Brandon Vera: Punk-Ass Bitch?

Lyoto Machida to Tatame.com, via MMA Mania:

“It’s true. I was offered to fight at [UFC Fight Night 14], but Brandon Vera did not want it. I do not know what happened, but he did not accept the fight.”

Hey, I wouldn’t accept a fight against Machida either — then again, I don’t have a reputation to uphold. As previously reported, Vera will instead be fighting IFL vet Reese Andy at UFN 14, which seems like a more appropriate opponent for Vera in his light-heavyweight debut — especially since the match requires Vera to cut weight for the first time and fight just six weeks after his last appearance. Machida is the guy you send in when you want someone to lose in a particularly embarrassing way, not when one of your popular rising stars is riding back-to-back losses and desperately needs to be re-established. Still, does this mean we could be seeing the return of The Dragon, free on SpikeTV?

First his ridiculous claim he's going to win the heavyweight & light heavyweight belts and not backing it up, then his contract dispute which is looking like being of his own making although he blames his management - then losing to Tim and then losing to Verdoom; and now this -

The guy is never going to be a champ in the UFC - and by the sound of things - giving him Machida - they want him out

Oh wait i could have witnessed another Lyoto "The Running Man" Machida fight on cable tv??? I have never been so happy a fighter said no to a fight before in my life. UFN 14 was kind of mediocre at best anyways. Add a almost guaranteed 3 round decision fight to the card and it probably would have been worse.

Plus if Machida is as good as everyone says he is why would the UFC feed him a cry baby on a losing streak. I think the number "2" ranked LHW needs a top 10 talent fight by now.

Suspect stoppage aside, I was expecting a lot more from Vera last fight. He wasn't winning as he claims. He's slipping and that sucks. Get it back, Vera.

It's not free because I still have to pay for the channel. But 'FREE' is about what I'd pay to see Machida again. I respect the effectiveness of the style but the style is FUCKING boring to sit through 3 rounds of it. I know what I won't be watching when he's drawing out a 5 round title fight.

Okay yeah, I totally get that they don't want him to go 0-3 for the year. However, wouldn't it be wiser and in the best interests of building him up if they gave him more than six weeks between fights? They're pretty much setting him up for an embarrassing upset.

And it's not like they have a definite need for him on the UFN card. He's not even a draw at the mid-card level.
