With the announcement yesterday that BJ Penn had to pull out of UFC 132: Cruz vs. Faber, the leading candidate to fill in for injured Jon Fitch against “The Prodigy,” Carlos Condit (26-5) has now been matched up with durable South Korean fighter Dong Hyun Kim (14-0-1 1NC).
The UFC announced the pairing today.
Undefeated in UFC and his MMA career (a loss to Karo Parisyan at UFC 94 was changed to a no-contest when “The Heat” tested positive for painkillers after the bout) Kim defeated Nate Diaz in his last bout. He has also notch wins against Matt Brown, Jason Tan, TJ Grant and Amir Sadollah since signing with the UFC in 2008.
The former welterweight champion, Condit’s only loss under the Zuffa banner came via split decision in his 2009 UFC debut against Martin Kampman at UFN 18: Condit vs. Kampmann. In his three other UFC bouts “The Natural Born Killer” defeated Rory McDonald (TKO), Jake Ellenberger (Split decision) and Dan Hardy (KO).
UFC 132 will take place on July 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will feature a main event bantamweight championship bout between UFC 135-pound king Dominick Cruz and challenger Urijah Faber.
