CagePotato Debuts Power Rankings: Let the Bitching Begin!

(Where did Randy and Rush land in our pound-for-pound top ten?)

Hawk-eyed CagePotato readers may have noticed a new link on the right side of the page — POWER RANKINGS (!!!), our list of the world’s ten best fighters in each weight class, from heavyweight to featherweight. Well, featherweight only gets a top five because they’re half the size of normal fighters, and fans only care half as much about them. But we also have a “Pound-for-Pound” list, which ranks the ten best fighters in terms of talent, regardless of weight class.

In creating these rankings, we took into account not just recent fight history, but past accomplishments and our own opinions on how each fighter would perform against other elite fighters in their division. Of course, all of this is open for debate, and we’ll soon be building separate pages for each weight class that will allow you to comment on them individually. In the meantime, check out the rankings and use the comments section on this post to give us your own thoughts. Stay tuned for more updates on our Power Rankings, which will be updated after most major fight cards. Let’s get it on!

Also wasn't gomi subbed in one of those nick diaz eye explosion fights with a gogo?
He hasn't fought since, which isn't his fault I hear, but still.

GSP p4p? If the new fit Bj stays the way he is, do you think he'd give Gispers a run for his money? Also, Fedor is more around third I'd say, but I'm one of those people who bitchs about the competition he has. He'd still beat randy though.

@ lolwut:

Ben Rothwell is a Miletich fighter who destroyed every single heavyweight in the IFL before he left to become a bigger star elsewhere. It hasn't happened yet, but it will. He's won his last 13 fights, including matches against Ricco Rodriguez, Dan Bobish, and current IFL heavyweight champ Roy Nelson (who wouldn't be champion if Rothwell hadn't left).

That's what I thought and I agree totally with Serra & GSP. I somewhat agree with you on chuck but I would rank Jardine higher. but I guess we'll see if what happens if they feed him to chuck again.

@ GSP:

Yeah, and Matt Serra beat GSP. But we think GSP and Chuck have more talent than Serra/Jardine, have accomplished far more in their careers, and would have better luck against the other guys in their divisional rankings. Not to call Serra and Jardine's wins flukes, but we're looking at the bigger picture...
canuck- January 23, 2008 at 6:19 pm
i think chuck gets some kudos for holding the title for so long. Serra beat GSP but i think we all know who the better fighter is there.
groovekill- January 23, 2008 at 6:19 pm
didnt jardine beat chuck. and wup griffin with a knockout in the first round, that made him cry and whine all through the post fight interview.
GSP- January 23, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Didn't Jardine beat Chuck??

hmmm, i thought the lists were pretty good. there may be a few guys that i think are a little over rated but thats alright nothing major. To TitoG and godzillad: its alright to have an opinion one way or another but if you dont like the rankings maybe you should back up your remarks with how you would change the rankings and why.
godzillad- January 23, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Damn those rankings suck. You guys are coming off as giant know nothing marks who started watching MMA this summer like the guys at Inside Pulse.
Sideshow- January 23, 2008 at 4:52 pm
You guys love Machidia a lot more than me & most others. He barely beat Penn who is a light weight. Sure Fanklin, Bonnar & a flash in the pan Sokoudjou. Lets see what happens vs. Tito. I am sure I am in the minority but I bet Tito rolls!

I disagree, TitoG. (Hey...that rhymes!)

I actually think that it's a pretty damn good list. Anderson Silva at #1 for Middle-Weights? Sounds solid to me........

...but then again, I drink a take my opinion with a grain of
