Brian Bowles to Defend WEC Bantamweight Title Against Dominick Cruz in March

(Bowles didn’t just shock the world — he threw a toaster into the tub while the world was trying to relax in it with a glass of red wine and the latest Nora Roberts novel.)

After scoring one of the biggest upsets of the year in August — knocking out the seemingly-indestructible Miguel Torres in the first round of their bantamweight title fight at WEC 42Brian Bowles is ready to defend his crown. The WEC announced yesterday that Bowles (8-0) will next compete at WEC 47, which is slated for March 6th at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. His opponent will be 15-1 contender Dominick Cruz, who has won his last four WEC fights by decision, and whose only career loss came in a featherweight bout against Urijah Faber back in March 2007. Cruz most recently won a unanimous decision over much-hyped up-and-comer Joseph Benavidez at WEC 42, earning the event’s Fight of the Night award.

Miguel Torres is also slated to compete on the card against a yet-unnamed opponent. And even though he basically retired in June, Jens Pulver will be fighting at the Columbus event as well. WEC 47 — which will take place during the weekend of the annual Arnold Sports Festival — will mark the organization’s first show in Ohio.

Semi-related: No matter how his fight against Ed Ratcliff turns out this Saturday at WEC 45, Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone plans to drop to featherweight for his next fight.

pardon the upcoming vulgarity... i don't want to ever hear, read about, or have brought to my attention anything about jens pulver. his career is over and he is irrelevant.
he made an ass of himself when he and bj penn were coaches on TUF, then an even bigger ass when bj outclassed him in every way when they fought.
i'm not even a penn fan, but he summed up pulver's career in one sentence: "Jens Pulver beat BJ Penn once, and that made his career. If BJ Penn had beat Pulver way back when, would anyone have cared?"
I've said it before, it's time for li'l evil to move to northern montana, someplace without phones, tv, cell capability or internet access. fuck, someplace so remote that food supplies have to be air-dropped ever 3 months, just so i never have to hear about that little shit stain again.

I had a button like that once. Replaced it with a zipper that wanted to break my arm. It's a no-win situation.

Also, +10 awesome points for the user name shitwhistle.

I didn't think this was that shocking. Sure, Torres is an animal, but I'd been watching Bowles on WEC programming for awhile now and all his wins were convincing. He's a fantastic fighter with an all-around skill set and he hits hard, obviously.

Plus, he's cute as a button.... a button that wants to punch you in the face.

Fluke probably wasn't the right word. I'd call it 1 in 100 chance, but you're right he won fair and square. I think Torres whips his ass next time, and in the rubber match.

u cant call an ass whuppin a fluke my friend.. maybe a bad day ,but certainley not a fluke. if your a champ and your heads not in it.. then u aren't cut out to be the champ too much longer.

I think Bowles will hold the title until Torres is ready to fight him for it again. I think it was a fluke and the Miguel's head wasn't in it from the beginning.

Must be the bowl cut...

Bowles won't hold it for too long. I just know it.
