It’s almost always a good thing to be the first woman to do something. That’s because usually, if a woman hasn’t done that thing yet, it means that it’s either really hard or men have been real jerks about it and kept women out like ten-year-olds with a clubhouse. Well, Brazilian Carina Damm just etched her name in the record books by becoming the first female MMA figher to test positive for steroids. That is not the clubhouse you want to be hanging out in. Not unless you love powerlifting and back acne.
Sherdog reported today that Damm tested positive for Nandrolone (that’s right, the same thing Sean Sherk tested positive for) after her April 3 victory over Sophie Bagherdai at Femme Fatale Fighting 4 in Los Angeles. This news comes at a particularly bad time for Damm, since she was recently signed to take on Debi Purcell on an Elite XC card on June 27. Purcell seemed annoyed, though not surprised by the news.
“It was obvious she was doing it [steroids], but I was just going to out-cardio and out-muscle her anyways. I’ve been lifting for my whole life, everyday for I don’t know how many years. People have accused me of doing steroids because I have muscles, which isn’t fair. But you can’t go have a normal body and two months later be huge.”
If you’re wondering whether Damm might be a victim of the faulty testing procedures that Sherk is considering suing the CSAC over…there’s something you should know. The “normal” level of Nandrolone in a person is 2 ng/mL. An athlete participating in “vigorous activity” can legally get away with 6 ng/mL. When Sherk tested positive, it was with 12 ng/mL in his system. Carina Damm tested at 37.9 ng/mL. Now that’s how you fail a steroid test, people.
Am I the only one thinking this may help Sean Sherk? A female fighter fails the test with three times the Nandrolone levels that he had, that makes you wonder what a positive test really looks like. Then again, it could just be because those Brazilians don’t do anything half-ass.

commentsIf you want to know what a real failed looks like, just check out ROYCE GRACIE's fail test last year. I believe it was something like 500-600 ng/ml.
That's throwing shit at a wall. And polygraphs don't prove anything: that's why they aren't admissible in court.
This all reminds me of the story (which is meant to illustrate something about Rabbinical law, I think) of the guy who borrowed a plate from his neighbor. He brings it back broken and says, "I never borrowed it. It was broken when I got it. It was fine when I returned it." Just like with Sherk, not all of these can be true. You can't say, "There were steroids in my piss from the supplements. But there weren't any steroids in my piss until they tainted the sample. And the sample wasn't tainted, the lab equipment was." These CANNOT all be true.
And if some girl blows 3 times the BAC as me in a drunk driving screen, does that make me less drunk? Sherk has been in the game for years - he knows how to cycle off and on to avoid popping positive. This time his body just didn't get rid of the roids as fast as it has before. He got caught and he needs to admit it.
Did he take steroids, yes, did he take them knowingly, I have no idea. Regardless, the test came back positive. He should have been suspended for 1 year. No ifs and or buts. Otherwise, any fighter who tests positive could use the lame "my supplements were tainted" excuse.
Your shemale was uncalled for.
No one disputes that's the test came up 12g. Sherk has presented a tainted product. And yes that is still a positive result. Doesn't willfulness enter into it at all for you?
See I ask about willfulness because that is the factor that separates crimes like manslaughter from aggravated murder. Our entire national justice system is based around findings of willfulness, or a lack thereof. That and serving your time. Hmm. Also the right to appeal, I mean what if an innocent man was found guilty - you know, theoretically.
Now, I prefer BJ Penn's fighting style to Sherk's, no doubt about it. I think Penn is also the more skilled athlete. I can hold those views without needing to attack a guy for buying a supplement which contained an illegal substance. And yes, he was responsible for for what was in his body, so he spent six months on the bench serving his sentence. And his fine remained, so he paid that. And he was stripped of the title. I think he's got the point.
I hope you give it some thought while you're sitting in mom's basement dreaming of poo-tossing shemales.
The only possibility is a positive test due to tainted supplements. It is still a positive result.
Before the Sherk haters and BJ Penn nuthuggers comment I would like to take this opportunity to say that I think Sherk deserves to be let off the hook a little. With the ineptness of the CSAC and the fact that this chick's levels were three times higher then Sherk's, introduces a clear level of reasonable doubt here. I'm not saying Sherk is completely innocent, but I'm going to be giving him the benefit of the doubt.
