Dana White has been floating the idea of a UFC stadium show in Hawaii at some point in the future, but according to the Lancashire Telegraph he’s not ruling out the possibility of doing one in Britain with his favorite UK poster boy in the main event:
“He looks better every time he is out,” [White] said. “And it would be great to bring a Bisping title fight to a football stadium in England.”
Title fight you say? As in, for the UFC middleweight title? Against Anderson Silva? Interesting.
It’s hard to disagree with White’s point about Bisping improving in every outing, but at the same time there are some major differences between looking good against Jason “Dooms” Day and doing the same against “The Spider.” For instance, imagine what Dan Henderson or Rich Franklin would do to Jason Day, and then let your imagination run wild after that.
For his part, Bisping seems realistic/optimistic about that prospect:
“The way I fought (on Saturday) is the way I used to fight in England, destroying guys,” said Bisping after the fight.
“I don’t think I am anywhere near the finished product but I think I can go through the majority of the middleweight division.
“And if I want to take on Anderson Silva I have to get on my game.
“I have a long hard road ahead but I am willing to make the sacrifices. I will do it.
“I am on a mission. I would like to be the first UK guy to hold a UFC belt.”
That’s good. It’s nice to have goals. It’s not so nice to be punched by Anderson Silva.
There’s no word just yet on who Bisping’s next opponent will be, but he did remark that he wants to take some time off and come back in October. If the UFC wants to set up Bisping-Silva for some time in the near future, look for them to match “The Count” up against tougher competition and let him prove he’s ready first.
