21 Humans Who Make Being Human Look Really, Really Hard

Couture, Nogueira, Rosholt, & Marquardt Pocket Bonuses, Dana White Promises More Shows in Pacific Northwest

(‘Wait, what happened to that dude Frank Mir beat up?’/Photo courtesy SI.com)

Dana White referred to each of his picks for the end-of-the-night bonuses at UFC 102 as “no-brainers.”  The UFC handed some extra cash for Fight of the Night to Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for their main event scrap, Jake Rosholt for his submission/choke-out of Chris Leben, and Nate Marquardt for his one-punch KO of Demian Maia.  The bonuses this time around were worth $60,000, severely disappointing Nogueira, who, after UFC 100, was under the impression that these bad boys would be worth a cool $102,000.  Looks like that giant marble statue of a Minotaur that he was planning on putting in his front yard is going to have to wait until his investments mature.

The UFC reported 16,088 fans for a live take of $1.92 million.  Though ticket sales weren’t as strong as the UFC might have liked, Dana White said in the post-fight press conference that they’d come back to the Pacific Northwest soon, probably to Seattle next and eventually back to Portland.  Next time around, maybe they’ll keep ticket prices more in line with what people here are willing to pay, or else load up the card with some fights that might entice more out-of-towners.

I watched this fight with some friends who are new to MMA. I can't count how many times I had to answer "what is with the scar on that guys back" in regards to Nogueira. It was like explaining what icing the puck is in hockey.

UFC Fan judging by all of your comments you don't get it. Its about respect and sportsmanship in MMA no matter what the hell is going on. If all fighters responded and acted like you describe then MMA will remain in the dark age of human cock fighting and never get the respect it deserves. Kids (like you) will talk trash. The real competitors will ignore them and let their win send a message.

Maia is garbage. He would get destroyed by Silva if they ever fought. And Marquardt will get destroyed too by Anderson again.

-Sneaky Pete: Dont be a little girl and complain about semi-late hits. No one cares.

Sneaky Pete you make wrong assumptions about hendo.
Just cause he late hit pissping you call that dirty?
Dude, pisspenis had been talking waaaaaay to much shit, and he earned that late punch. that wasn't dirty, it was a statement to all fighters to NOT make it personal like a dickhead from England, but act like you belong, act like a pro.....as much I hate Captain dickhead Couture at least he acts professional now.
Nate had no reason whatsoever to exact any kind of vendetta on maia cause there was no "heat" between em.
Nate is no saint, don't make him out to be, it's bad enough everyone will jump on the " hes so badass and unbeatable" wagon just cause of a fluke mistake. Maybe Marquardt didn't hit Maia because deep down he knows that he got lucky and if he pisses Maia off he might get a beatdown later for it.

Hague was KO'd by a pushing jab. Impressive for the time it happened at, but not too impressive otherwise.
Peppermint Nightmare- August 30, 2009 at 7:16 am
Duffee breaks the record for fastest KO in UFC history and Marquardt gets KO of the Night? Granted it wasn't a one punch KO, but still, there's been a thousand one punch KO's in UFC's history, but only one 7 second KO.

Maia looked terrible. I've never seen more telegraphed kicks. Back to BJJ competitions. I can't believe people thought he would give Silva a hard time with his stellar BJJ.

The days of one-dimensional fighters is over. Having only one tool and everyone knowing about it is not a recipe for success.

And fuck the fuckin Diaz brothers Fuck em all- August 30, 2009 at 6:01 am

Hendo Vs Silva - Pride 33

Maybe I am comparing apples to oranges, but Hendo didn't get any criticism for how he ended that fight? And if you watch it, he does pretty much the exact same thing to Silva as he did to Bisping.

That being said, the comments after the fight at UFC 100 were completely unprofessional, and unnecessary.
Sneaky Pete- August 30, 2009 at 2:02 am
I'm extremely impressed with Nate Marquart's sportsmanship and restraint. Holding back on that punch when Maia was obviously out took guts and I think a lot of fighters, Hendo included could stand to learn something from him.

Maybe the video blog wasn't such a good idea.
