In Case You Missed It: Alistair Overeem vs. Dzevad Poturak

If you didn’t stay up until 4 a.m. to watch some K-1 action on Saturday, then you missed the chance to see Alistair Overeem face off against yet another overmatched opponent. Dzevad Poturak turned out to have no real weapons to threaten Overeem with, and after getting dropped with a right hand early on he never got his legs back under him. Watching him sling harmless punches in the general direction of Overeem’s guard and then eat counter-punches for his trouble, you get the sense that this isn’t going to end well for him.

The good news is that Overeem managed to slaughter Poturak without injuring himself, so he plans to be back in the gym on Monday to prepare for that Strikeforce heavyweight title defense in a few weeks. Something tells me Brett Rogers might put up more of a fight.

Poturak is actually a good K-1 fighter.....he almost beat Daniel Ghita....so hes no slob or mongoloid...its just that overeem is in top tier of k-1.....which is very impressive cuz hes a MMA dude. And not the other way around....

AO does have probably one of the strongest guillotine chokes in the world. His standup is spotty bc he's so shy to throw. However that ninja does have knees of death with a great clinch. If he'd just go out and rage on dudes he'd be so much more successfull. If he rages first he'll win easy, but that's how Rogers wins, soooo I see Rogers bullying him. At least in the first minute. Then I see a clinch to knee KO from AO. IMO

I'm calling Rogers in this one. A message to Overeem... "Please stop fighting cans!" I just don't think Overeem has what it takes. I'm not going to completely discredit Alistair. Sure Overeem can beat guys like Paul Buentello (Yeah, the guy who tapped to elbows to the thigh from Cheick Congo). He had a memorable fight with James Thompson (One of Kimbos EliteXC cans). Who can forget his classic fights against Tony Sylvester, Tae Hyun Lee, Michael Knaap. What? You say you've never heard of those guys? Really? You're fucking with me, right?

Ubereem's defense will not translate well into MMA with those tiny gloves, and Brett Rogers is as big or bigger than he is. Should be interesting.

I'm still not entirely convinced on Brett Rogers.

Catching someone with a problem chin and blitzkrieging them can always be done with heavy hands.

And it appears to me that Fedor ends fights whenever he feels good and ready to.
If he wants you to last a few rounds first then its no skin off his back. You'll know when he's ready because he starts to shake his hands faster right before he hurls that final bomb.

But then I'm not sold on overeem either.

He wasn't very good at 205. And despite everyone claiming that he's come on like gangbusters as an HW he hasn't claimed any terribly significant wins as an HW either.

This is gonna be a good fight IMO.
They may not be A level, but they're huge, evenly matched and aggressive.

I know who I want to win though, so I'll have my fingers crossed.

Overeem is fucking joke. He said he likes to "challenge himself in K-1"?? Getting a bunch of mongoloids thrown his way is not what any person besides Overeem considers a challenge.
