Cote Anticipates Facial Rearrangement

(Props: MMA Rated via Bloody Elbow)

I only have one thought looking at this photo from yesterday’s UFC 90 press conference in Chicago: Anderson, you’re wearing a pink-and-white polo shirt — would it kill you to pop that collar?

Even in his fey-frat-boy gear, the Spider still cuts quite an imposing figure, and Patrick Cote knows that no matter how the fight ends, he’ll be looking pretty messed up afterwards. He makes peace with that idea in the AOL Fanhouse video below, and also states that he wants to fight Silva at his healthiest. Which works out well, because Anderson Silva doesn’t get sick — sick gets Anderson Silva.

That, my friends, is the scariest man you will ever see in a pink shirt.

Never seen Silva that mad before? I'd hate to be the guy at 40 seconds in this video.

Touche @ Dirty, that was exactly what I was thinking! Dude definitely lives in a van down by the river.

For all the crap Irvin talked about "weight classes existing for a reason", and "I'll be the bigger stronger man in the cage" Silva looked just as big.

Good luck Cote, I always root for an underdog when it is this much of a mismatch, but didn't everybody mention heavy hands and a great chin when talkin about Irvin and Henderson?

There is plenty worse, Senior Ace.

Cock chest tats anyone?
Senior Ace- August 19, 2008 at 11:15 am
Nothing worse than getting your ass kicked by a man in a pink shirt.

he couldnt even knock out leban or almedia...he definately has a matt serra's chance to beat silva tho...this is MMA PEOPLE!

whoaaaaa, adw you have this shit all messed are saying that the worst possible strategy fighting Anderson Silva is trying to stand and trade with him, but then you go on to state that even people who try and take him down will eventually fail because of his black blet in BJJ. Based on your intepretation their is absolutely no way any fighter will beat Anderson Silva because quite frankly he is the best all around fighter at 185 pounds...doesn't it make more sense then that one fighter puts all his eggs in one basket and whole heartedly admits that the only way he is going to beat Silva is through his devastating one punch power, whether it be luck or not. At least Cote isn't kidding himself saying that he is a better fighter then Silva, he is saying that he can knock him out if he hits him.

Simlarly, to say that everyone Cote has fought is not at the same level as Silva is strange because prior to the Cote - Almeida fight everyone was saying that Almedia would be the chance at a challenge for Silva.

Cote has as good a chance as anyone does at defeating Anderson silva, no one else at 185 pounds has demonstrated the ability to absorb the punishment delivered from Silva in order to return his own brand of punishment. Until someone with good standup and a good ground game comes along Anderson will be at the top of the 185 pound division, it is silly right now to insult his challengers because for the most part he is just far more well rounded then all of them.

@Marcel: I am glad that you are so optimistic and into the whole "be the ball" positive thinking thing, but let's get serious here. Patrick Cote is one dimensional striker. He has heavy hands but is not very technical and his ground skills are not even considered to be dangerous. The only thing that he is good at is throwing punches and standing toe-to-toe. Now lets remember that he will be throwing punches and standing toe-to-to with Anderson Silva.

That is the WORST possible strategy. He should be saying that he will try to close the distance and take him down or something, which also is not a good idea because of Silva BLACK BELT in BJJ. Going into a fight thinking "I'm going to knock out Anderson Silva!" is just not smart. if Cote was an unorthodox fighter and has some kind of crazy punches or kicks than maybe he would stand a chance. But he fights in a traditional way. All of the people that you listed that Cote has fought aren't anywhere near the same level as Silva

Cote has a Matt Serra's chance of winning. It could happen..but not likely. Anderson has a good chin too.

Im sure this is gunna be a cakewalk for Silva but just int he back of my mind it seems eerily similar to the whole GSP and Serra bout. Just throwing it out there.

I'm going to fly the canadian flag in my front yard if Cote wins, because it's high time that show boating heavyweight get his ass kicked out of the middleweight division.
airipsus- August 19, 2008 at 12:23 am
im going to laugh so hard if cote wins.

@ Sharper

"He lost to Ortiz… put me in the ring with fedor and the fact that i fought him means nothing when i lose…"

See that's where you're wrong. Fighters learn a lot when they lose. It would also mean that you've got a great deal of mental toughness to get in the ring with an ass-whooping machine like Fedor, considering you are but a wussy.

Not too sharp are ya, there sharper?
Ol' Dirty Breton- August 18, 2008 at 10:21 pm
I didn't know Chris Farley did interviews for AOL Fanhouse...
Me- August 18, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Yeah, the other funny thing is that some are saying, "He ain't scared, homey!" but so did some guy named Irvin.

"Weight classes exist for a reason" he said. Then he found out that they don't weigh fists.
Sharper- August 18, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Its funny that people reference the fact that he fought against Tito. "He is good to go because he has fought guys like Ortiz before!!!! woo!!!".

He lost to Ortiz... put me in the ring with fedor and the fact that i fought him means nothing when i lose...
Silva is scary- August 18, 2008 at 9:27 pm
I've never seen Anderson as pissed looking as that before, If i was Cote i would be shitting myself. Fair play though, Kids got confidence...and hopefully a good doctor.
Marcel- August 18, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Hey, Cote could surprise the world ,you never know! I'll be cheering for my fellow Canadian that's for sure... At least he knows what to expect, with the whole facial rearrangement and everything... Cote is a tough mofo and not easily scared either... Remember a really young Predator stepping into the Octagon for the first time against a then VERY popular Tito Ortiz a few years back? He's fought guys who were bigger and taller like Kendal Grove, and he's fought dudes with crazy punching power like Drew McFedries...Come to think of it, he won his last fight over a BJJ black belt named Ricardo Almeida! Put all of those together and you've got Anderson!! Good luck Cote, you're gonna need it, but I believe you can do it!!!
Geriatric Peon- August 18, 2008 at 8:23 pm
I will give Cote one thing, I though Mcfedries was going to knock his ass out and it ended up being Drew who was asleep. That being said, I say Silva wins by knee through Cote's soul.
Markdog- August 18, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Rock-a-bye his ass to sleep!
sirch6002- August 18, 2008 at 8:18 pm

i'll take that bet. how much you willing to lose?
Anonymous- August 18, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Cote bought the hype, this fight's already over. I like Cote, and I want him to win this. But the more cowardly he sounds and appears before Silva the more I feel it's a sure win for the incredible shrinking ethiopian brazilian Chris Kattan look alike bitch ass nigga.
Agonistes- August 18, 2008 at 8:03 pm
say what you will about cote, but you cannot deny that the man has some serious big brass ones.
come fight time, my money is on the predator. quebec all the way.
Me- August 18, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Anderson Silva once kicked a horse in the chin. Its decendants are known today as Giraffes.

When Bruce Banner gets mad, he turns into the Hulk. When the Hulk gets mad, he turns into Anderson Silva.

Most people fear the Reaper. Anderson Silva considers him "a promising Rookie".

and finally...

We live in an expanding universe. All of it is trying to get away from Anderson Silva.

There I've done my good deed for the day.
