Dan Henderson vs. Babalu and Jason “Mayhem” Miller vs. Nick Diaz Strikeforce Match-Ups a Possibility for October CBS Show

Match-ups between four Strikeforce stand-out fighters are being discussed for a potential October CBS-broadcasted event according to various industry sources.

MMAFighting reports that although he is noncommital whether one of the bouts — a light heavyweight tilt between Dan Henderson and Renato "Bablu" Sobral will happen on the card,  if indeed at all, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker wouldn’t rule out the possibility that the fight could take place on the rumored October CBS show.

According to Henderson’s manager Aaron Crecy, his client has been told to be ready for a fall bout and said that Sobral is an opponent they would accept, he hasn’t been named as a possible opponent by Strikeforce yet.

"We don’t have a date," he said. "I’ve heard October or November, but I don’t know that anyone knows for sure just yet. I don’t think he cares [who his opponent is]," he said. "I think the one talking about that fight is Babalu. Dan hasn’t said much about it, but Dan doesn’t usually care one way or the other. He’s more focused on locking up a date. As far as who he’s facing? He doesn’t care.""

Sobral’s manager, Richard Wilner says they haven’t been offered Henderson as an opponent, but mentioned that that’s a fight they would be interested in at any weight.

"We want the [Henderson] fight. We think it makes sense for both fighters, and objectively speaking, we think it’s a pretty marketable fight. We haven’t been offered the fight but we’re pushing it and hoping for it, and Dan at least in the media, has seemed agreeable to it," said Wilner. ""[Babalu would] love to fight at 195, 205 or even at heavyweight," Wilner said. "He’s not opposed to going up, but going down further to 185 is tough unless it was something really major. He walks around at 218 or 220, so 185 is a big cut for him. It would have to be a big name fight. Babalu is a fine diner and his wife is one hell of a cook."

Also being discussed for the card is a grudge match between two fighters involved in the the Strikeforce Nashville brawl in April: Jason "Mayhem" Miller and Nick Diaz. Miller spoke about the possibility on Joe Rogan’s above video Podcast (around the 5:50 mark), saying that although nothing is official , he has spoken to Strikeforce about the possibility of facing Diaz in October when his suspension for the CBS-televised incident is over.

Babalu vs Hendo would be a great fight. Make it happen.

So basically this says strikeforce is done banking in sf vs dream, and lost out on hoping hendo beating sheilds , fedor is a side show now with m-1 oblivious to their loss of power, so now we get grudge fights from nashville.

Anyone still think mayhem wasn't sent into that cage?
Dick_Gozenya- July 22, 2010 at 6:26 am
Maybe it's because TBA's a hermaphrodite. I've seen him/ her compete in the Men's and Women's divisions. Ultimate pound-for-pound titlist in all weight classes for all belts. TBA FTW!

Rogan kept calling the Strikeforce cage "the Octagon". FAIL!!!! I believe the UFC has that term trademarked. He should know better than that.

I also felt that his stance on the SF post-fight melee could be summed up pretty much the way Gus Johnson said it: "this kind of thing happens in MMA". He didn't use those words, but he was all like "if you have too many dogs in the yard then things will happen". I like Rogan but I think that whole video had a lot of fail in it.

Would you guys please give this TBA shit a rest already it's gettig old...

I mean, have you ever even seen the guy win a fight?? I always see his name on the cards, but never see his name in the win column. No fight of the night bonuses, submission, or ko bonuses.. no ones talking about him the day after the event. Just getting on every card doesn't put you in title contention people. TBA is so overrated.

Mayhem v. Diaz..... That's putting an awful lot of crazy in the cage at one time. I'd like to see this!

Mother of god, mayhem vs diaz would be incredible. i would be in favour* of bending the rules to allow them take bong hits in between rounds.

*yeah thats how i spell favour, wanna fight about it?

It's Strikeforce, any fuckin weight they want. Heavyweight anybody?

Coker you jowly racist muthafucka stop oppressing TBA! Just because we have to get a booster shot to prevent him at work doesn't mean you can keep snubbing him!

So will Mayhem vs Diaz be at 170 or 185? Cause I haven't seen Mayhem at 170 for a while...

Strikeforce needs to stop sandbagging TBA. Just because a fighter doesn't speak English in interviews doesn't mean you can deny them the shot that they earned. Coker is such a racist. You can tell by the jowls.

Video was entertaining. Mayhem at least lives up to his nickname.
Dick_Gozenya- July 21, 2010 at 8:08 pm
Good proposed fights, although I'm still waiting to see when TBA gets a title shot. I mean WTF, the guy fights on pretty much every main card and he gets no respectpa. He should put Scott Cockhair in a guillotine choke-hold.

What I don't see is Strokefarts being able to maintain this shit for more than another year or so because pretty soon all their guys are going to be rubber matching each other. Except for their circus side-show prospects that are for "display purposes only", who they will keep feeding KOTC cast-offs for marketing purposes. The way they treat their female fighters they'll be lucky to have a female division in another year.

mayhem vs. diaz

yes please
shammy4life- July 21, 2010 at 6:30 pm
Wasn't Babalu all serious about dropping to 185 so he didn't have to fight his best friend Mo? Now this guys saying he can't do it and he would even fight at HW. I think all this Stupid shit that goes through Cokers mind and somehow finds it's way to a fucking microphone is starting to rub off on his fighters. Seriosly though if your best match making strategy is having people jump all over the fucking place weight class wise is not a good sign of things to come. But it could be good for another Fedor scenario with built in bullshit stiry line.

I'd love to see Mayhem vs. Diaz. I hope Mayhem kicks Nick's teeth in for jumping him like some ghetto piece of trash off the street would.
