Checking in With Chuck

From MMANews.com:

With a potential win over Rashad how do close do you think you are to getting a title shot?
Chuck Liddell: After I beat Rashad I think I deserve the next title shot.

Would you every welcome a fight between yourself and [Anderson] Silva?
Sure, it could be a good fight but I think I’m too big for him. He’s a tough fighter and I have all the respect in the world for him but I think I’d be too much for him.

I know you’ve briefly talked about it before but would yourself ever entertain the thought of moving up in weight class?
Yeah, I have talked about that a bunch of times, when I get done with what I wanna do at light-heavyweight I’ll be looking to move up in the weight class.

If you could have an open weight fight with anyone in the world who would it be?
I’d really like to get a shot at Fedor; I think I match up well with him.

The Iceman faces Rashad Evans at UFC 88 (September 6th, Atlanta) and is “hoping to be close to 100%” by the time of the fight, following a hamstring injury which he’s still recovering from. All respect to Chuck, but beating Evans shouldn’t put him next in line for a title shot, with the UFC’s 205-pound division as crowded as it is — though an additional win over Mauricio Rua at the end of the year would certainly clinch it. The thought of Chuck at heavyweight is compelling, as is a potential light-heavyweight match with Anderson Silva (who probably wouldn’t be too small to deal with Liddell, no matter what he says). And is this the first time Liddell has mentioned an interest in fighting Fedor? And when he said that, did a silent alarm go off, alerting the UFC’s lawyers that they may soon have another “situation” on their hands?

Anderson vs chuck would be a siick fight but chuck is definately to big for him. Anderson would get caught trying to rush in. his kicks wouldnt do too much considering chuck is a great kickboxer, his only option would be to take him down, but thats highly unlikly considering anderson doesnt have any good take downs, his subs have been when he has been taken down, plus chucks sprawl. Now chuck vs fedor, that nobody on the planet could call. MAKE THAT SHIT HAPPEN!
KO Chuck- July 1, 2008 at 3:30 am
"He has held and defended the light heavyweight title more than anyone else in the UFC, to say he doesn’t deserve another crack at it is simply ignorant."

Actually, he hasn't held the title longer than anybody in the UFC ever (unless you mean current UFC signees). Frank Shamrock defended it 4 times before retiring. Tito Ortiz defended it 5 times before he lost it to Randy Couture.

Can't wait to see Liddell get KOd the fuck out and go back to passing out on talk show sofas, or arguing with Kurt Angle over who would win.

Everybody wants to fight Fedor. I agree with shutupandfight it's funny that he says Anderson is too small and then says he wants Fedor who would toss him around like a ragdoll. Chuch would have one chance to beat Fedor and that would be to ko him which he hasn't done in a while. Since when does winning two of your last four qualify you for a title shot. I think Dana is gonna take care of his boy and handpick some good matches for him and he should be able to get another shot at the title but shit he needs to get a streak going before that happens. Maybe like four in a row or something. Oh and uuhh when was the last time Okami got his ass kicked.
sol- July 1, 2008 at 12:33 am
I find it funny that people are saying fighting Rashad Evans doesn't warrant a title shot, but when Okami beats Evan Tanner it does, interesting.

youre racist for thinking rampage is lazier than forrest just because rampage is black
josh- July 1, 2008 at 12:07 am
chuck would be very close to getting a title shot based on the combination of overall popularity, his previous invincibility, and a win over wandy and possibly rashad. right there he could get title shot, or at least after one more win.

ragging on chuck and calling him dumb for saying hed fight fedor is idiotic. the interviewer clearly asked him who he would fight if he could fight anyone. its not like chuck demanded it happen or anything.

and of course hes gonna think he can beat anderson. do you think he got to where he is by being scared of a guy in a lower weight class?

some of this chuck hate= ridiculous

if i was Liddell the first mutha fugga i'd wanna fight...again...is Jardine...especially after Silva made Jardine a sardine.

but i guess if he's still wanting to fight Fedor...then the Jardine loss didn't hurt his pride much.

Chuck's still a bad mutha fuker...he could still beat Jackson with the right game plan and conditioning...could possibly give A. Silva his first KO loss with the right game plan and conditioning...but beat Fedor fukin Emilianenko...i don't know about that- Fedor might just be too big and more imporatantly- powerfull for him.
BIG CHRIS- June 30, 2008 at 7:55 pm
I say if Chuck beats Rashad then put him against Machida....if Machida hasn't lost by then....and the winner gets to fight Forrest Griffin for the title.....Cause Forrest is gonna outwork that lazy hack Rampage.....

@OBI My son is a Genius isn't he.......
Ye boi.- June 30, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Fedor is not overated at all. Ever seen a fight in pride? Russian domination is not something that can be taught, Now Chuck is my boy but everone knows hes going downhill now and fast. Rashad is a beast and if he shows up to fight, he will win, hands down(unless he gases). But Chuck isnt getting younger.

"Well happy to see that the MMANews writer is making full use of his GED.

Chuck is fucking delusional. He’d having nothing more than a puncher’s chance with Silva or Fedor "

I love that this guy challenges the education level of the author and then starts a sentence with "He'd having".
Jim- June 30, 2008 at 7:37 pm
- Not the first time he's mentioned an interest in fighting Fedor. - Anyone who even remotely follows MMA should know that.

- Silva is technical, but if you think he is anywhere near being able to deal with Chuck's power, you're an idiot.

"Fuck Chuck. What an Epic Dumbass. He leaves his hands down just waiting to get Kim Coture’d."

Your a fucking moron.. Chuck is 21-5.. And went on a 7-0 run in the UFC. So yeah, his arms down is a dumb strategy..But it works.. you retard

And anyway, I think any ex champ deserves a title shot before the rest. Who else is above him? He beat Wandy, and he's about to beat an undefeated Rashad Evans..

Who deserves it more than him? Machida? He hasn't beaten anyone in the UFC yet. He's fought a bunch of cans. And yes, Sokoudjou is a can. It was his first fight in the UFC, so I consider him a can. So who else is there? ok then.
jamie vaughn- June 30, 2008 at 5:59 pm
most of you are dumb chuck would wipe the floor with anderson silva or fedor for that matter besides fedors an overrated pussy
Toner Breath- June 30, 2008 at 5:33 pm
What's with all the Chuck hating? Did he not just kick Wanderlei's ass? Did he not destroy Couture in his prime and make him retire (the first time)?

He deserves another shot at his title if he gets past Rashad. He has held and defended the light heavyweight title more than anyone else in the UFC, to say he doesn't deserve another crack at it is simply ignorant.

@ all the comments thus far, and at whoever wrote the article... grow the fuck up

"what is chuck trying to say? is he saying that his weight class won’t allow him to fight silva, or that he’s just so big in stature that silva won’t be able to take him.."

He's just noting that he walks around at a bigger weight than Silva. Silva walks around at about 215 or 218; Chuck's walking weight is AT LEAST 230 (if not more). That could potentially make a difficult fight for Silva.

And I can't blame Chuck for not wanting to fight at Heavy. Considering what's happened in that division over the past year, there's really only one money match (with Nogueira). It's not worth it for him to move up when he can get a cut of bigger gates at 205. Yes, the scene at 205 is crowded, but most of the money guys and household names are fighting at that weight...meaning he makes more money fighting at that weight even if he isn't going to get a title shot anytime soon.
b- June 30, 2008 at 5:16 pm
this is actually not the first time chuck mentioned fighting fedor

Thats Chuck's kid in the back ground?.... damn I thought that it was another Diaz twin that got left behind. Little monkey looking bastard aint he?
Blackleg- June 30, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Well happy to see that the MMANews writer is making full use of his GED.

Chuck is fucking delusional. He'd having nothing more than a puncher's chance with Silva or Fedor - and since when did Rashad-fucking-Evans become the gatekeeper for title shots.

PS: Tell your kid to sit down and stop fucking chihuahuas Chuck, that's disgusting.
Old, Bald and Irish- June 30, 2008 at 2:37 pm
@ F*ck Chuck:

"...just waiting to get Kim Coture’d."

I really, REALLY LOL'd at that!

Add that to the classic Cage Potato catch phrases like "Smells like poop and Cracker Jack" (BIG CHRIS' kid!)

Ummm...what's Chuck doin' to that lil' doggie? Or did Chuck just poop a chihuahua?

If so, the man's got more talent than I ever suspected.

Hell, if I could poop pups, I'd be opening a frickin' dog kennel!
what?- June 30, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Anderson Silva isnt ready? fuck that he would whoop his ass.
huh- June 30, 2008 at 2:17 pm
what is chuck trying to say? is he saying that his weight class won't allow him to fight silva, or that he's just so big in stature that silva won't be able to take him..
Fuck Chuck- June 30, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Fuck Chuck. What an Epic Dumbass. He leaves his hands down just waiting to get Kim Coture'd.

He wants a shot at Fedor... Well, you shouldn't have signed with the UFC. Fedor knew better. Fedor's manager said you'd have to be a complete moron to sign a UFC contract, being how one-sided they are.

It's in Chuck's best interest that Dana White keep him from reaching Fedor, because he'd be asking Kim Coture's dumbass advice on which hospital to go to.

I saw Chuck just washed up on shore this morning, along with a boot, an aluminum can, Matt Hughes, and Ken Shamrock...
