Confirmed: Ben Henderson to Challenge Frankie Edgar for Lightweight Title at UFC Japan

Leading up to last night’s historic UFC on Fox broadcast, there were rumors that the winner of Benson Henderson vs. Clay Guida would be fighting Frankie Edgar in Japan for the UFC lightweight title. As you know, Ben Henderson went on to defeat Clay Guida by unanimous decision in a Fight of the Night winning performance. Now, it has been confirmed that Ben Henderson vs. Frankie Edgar will be the main event of the UFC’s return to Japan.

Since losing to Anthony Pettis back at WEC 53, Ben Henderson has gone 3-0 in the UFC. Even though all three victories have come by unanimous decision, Henderson has proven that he is incapable of being involved in a boring fight. Likewise, Frankie Edgar is coming off of a come from behind fourth round TKO over Gray Maynard at UFC 136 in October.   

UFC Japan is set to take place on February 26, 2012. In order to accommodate the fact that no one in North America wants to wake up at 9 AM for a PPV card, the show is set to start at 10 AM in Japan. Waking up before noon on a weekend? That’s a level of dedication that our Gaijin asses just can’t understand.

ALL monies on Henderson. Edgar will have leave the Jersey Shore, and return home a small man with no belt. We might even get a chance to see Edgar vs Maynard for the 4th or 5th time.

I think Frankie wins it and makes it look easy. Controls the distance, uses his footwork, and picks Henderson apart standing. Just like Pettis, less flashy though.

went to the fights they were pretty good mostly.the undercard was ok decisions like usual but pretty good.bruce leroy pretty impressed i hate the guy i think he sucks but looked really good.swanson was on his way but got caught bein lazy.yamamoto sucks a big nut.frickin guida one of my faves just got overpowered even though i saw ben turning purple for a sec but he got out of it.pettis overpowered him and is a better fighter guida overpowered pettis like a baby.and i knew guida was in trouble when ben beat the shit out of miller omg.who woulda thought.as for dos me and my homie were talkin about him since he knocked out werdum.my buddy said he will be the champ one day i didnt think so till about his 3rd fight then it was on.nobodys takin that belt for a while.and the fuckin disrespectful mexican fans can eat a dick.nothin like cheerin for their enemy surrounded by them in ur own city and gettin that sweet taste of them bein sore loser bitches.lol it was amazing

I think betting against Frankie Edgar is just risky business and I think Frankie has proven himself a very game champion. Benson Henderson seems like a different kind of animal in my book, he reminds me of a few other guys who were hungry once. Bendo doesn't fuck around he did that once against Showtime I wouldn't expect him or his god to be slacking off for this UFC title shot.

May sound crazy, but I don't think Edgar is going to be able to deal with Benson's speed. I think Benson will control the ring and catch up to Frankie where guys like Gray(not including first rounds of fights 2 and 3) and BJ couldn't.
It was nice to see Clay Guida get Clay Guida'd in the grappling department last night.

This will be a fantastic fight! I was hoping Ben would win because I wanted to see Edgar tested against another huge LW, but one who fights smart and has a gas tank equal to Edgar's. This is a tough fight to call.
