Bud Light Issues a Warning to the UFC About the Behavior of Their Fighters

(“Fine. I’m going to *respectfully* get on top of my wife, okay?”)

If there’s one thing the UFC has taught us lately, it’s that rape jokes aren’t funny, especially when delivered by people with bad taste and zero comedic ability. So it was only a matter of time before the promotion’s major sponsors started getting uncomfortable. In light of new criticism from watchdog group Alcohol Justice, Anheuser-Busch (Bud Light’s parent company) released a statement warning the UFC to crack down on their employees’ insensitivity. From Advertising Age (via MMAMania):

We’ve communicated to the UFC our displeasure with certain remarks made by some of its fighters, and they have promised to address this. If the incidents continue, we will act,” the brewer said in a statement. A-B, which did not elaborate on potential actions, also stated that it “embraces diversity and does not condone insensitive and derogatory comments rooted in ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, etc.”

Anheuser-Busch’s comments were released prior to the company’s shareholders meeting in Brussels, Belgium yesterday. Earlier this month, Alcohol Justice sent an open letter to A-B shareholders, blasting the UFC and Bud Light for “delivering harmful content to millions of underage youth,” citing the “sexist, homophobic, violent and derogatory remarks” made by some of their fighters and Dana White himself. They even criticized that Bud Light Lime ad with Arianny Celeste. (Damn killjoys. What’s wrong with being sexy?)

The UFC, which renewed a multi-year sponsorship deal with Bud Light last April, responded with the following statement to Ad Age: “With over 425 athletes on our roster, there have unfortunately been instances where a couple athletes have made insensitive or inappropriate comments. We don’t condone this behavior, and in no way is it reflective of the company or its values.”

OMG, the PC police are at it again! I can see if Bud was sponsoring an individual fighter that they'd be all over it if that fighter was saying the wrong stuff. But Bud sponsors the whole LEAGUE. What a couple guys do or say should not bother them that much. Do the sponsors of the NFL or NBA send nasty letters to the league when a player does something wrong? Those guys are getting in trouble for major shit all the time. I think A-B needs to get over itself. It's beer. Maybe the UFC should try to get PBR and just fire Bud as its beer sponsor. Geez... and I'm a Bud drinker myself.

Idiots. Did they not know what the UFC was when they decided to sponser them? These are professional fighters that beat the hell out of each other. If they want to make jokes about being tough let them. The second they start acting on those tasteless jokes (like that stupid piece of shit Overeem) then you can take action. Like others have said, A-B, don't forget what your product does to people. How many people a year die from UFC related liver failure and car crashes?

LOL, an alcohol company acting like it's the Moral Police. What a crock. Danomite nailed it. Anheuser-Busch's legally sold drug is responsible for more problems across this country than you can believe. They need to STFU with all this high horse nonsense.

Bud Light? No thanks, give me a Guinness or some good scotch on the rocks. Screw that no flavor swill.
angry little feet- April 26, 2012 at 10:06 am
Guinness is good - but Beamish is the shit!
The Fresh One- April 26, 2012 at 10:05 am
You're about 24-28, right? Sure, Guinness is great for someone who just finished college and realized there is beer besides Natty and Busch. Rookie beer. Next, you'll get into Micros. Then, you'll be that guy at a BBQ or such with your own little special sixer, talking down to Bud drinkers. A few years later, total beer consciousness. You will realize MEN drink whatever beer is offered. Congrats, you've come full circle! Oh, and scotch rocks? Always bourbon, always neat. Try Basil Hayden!
RwilsonR- April 26, 2012 at 10:17 am
I'm with Fresh One. Drink what's there, and don't be a pansy about it. Microbrews are great, but I'm not ashamed to toss back a few BLs or CLs.
And drink your whisky neat so you can taste it. I'm with Viva on the scotch. Give me a nice smokey Islay.
The12ozCurls- April 26, 2012 at 10:33 am
Just discovered "whiskey stones" - best god damn thing I have ever found. Keeps your scotch/bourbon/whiskey cold without diluting it. Genius shit. Damn I love BevMo.
The Fresh One- April 27, 2012 at 9:45 am
Whiskey stones, you say? I'm listening...
RwilsonR- April 26, 2012 at 2:32 pm
Yeah, I've seen those stones but never tried them.

Whoops. That should be www.bloodlight.net. My mistake.

Anybody else think this is hilarious coming from a company that sells a legal drug which is a contributing factor in more assaults, rapes, and homicides than practically any other product in existence(except guns, of course)? Because of alcoholic beverages such as Bud-Light, there are probably more fights amongst the crowd during and after a UFC event than there are actual fights in the octagon. And they have the nerve to talk about fighter conduct? When Mike Whitehead raped that woman who was passed out, she was most likely passed out because she was drunk, maybe even from an Anheuser-Busch product. Hell, he was probably even drunk himself when he did it. I have no ending to this rant so I will conclude by saying Fuck these drug peddling cocksuckers in their hypocritical asses.
Dog Dicks Magoo- April 26, 2012 at 8:05 am
It's a fucking beer company. Their product causes me to be racist, homophobic and sexist towards women. If anything they need to give Brock more money for being a perfect rep for the company.
CroCopped- April 26, 2012 at 7:59 am
And if you read even further, you'll see that Alcohol Justice claims that Bud Light is being referred to as Blood Light. I'd never heard that before and googled it. About the 10th row down you'll find www.bloodlight.com. I clicked on it and it shows a video sponsored by the Culinary Workers Union. That's interesting as the union are feuding with the Fertitas because their casinos won't join their union. It's a hatchet job plain and simple.

hxxxp://alcoholjustice.org/press-room/press-releases/744-ultimate-fighting-championship-ufc-gives-worlds-biggest-beer-producer-worlds-biggest-public-relations-black-eye.html Further details on what these crazy people have to say. Strangely enough they don't mention the NFL and their massive number of concussions. Isn't this also Budweiser that is a massive sponsor of professional boxing? These people are aiming at a minority sport (which is still what MMA is) and hoping to rock the boat. Hopefully Anheuser-Busch can see them for what they are!
Jager Mario- April 26, 2012 at 7:43 am
I dont think Alcohol Justice is Made up of a lot of beer drinkers.. That being said how awesome would it be if Bud told them to suck a donkey dick and fuck off.

Hopefully Dana buys inMev one day and shows them how to have balls.

When I think of sensistive, politically correct, and morally sound...I think of Bud Lite beer and UFC fights. Yeah.
CroCopped- April 26, 2012 at 7:33 am
I'm confused. Why is Anheuser-Busch taking a self appointment, ten person watchdog seriously? Why didn't they step up after Brock openly insulted their brand after UFC 100? Mind you, this is the same group that wants to remove alcohol entirely from sports which isn't going to happen. Budweiser has been very happy to promote the FA Cup in England even after the spait of rascism problems to with football. I really am confused. Can't Alcohol Justice complain that Budweiser just produces lager that tastes awful?
