CagePotato Power Rankings Updated

(Still the best heavyweight. Still the best personalized t-shirt.)

Heads up: In the wake of Affliction and WEC’s shows last weekend, we’ve updated our heavyweight, light-heavyweight, and featherweight Power Rankings. Every top-ten list has been updated at least once this month, so swing by and get to debating/complaining, and be sure to check in again next week as UFC 94 may have significant impact on the welterweight and light-heavyweight lists. Fighters that are sitting just outside the rankings include…

HW: The winner of Gonzaga/Carwin at UFC 96 will most likely enter the top ten; also, Antonio Silva and Fabricio Werdum are close

LHW: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Luis Cane

MW: Yoshihiro Akiyama, Thales Leites, Ronaldo Souza, Michael Bisping, Chael Sonnen

WW: Jay Hieron, Karo Parisyan, Nick Diaz, Matt Serra, Paul Daley, Mike Swick

LW: Jamie Varner, Frankie Edgar, Takanori Gomi, Mitsuhiro IshidaGilbert MelendezNate Diaz

FW: Dokonjonosuke Mishima, Hideki Kadowaki, Akitoshi Tamura, Joseph Benavidez

P4P: Lyoto Machida and Mike Brown

Glad to see both of the Diaz brothers on there I can't wait to see their next fights.

Vitor? Why caused he KO out a has not been relevent in a long time MW? Gimmie a break who did he beat before that... Terry Martin thats who, so its not like he is beating top comp or anything close to it.... and now you want to talk about him in the top 10 MW's ???? No way.

How is Mike Brown close to being on the P4P list? The guy has beaten one major fighter. Until he really tests himself (i.e. fights Faber again and wins) then he should not even be considered. We have seen almost nothing from this guy. Sure, he can hit hard, but so what? So can plenty of fighters. I don't think Brown is versatile or well rounded enough to even come close to the P4P list.

I'm really glad to see both the diaz brother getting up their also. People forget how young they both are Nate is only 21(22?) and Nick is not even 27 yet and they both have impressive records. They both may talk alot of shit but they can back it up for the most part. I really want to see Nick back in the UFC. Maybe at 170. Thiago Alves, Jon Fitch, Koscheck..there are plenty of good fights for him there. I want to see him fight Hayato Sakurai first tho.

Just curious how you have Mike Brown ahead of Urijah in their weight class (for obvious reasons) but Urijah is on the P4P list and Brown is not.... Also Fedor is on a planet unto himself, but the competition isnt there for his division, i would still have GSP in front of him on the P4P list, and ahead of Anderson Silva if he wins Saturday.
  9. Joey Says:

    Tue, 01/27/09 - 07:39

Can someone explain to me why Fedor is not #1 pound for pound? He hasn't technically lost a fight and just threw the hammer down on 2 ex UFC champs with relative ease. Anderson Silva is great, but I think he has lost 4 fights.
  10. Jay Smith Says:

[Tony Montana like accent] Fuck the Dias brothers, fuck em all, I bury them cockaroaches!!! I just wanted to say that,...... I really think they're both pretty good fighters, but I think they're their own worse enemy. I also don't think they can hang with any of the guys that ADW mentioned. Also, I think Frank Mir should be mentioned as far as breaking into the top ten P4P list if he beats Lesner again. P.S. My dingaling is sooooooooo hard for BJ/GSP!!!

@ asian fart "Yeah nate diaz's submissions are the shit" Dude, you got that right. Check out this highlight reel: www. youtube.com/watch?v=Ul6Pg3jmWWo (copy, paste, kill the space after www.) Skip to the 1:20 mark to see his no-hands triangle choke. One of the best submissions in MMA ever, IMO. Speaking of Diazs, Nick needs to get back in the UFC. hopefully, that EliteXC BS will get sorted out soon. I keep mentioning it in hopes that it will come true: Nick vs Nate Diaz! DANA! MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Hey Joey, I know you have probably been a fan for a short time so just letting you know - Nogieura Sylvia Arlovski Randlemen Coleman All were / have been UFC champs

on Belfort...Lindland isn't relevant at MW just because he hasn't been able to fight there much. I don't like him, but he's still very much a threat. And I think it's funny that people would happily rank Bisping at the fringes of top 10 and dismiss Belfort in the same breath, when Vitor has actually finished better opponents than Bisping has at MW. I'm a big Vitor fan, I'm hoping with some degree of resolution in his sister's case he's able to put his demons to rest and regain some of his potential. I wouldn't rank him top 10 as of yet, but he's no more than a big win away. That being said, I was impressed with the CP rankings...I've seen faaar worse by sites that pretend they're more legitimate and straight-news. rh

Why the hell is Paulo Filho ranked above the guy who gave him the most embarassing loss of his life time, Chael Sonnen.
  17. Joey Says:

    Tue, 01/27/09 - 09:05

@ Kadumel I said "just hammered" as in- recently. Has Fedor fought Coleman, Randleman, or Nogueria recently? Last time I checked, not so much.
  18. Canadian hoser Says:

Joey I think when fedor fought those guys you named was when they were good if they fought them now he would crush them all in a single night. Your statement makes no sense, I don't want to get into verbal typing fight cause you may kick my ass. My typing skills are quite as good as they were in 2005 when I was open weight class intenet blogging champ. It's been over three years since I have out typed anybody good.
  19. Canadian hoser Says:

    Tue, 01/27/09 - 09:35

what fedor does after ever fight once he wins the old fist pump alone makes him the p4p champ. He realizes in his head that the fight was easy therefore a fist pump is all that is required. Anderson silva dancing isn't as bad as the guys who go and jump on the top of the ring or cage. Almost like they are so suprised to have actually won the fight, fedor only puts both hands up on the roller coaster, pretty sure thats only so he doesn't sumbit or break it.
  20. Rault Says:

    Tue, 01/27/09 - 09:39

Almost had respect for your rankings until I saw A. Silva ahead of Fedor in P4P. What the fuck are you thinking? Can you at least give us an explanation? There is not one single reason I can think of why you would do that. Fedor just beat 2 top 5 heavyweights while Anderson beat an unranked middleweight and an unranked light heavyweight. Fedor beat both his opponents in the first round while the middleweight A. Silva fought took him to the third if I can remember correctly. Fedor has more wins over ranked opponents and hasn't lost yet while A. Silva has fewer wins over ranked opponents and has lost 4 times. I have no idea what you are thinking. That is all.

i think cage potato's ranking are the most accurate except how jake sheilds is ahead of fitch? i hate sheilds. but the light heavy weight rankings is the most accurate list of them all
  23. ben Says:

@ rh:Good points about Belfort/Bisping.  Belfort has only had two fights at MW, while Bisping has had three, which is why Bisping is more on my radar right now.  But honestly, both of them need a few more fights in that weight class before I'd think of them as top ten.@ Rault:I haven't updated the pound-for-pound list since New Year's Day...but I'm tempted to agree with you.@ walrus:Mike Brown is the #1 featherweight right now. He's actually not on the P4P list, but he's close by default.

So after reviewing these new rankings, all i seem to ask is "where the fuck have I been?" ...seriously, Matt Brown and Macheeeeeeeta . . P4P?? I feel so outta the loop now. Just to mention a few that stand out to me that should be ranked pretty high would be fighters like Overeem or Sergei Kharitonov or Melvin Manhoef. but wat do I know, im just an E-thug from L.A.
