Chuck Liddell Does Learn, Just Very Slowly

Chuck Liddell gif” />

If you thought there was something familiar about the way Chuck Liddell got himself knocked out against Rashad Evans, you’re right. It’s almost the exact same scenario that precipitated his loss to Rampage Jackson: Liddell throws an uppercut while not troubling himself to defend his chin, Liddell eats a hard right counter, Liddell goes down and Dana White gets sad. It’s almost enough to make you wonder if fighting with your hands nowhere near your face isn’t such a good idea. You know, because there’s always that slim possibility that your opponent might also decide to throw some punches.

Fortunately, Liddell is starting to ask himself the hard questions:

“I guess that’s a bad habit,” Liddell said. “I see that shot and I land it a lot, but I guess I leave myself open when I throw it. I need to get back in there and stop doing it. It’s something to work on.”

Well, that only took two knockout losses for him to realize. At this rate he’ll be able to figure out where he went wrong against Keith Jardine and avenge that loss some time in early 2010. Will he still be in the game by then? Hard to say. Liddell said he would “take a little time” after this loss, but added, “I’ve always said that when I retire, I’ll decide in the training room and not after a fight.”

Maybe that’s why he intends to stay out of the training room for a while.

"Evans is a more complete fighter" No question! In all facets he has a better game. Granted it would have been a more entertaining fight if Chuck was five years younger yet still would have not changed the outcome in my opinion. Rashad's is simply more versitle and the Jackson training camp of Marquet and Jardine only polishes up his skills. Still, as gratified as I was for him to win, I felt empathy for Chuck who I truely though died after being knocked out. For his sake I hope he does better down the road and utilizes his guard.

"haha, cracka ass cracka got dropped. Stupid white people are losing everything now". Etc,etc, etc…..LOL you ignorant fool! Are you truly the stupidest person on this blog or are you just being facetious. I hope for the sack of humanity it was the first not the latter. Racial slurs/stereotypes we people of color should know how counterproductive this is. Why engage in the same mentality? Not only do you have little class and intelligence you seem to be borderline retarded if not more.

that's what i hate about guys with names like mmajunkie...they usually don't know a damn thing about mma or the fighters. chuck looked strong? i guess staring at evans with his hands around his hips the whole first round was pretty impressive. i can't believe evans made it to the second round.

MMA Junkie get Chucks balls out of your mouth. Chuck was always overrated. He had a slugish wide open style that worked with average mma strikers and wrestlers who charged at him. Like I said a million times any one with "real" boxing skills would knock chuck out. Not that wild, I hope something lands anywhere Wanderlei silva striking but real boxing. Foot work, head movement, elusiveness, and nice punches. Like Evans displayed. He was catching Chuck with the left hook before he finally dropped him I don't know what you saw that looked like Chuck had better stand up. Keith Jardine didn't knock him ou,t but beat him with intelligent calculated strikes, not that run in throwing anything style that Chuck knows how to counter. He lost to a better fighter get over it.

That's what I hate about this site - half of the postings are from ignorant idiots that have no life.

Chuck looked strong and was relaxed the entire fight. Rashad was dancing around nervously and he caught Chuck. I believe that Chuck is still a stonger fighter with better standup - Rashad just caught him and that happens.

damn, that was a f***ing monster punch. evans probably couldn't have thrown a stronger blow. look at his stance and where the shot starts from. pure power. ice(d)man is lucky his head is still attached.

Waaaaaaa Losers! sounds like he's in the closet...

In all honesty, Evans is a more complete fighter... I wasn't at all surprised by the outcome. The only thing that surprises me about the whole thing is that it lasted 2 rounds (really only because Evans was being cautious which is smart).

mmmiles how does a "landed" uppercut to the armpit (1 foot away from the target, the chin) supposed to do anything?
brian- September 8, 2008 at 5:47 am
Yep lidell got away from his game which is being the counter puncher. Not to mention the guy is 38 years old. Eventually you lose it. Evans is a good fighter too.

Come on, It's like a gay lovefest or fist, oh look, now their "grappling" you never saw Chuck Norris grappling it's cause he's NOT GAY............. I would like to see a true stand up fight not alot of gayco roman crap!

The joke was a little dark, I know....

Evans is still on deathwatch though, just in case. Liddell connected on that exchange and doctors are still working out how serious it was.
mr.whitefolks- September 7, 2008 at 4:47 pm
mmmiles is right.

Chucky is a master of the delayed stun punch. 2 hours after evens collapsed and died.
and by died I mean showered, ate and fell asleep.
and by right i mean retarded.
mmmiles- September 7, 2008 at 3:30 pm
To be fair though, Evans was running on pure adrenaline after the fight. That glancing blow Chuck gave caused Evans to collapse and die 2 hours after the event. I'm surprised CP isn't reporting this.

damn. it was really hard seeing liddell get hit so hard.
at the end of the first round i was beginning to worry that he was getting too anxious and thinking that it might backfire. i'm guessing he was under a lot of pressure to win with a bang in order to ensure his shot at the belt against griffin.
but when he hit the floor, i was shocked. just in disbelief.
i just hope he can learn from this experience and come back harder, and smarter.
