Dan Simmler Speaks From Beyond the Grave

Apparently, Ultimate Fighter 7 knockout victim Dan Simmler regularly posts under the name “Macaco_Louco” on‘s MMA forum. Simmler typed up his reaction to last night’s TUF episode directly after it aired, and posted it on this thread:

So that wasnt as bad as I thought, I honestly didnt remember much. I found it kind of funny actually that I had no idea where I was.

I dont remember the flying whatever that was, I think triangle, and I dont remember anything else pretty much either.

The fiirst thing I remember was at the hostpital. So, I have a deviated septum in my nose, cant breath good at all with out a breath right strip, I had one on and right before my fight, I was told I couldnt wear it. I wasnt given a good reason, just that I couldnt, so as a result, I was breathing through my mouth the whole time, that just made things worse when I got hit. My mouth was wide open and I broke my jaw in three places. two on the left, one on the right. It was very painful to say the least.

One week after I got home to the day I decided I was going to train “Light” with a student, and I took his back and he pushed off and his head smashed me under the jaw with the back of his head, rebreaking the jaw. The hostpital is literally across the street from the school and I was kept over night and had surgery the next day. They put two small plates, 4 screws and wires back to keep it shut. For a little over 7 weeks I had nothing but shakes and tomato soup. It was horrible. I lost about 20 lbs and now I am waiting to get the ok to spar and get back to the grind. Ill be back and do better.

I am sorry that I couldnt have done better, I was happy to get it over with and see what I did and what mistakes I made and where I can improve. Thanks for the support…

The UFC did pick up the tab for the injuries, they didnt have too but they did and I was greatful for that.

As for the punch, the original broke the left side of my jaw , the next to broke in two spots on the other side. The jaw broke on both sides at the wisdom teeth and on hte right side by the hinge. Sucked but it happens. Thanks for the good words.

The saddest part? Before the knockout, Dan could spell perfectly.

Anyway, to prove that Simmler isn’t just some pussy-ass poser, here’s a video of him actually pulling off the flying-triangle that he tried to finish Matthew Riddle with last night:

If you pussys can't hadle seeing that then you need to start watching figure skating or something. I am a fighter and that is how the game works just like football you don't stop takleing a guy until he is down or until the ref stops it. I have met and hung out with matt riddle personaly, he is an outstanding and awsome guy. You shouldn't come down on him just because he is doing what he is suppose to do.

Dan won his fight tonight over a pretty tough opponent (5-1 as a pro). He sub'd a BJJ black belt from MA after a pretty nasty up-kick!

Hell all I know is that TV can twist and turn, making an individual good and bad.

Riddle ---- connected his throw, I watched over and over and tried my best to say that his punch landed where he wanted it to. His head turned to the point that he could tell if Dan's toenails were trimmed or not. It seemed almost a desparation shot, but hell that pitcher on the Red Sox can also hit his target... you know that Japanese closure they have.

I was watching that fight over and over. It seemed that Dan was holding the upper hand for a good portion of the time. He seemed steady with the exception, when he tried some kind of "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Move", the .... what I would like to call the "Flying Triangle of Pain" I have watched a few of Dan's clip and it seems to be a wonderful reliant closure for him.

Looks like someone got up on the wrong side of the crib today. Ive tried out twice. That's it. I tried out for season 3 and was a alternate, however, I had so desire to be on the show then or fight in the UFC. I went to support 3 of my teammates and after the 5th round of cuts ahd been made I found myself interviewing for the show when all my friends had been cut.

To say anything bad about my BJJ is just silly. At my weight and and belt there are maybe 5-10 kids at best in the country that can beat me. Very few brown belts can hang with me and if they can, they are at the top of the food chain (Kron, Moriarty, Chase, Juberta, Cameron,...) I can assure you its a significantly shorter list than yours. The reason no "Real" fighters are making a big deal of it is cause it happens to everyone. It's part of the game, it's like being thrown out at 2nd in baseball. Just part of the sport. You are one of the couch potato MMA jock riders that you preech about. What have you done that is so grat you can bash other fighters you clearly know nothing about.GET A LIFE.

As for the comment about Riddle, I wish him the best. He is a arrogant kid, that comes with hard work and confidence behind hard training I feel, he is a nice kid though, he is young and I am sure will do alot in the sport, funny as hell I thought, but he had the lucky day that fight not me. It happens, you pick up, train harder and move on. The difference between someone who is good and someone who becomes a champion is the champion can look at a negative and take the positive from it to grow and become better, the other guy complains and makes excuses. Excuses are for losers.

I'm not sure that a toddler can strike better than a grown man. One thing I am sure of is a toddler can write a sentence better than you. Go back to second grade and learn how to actually write a sentence that people can read. If people could read your moronic writing, maybe they would actually understand what the fuck you're saying.

Hey Dan i am matt riddles cousin and i would like to say that matt has personally said that he was concerned with how you were and that they didnt edit to show that he was concerned he said that he went to go see how how you were and the doctors wouldnt let him get near cuz of your condition. Also i would like to say by no means did he mean to come off arrogant as though it may have seemed that way his personality is smiling and being like that because thats his way of joking. He said he has nothing other than respect for you and has said that it was his first fight in the octagon also his forst knockout wouldnt you guys be a little excited to i think people should back off a little and try to seem him as a young talented guy who wants to make it not as a arrogant not caring guy who had them edit the show to make him look like a jerk. He has said that he felt bad that it didnt look like he cared about your condition at all it was just his first major fight and he was goin nutz. I apologize if it came off the wrong way he said your a nice guy and he means no disrespect if he talks about it he was just so excited.
john- April 14, 2008 at 2:08 am
maybe all you dick riders and armchair quarterbacks should stop crying bout whiny pussy ass dan simmler gettin his ass destroyed in the octagon if nobody in the ufc who are the real people that matter didnt complain who cares you never let a guy and misty you should shut the hell up because dan is a pussy grappler toddlers can strike better than dan simmler. And if riddle is that much of a bitch y did he almost kill ur boy simmler its like his ninth time tryin out tell him to give up already.

Simmler, well I got to say one thing it definitely was an exciting fight the first round. I was rooting for you. I know you have nothing against Riddle, but from I saw on the show he comes off as cold, and arrogant. You seem to have this likeable personality, and look like you are from 300 lol. (Rampage said)

I thought it was pretty even first round, and that it could've went either way. It's just too bad you got caught. I'm glad that eventually things are turning around and that it was a fixable (albeit a slow one) problem.

Side note: Oh and do you know if Jeremiah Riggs had lost teeth before the fight or during his fight?
Swany- April 13, 2008 at 2:20 am
Gomi kept trying to get the ref to step in against Diaz. The ref did not and Gomi got submitted. That is why you just go and finish it!
Jayemge- April 12, 2008 at 12:29 am
I'm sorry to hear about what Dan had to go through. I hope he is doing better now.
Suchy- April 11, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Simmler is an excellent grappler and will come back stronger than ever. He had his hands somewhat dropped and IMO made somewhat of a rookie mistake in fighting a souhtpaw in circling the wrong direction and got caught. It happens. You will def. see this kid in the cage again.

Simmler you def have my respect before and after this fight. Maybe if I get my act together I'll see you at your gym and start training again.. haha

Good luck in the future

Jay- April 11, 2008 at 2:27 am
Dude got fucked up, but he wasn't doing as badly as people keep yapping about. I thought he was pretty good, and I actually thought he was going to pull it out. Unfortunately he got caught - it happens.
Simmler- April 11, 2008 at 2:04 am
I am a good fighter, I am very good at BJJ and judo and this was a stepping stone. I wouldn't have it any other way, I could have done without the broken jaw in three places, but it happens.

I will be back and do well and earn the respect of my peers. I started training the minute I got back and as a result re-broke my jaw.

I have had the issue of Matt hitting me after I was out and that sure happened, but I don't think it was on purpose. Your head is spinning when you are in the octagon, its nuts. I spoke with him and he seemed sincere and wanted to know how I was. I heard he talks about it a lot about it but he is a young kid, arrogant, I assume just as many of the people who end up in this sport I am sure are at that age, it was his 2nd fight, his first KO and the whole TUF environment is surreal to say the least. Don’t think he is a bad kid at all.
As for the post that was copied from NHB Gear, I apologize for not running it through spell check, if I had know the grammar police was going to be out I would have. Thanks for those who are supporting me. I think the ones who are bashing me but don't know me will be fans eventually as well. Thanks again.
Stu G- April 10, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Matt should be fined / suspended for that shit, it was at least 3 times as bad as what Renato Sobral did to David Heath. He saw Simmler was clearly knocked out there was no need for those other two punches, I hope the same thing happens to Matt the little bitch
Matt K- April 10, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Matt should not have thrown the last three punches. Dan was out before he hit the ground. That was obvious on TV, so it had to be apparent to the guy who threw the punch. Waht goes around comes around. He'll get his. There are better, more well rounded fighters in this season, and one of them will submit him. Hopefully, for his sake, they do not break his arm after he taps.
Brandt- April 10, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Matt's a really nice guy in real life and nothing was done out of malice. People like Misty Glenn have absolutely no idea what it's like to be out there in a MMA fight on TUF in front of two top notch LHW's.

This scenario has happened about 50 times in the past year and most don't get televised. Simmler would have done the same thing. Once a fighter drops, you continue until the referee ends the fight.

Bottom line: If you don't like MMA, don't watch it.
beatrix- April 10, 2008 at 2:22 am

of course you should stop if you know he's out. I understand that adrenaline may cloud your judgment, but if the fighter isn't moving - lay the fuck off. Let's look at an example of what a real fighter does -

If we are trying to push the sport to the limits of primetime and whatnot, we need to fight responsibly. The first time that happens on NBC, ABC, CBS, etc - it won't be good publicity. I've seen enough about this KO on the web. Let the dumbass reporters exploit this and let the sport take one step backward - no thanks.
T-Mac- April 10, 2008 at 1:22 am
In regards to this fight, that stuff happens pretty quick. If I was in that scenario I would have to keep swinging like Riddle did until the ref stops it. The one time you back off, it's bites you in the ass. I think the ref could have ran over there a little quicker after the first hot, but it's tough to say. It was a brutal hit, fun to watch...
cw- April 10, 2008 at 12:34 am
In my previous post about this (in the link I mentioned above) I said that I see this stuff happen all the time in the UFC . And it's not illegal, but it does make you a poor sportsman. The comments on the this were far more intelligent in the last thread on this.
JAZACKED- April 10, 2008 at 12:30 am
What so Anthony Johnson shoulda stopped hitting Tommy Speer? and James Irwin shoulda stopped throwing against Alexander?

It aint over till the ref tackles you...that way pussies like Karo can't whine that they were ok...

This Serra "prodigy" is no different...
Misty Glenn- April 9, 2008 at 10:34 pm
I think Matt Riddle is a UFC wanna be chicken shit PUSSY! What kind of professional fighter throws punches after his opponent is KO even if the Ref hasn't stopped the fight "If the guy is laying on the mat and he's not moving then common sence would tell you he's KO" so why keep swinging?! PUSSY!!!! Matt never conducted good sportsman like conduct and frankly I hope that he gets his ass handed to him worse then he could ever imagine the next time he steps in the cage. Dana White said that he wanted to weed out the pussys and that he didn't think there were any in the final 16 but I beg to differ cause Matthew Riddle is still in the game and it doesn't get more pussy than that.
Brian- April 9, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Are you kidding me, its the killer instinct that all fighters should i have you pound the guy until the ref stops it
JAZACKED- April 9, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Gimme a break...the guy needed to be finished. He was terrible at best. The 2nd and 3rd shots are instinct. Another one of Serra's boys bites the dust...surprise surprise
cw- April 9, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Like I said before ( - Riddle is a sack of crap. He broke the guy's jaw and knocked him out. Then, for good measure, he strikes him two more times on the mat breaking his jaw twice more. Class act. I hope he gets KO-ed in the first round of TUF.
