about how eliteXC builds up Kimbo by facing him against cans.....The UFC have been doign the same for Bisping since Hammil was injured on TUF 3. As soon as bisping got beat up by AVERAGE competition hammil and Evans, they throw him against a below average ONE dimensional, RETIRED McCarthy amd a at best average Jason Day and all of a sudden they are talking superstar and stadium shows. What a joke!!!!!

The only respect I have for TUF winners are people liek Nate Diaz who CALLS out the best and says that he does NOT want to be babied with easy competition and even Forrest calling out Sho gun after Tito Ortiz.

Just how many fights will it take for Bisping to fight a contender????? It has been already 6 ot 7, that is RIDICULIS!!!

I think it's realistic to think Bisping's next foe will be Demian Maia. Both off of victories, but Maia's MMA game isn't as polished as some of the truly elite Middleweight fighters on the UFC roster. It would be a good test for both men, seeing how Maia can deal with an adept kickboxer and how Bisping handles top-tier Jiu-jitsu.
BIG CHRIS- June 8, 2008 at 9:23 pm
I think Chris Leben would have gave Bisping a lot more problems Than Day did....I think giving Leben another shot at him wouldn't be a bad idea, But Bisping isn't ready for Silva. That fight definatley should not happen....
Kaleb- June 8, 2008 at 9:05 pm

Mr J. Silva needs to stop recieving something special from Bisping, and start giving him some real fights.
"Here you go bisping, another slouch to rape, and uhhh here, in your home town, oh i forgot to tell you, try to make it look like it was a hard fight for you, its this guys first fight in the UFC, k thanks Mike"
And also, give bisping a good fight,
Shoot it wouldn't matter where silva faught bisping, it would be domination.
Give Bisping a real fight, then we talk.
again.. in Nevada..and uhh about 3 of em.
jakey- June 8, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Bisping hasn't passed any real test the ufc's put to him like hamill or evans. Ok he's been steam-rolling cans like Sinocic, Haynes, Schafer, Pointon & Mccarthy.

Day was put forward because he'd beat belcher impressively - and belcher looked impressive against Starnes and Salmon but is that sayin much?

Bit MMa Math there but that works sometimes
