Cung Le Vacates Title; Jake Shields vs. Jason Miller for Strikeforce Middleweight Belt

Strikeforce’s "Fedor vs. Rogers" card on 11/7 has locked down a co-headliner. According to MMA Weekly, Jake Shields and Jason "Mayhem" Miller will fight for the organization’s undisputed middleweight title — not one of those weak-ass "interim" belts. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker explains the situation:

“I had a conversation with Cung and he has a lot of respect for Jake and Jason, and he’s got another movie coming up, so he’s asked me if he could step down, which we’re going to honor his request. By no means does that mean he’s going to be retired, but he’s going to be unavailable for the next two months…With Cung, every six weeks we’ll be checking back with him. Now that he’s not going to be our title holder, we’ll put him in some big super fights and continue his MMA career, but not have the pressure of defending his belt when he has movie opportunities.”

Mayhem confirmed his bout with Shields via Twitter, writing "Ok bitches who said I was ducking- I duck NO ONE. Fighting Sheilds [sic] on November 7th. Official BOOM."

Scott Coker told MMA Fanhouse that Gegard Mousasi and Cris Cyborg will also be on the supporting card of "Fedor vs. Rogers," and that the venue will be announced next week. Early signs are pointing to Chicago’s Sears Centre, as Strikeforce is reportedly in talks with Illinois’s athletic commission to sanction the event.

If you’re curious, Cung Le will be appearing in the sci-fi/horror pic Pandorum alongside Dennis Quaid, Ben Foster, and Never Back Down‘s Cam Gigandet; the flick opens next Friday.

why are 2 men in their underwear playing swing the hammer?
I can totally see the gay nazi-ism in this.

I could do my best to try and caption this one, but I'm sure Mayhem's logical breakdown would be way funnier than any jokes we could think of

with aleks out of school with the chicken pox, mayhem steps up and uses the ROFLcopter method of getting the lunch money back from a bully.

I think they should get Arona on this card and Jacare
pull from m1 maybe Dmitriy Samoilov or Giva Santana for jacare
lucio Linhares for Arona
A diaz fight would be cool two but i wanna see an arona set up for mousassi and a Jacare setup for shields or mayhem.

Cung Le is a fucking joke.
KidDinomite- September 18, 2009 at 10:11 am
They could have Mousassi fight Fabricio Verdum if one of them decided to go up or down in weight class. They also need an opponent for Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza if they have him on the card which would be awesome.

"Mayhem teaches how to shake the clothing off a roofied opponent and not look gay."

Seriously, Choke a B!

How is this not a caption contest? This picture has all types of comedy gold all over it!

"Right after Dana White said he didn't have a problem with homosexuals, Mayhem, being the wacky guy he is, felt it was now ok to show the world what Gay MMA is all about."
J-Dog- September 18, 2009 at 9:14 am
Wow this is shaping up to be a great card, and for free on regular TV! Someone pinch me!

Well I live 20 mins from the Sears Center; Thats pretty good news. Fedor live.
Choke A Bitch- September 18, 2009 at 8:00 am
Where's the caption contest when you need one!?!

I think Richard has the only good idea for Mousasi and now that Filho is in Dream they have a partnership with Strikeforce so maybe it could happen, plus they fucking hate each other so thats nice too. Mayhem is gonna get submitted like a bitch, I know his sub defense is awesome but Jake is gonna catch him.

Mousasi vs. Paulo Filho. The rivalry is there, and it's a halfway-legitimate matchup.
clutchy hopkins- September 18, 2009 at 7:17 am
but real talk, they should get aron to fight mousasi. that would be a bomb card which is already lookin great
clutchy hopkins- September 18, 2009 at 7:12 am
mousasi v.s. cris cyborg, thats gonna be a close one
Jugger- September 18, 2009 at 7:03 am
Well, I guess he could go back down to 185 and not defend his LHW belt. Maybe he could fight Souza again.
Jugger- September 18, 2009 at 7:00 am
hjdev poses a great question. Babalu was really the only notable 205'er not with the UFC. I'm wracking my brain thinking of a decent LHW that is free agent at the moment and can't think of anybody. Ricardo Arona?

I got nothin'. No doubt Gegard's gonna have to fight a can like Cyborg Santos, Randleman, or Southworth.

More annoying than... Hitler?
nsiegel5- September 18, 2009 at 6:25 am
Miller is one of the most annoying humans in the world. I would enjoy watching him get choked out.
hjdevnull- September 18, 2009 at 6:21 am
Biggest question: Who in the world is going to fight Mousassi?
CZ- September 18, 2009 at 6:10 am
Looks like a sick card. Until everyone on it gets injured again. And it ends up being Fedor Vs Tank Abbot. Mousassi Vs Seth Petruzelli, and Jake Shields vs Tiki
