In the wake of UFC 95, WEC 39, and UFC 96, we’ve tidied up the heavyweight, light-heavyweight, middleweight, welterweight, and featherweight top ten lists in our Power Rankings section. Some notable changes…
— Shane Carwin enters the heavyweight list at #9 after taking out his first Top 20 opponent in 69 seconds.
— Keith Jardine leaves the light-heavyweight list (temporarily, at least) after his loss to Quinton Jackson on Saturday. He may have beaten a post-peak Chuck Liddell and a pre-peak Forrest Griffin, but it’s unclear if he has what it takes to beat a high-level opponent when they’re at their best.
— Robbie Lawler and Jake Shields drop a spot due to inactivity. Not their fault, but whaddya gonna do. Luckily, their stints in Strikeforce begin soon.
— Josh Koscheck falls to #8 on the welterweight list after being upset by Paulo Thiago. Kos definitely still has the talent of a top-ten fighter — he’s just made some unfortunate choices.
— Jose Aldo ascends to #6 on the featherweight list after his fourth brutal stoppage win in the WEC.
Check ‘em out and let us know if you see things differently.
Unrelated, but important: Thanks so much for all your awesome nominations in our Best MMA Bars forum thread. We’re going to start compiling our list soon, so if you have any others to share, please let us know!

I'm happy to see that Pete Sell and Matt Brown don't show up anywhere in these rankings. I, Yves Lavigne, will keep it that way!!!

damn you rabbit punch carwin!
Tue, 03/10/09 - 06:55
poor jardin, he'll be back . he didnt do too bad against rampage. he did look a lil gased half way through the fight . i can see him making his way back in top ten, but probably never in the top five

"jardine"

IMO Rashad is a little high on the P4P rankings but the rest were pretty spot on. Who should Carwin fight next ?
Tue, 03/10/09 - 07:07
Mayhem - I say Cain V
Tue, 03/10/09 - 07:12
Has anyone tried jerking it while they stick a finger up their butt?
Tue, 03/10/09 - 07:13
@ Mayhem Rashad to high? While wearing the belt? @ Geriatric Agreed, bring the Cain..
Tue, 03/10/09 - 07:14
@ curtis sample Yeah i have and it feels amazing especially if you put maple syrup on your balls

I miss Mirko.

i dont see how jardine drops and rua stays. i would give more stock to jardine's loss to rampage, than rua's win over coleman. jardine's had more losses over the last few years than rua, only b/c rua has been so innactive. jardine has a win over a guy who dominated rua(forrest) and will soon have another once chuck takes out slowgun.plus i flat out think jardine would whip rua's ass. i 'm not the biggest jardine fan in the world, but as you can probablty tell from my post, i think rua is highly overated. other than that, these are pretty darned good rankings. :)

Most of the power rankings I can agree with. Carwin will have to go past the 1st round to ever move up in my book though. I also don't like Florian being down @ number 5, I think he should be a top 3.

@Geriatric Peon - good choice, I'd like to see that fight. @CanadianProduce - yea he has the belt but other than Forrest and Chuck who has he beat? If not for the point deduction he would have lost to Tito and his fight with Bisping was very close (could have gone either way) I would have put Rashad at maybe 7 or higher. I just think that its too early to start putting him that high up. Just like when some P4P lists had Forrest as high up after he won the belt. Lets see him defend it first.

How can Jackon rank higher than Machida lhw but then not show up in p4p? Make some sense you foos!
Tue, 03/10/09 - 10:24
Overeem and Arlovski need to change positions, turf Tim off the list, and throw Cheick on at #9 and Carwin at #10 spot.
Tue, 03/10/09 - 10:25
Why is Dan Henderson the #2 MW???? His last two performances have been mediocre and before that he had two losses. I think Okami, Marquardt, and Maia should be above him for sure.
Tue, 03/10/09 - 10:58
- Josh Barnett at #2 HW - LOL (not even top ten based on his last fight :: any top-ten would've finished that ugly dude that Barnet sat on for three rounds) - Rampage is higher than Machida on LW ranks but not on P4P ranks (Machida is) -Chieck Congo would beat Tim Sylvia or Josh Barnett comfortably -Diego Sanchez is fighting in LW now - not WW
Tue, 03/10/09 - 10:58
- Rampage is higher than Machida on LHW ranks but not on P4P ranks (Machida is)*
Tue, 03/10/09 - 11:20
Aldo is looking better every time.
Tue, 03/10/09 - 12:42
You guys really think Andre Arlovski would beat Allistair Overeem? Beating two IFL guys (with horrible ref standups) does not make you a top 5 HW.
Tue, 03/10/09 - 01:47
Why is Faber #8 P4P when you have him listed as the #2 Featherweight? I think Mike Brown earned that spot with his sleepwalk win over Garcia...he made it look beyond easy.
Tue, 03/10/09 - 01:55
@ Anonymous, Pfff, Anonymous:I haven't updated the P4P list in a while...don't think of that top ten as current.
Tue, 03/10/09 - 02:03
How can you take Jardine off the LHW top ten list because you think his win against Chuck Liddell was post-peak, but then you have Liddell listed at #6? I mean, either Chuck's past his peak and should have fallen out of the top ten along with Jardine, or you don't think that Chuck is past his peak and thus the loss to Jardine was a fluke.
Tue, 03/10/09 - 02:14
Robbie Lawler is higher then Demian Maia!?!?! Durp?
Mon, 03/16/09 - 08:35
a lose to machida (a bad one) keeps you in the top ten but a lose to Rampage (close) doesnt interesting
