Apparently, Ultimate Fighter 7 knockout victim Dan Simmler regularly posts under the name “Macaco_Louco” on NHBGear.com‘s MMA forum. Simmler typed up his reaction to last night’s TUF episode directly after it aired, and posted it on this thread:
Hey,
So that wasnt as bad as I thought, I honestly didnt remember much. I found it kind of funny actually that I had no idea where I was.
I dont remember the flying whatever that was, I think triangle, and I dont remember anything else pretty much either.
The fiirst thing I remember was at the hostpital. So, I have a deviated septum in my nose, cant breath good at all with out a breath right strip, I had one on and right before my fight, I was told I couldnt wear it. I wasnt given a good reason, just that I couldnt, so as a result, I was breathing through my mouth the whole time, that just made things worse when I got hit. My mouth was wide open and I broke my jaw in three places. two on the left, one on the right. It was very painful to say the least.
One week after I got home to the day I decided I was going to train “Light” with a student, and I took his back and he pushed off and his head smashed me under the jaw with the back of his head, rebreaking the jaw. The hostpital is literally across the street from the school and I was kept over night and had surgery the next day. They put two small plates, 4 screws and wires back to keep it shut. For a little over 7 weeks I had nothing but shakes and tomato soup. It was horrible. I lost about 20 lbs and now I am waiting to get the ok to spar and get back to the grind. Ill be back and do better.
I am sorry that I couldnt have done better, I was happy to get it over with and see what I did and what mistakes I made and where I can improve. Thanks for the support…
The UFC did pick up the tab for the injuries, they didnt have too but they did and I was greatful for that.
As for the punch, the original broke the left side of my jaw , the next to broke in two spots on the other side. The jaw broke on both sides at the wisdom teeth and on hte right side by the hinge. Sucked but it happens. Thanks for the good words.
The saddest part? Before the knockout, Dan could spell perfectly.
Anyway, to prove that Simmler isn’t just some pussy-ass poser, here’s a video of him actually pulling off the flying-triangle that he tried to finish Matthew Riddle with last night:

commentsRiddle ---- connected his throw, I watched over and over and tried my best to say that his punch landed where he wanted it to. His head turned to the point that he could tell if Dan's toenails were trimmed or not. It seemed almost a desparation shot, but hell that pitcher on the Red Sox can also hit his target... you know that Japanese closure they have.
I was watching that fight over and over. It seemed that Dan was holding the upper hand for a good portion of the time. He seemed steady with the exception, when he tried some kind of "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Move", the .... what I would like to call the "Flying Triangle of Pain" I have watched a few of Dan's clip and it seems to be a wonderful reliant closure for him.
Looks like someone got up on the wrong side of the crib today. Ive tried out twice. That's it. I tried out for season 3 and was a alternate, however, I had so desire to be on the show then or fight in the UFC. I went to support 3 of my teammates and after the 5th round of cuts ahd been made I found myself interviewing for the show when all my friends had been cut.
To say anything bad about my BJJ is just silly. At my weight and and belt there are maybe 5-10 kids at best in the country that can beat me. Very few brown belts can hang with me and if they can, they are at the top of the food chain (Kron, Moriarty, Chase, Juberta, Cameron,...) I can assure you its a significantly shorter list than yours. The reason no "Real" fighters are making a big deal of it is cause it happens to everyone. It's part of the game, it's like being thrown out at 2nd in baseball. Just part of the sport. You are one of the couch potato MMA jock riders that you preech about. What have you done that is so grat you can bash other fighters you clearly know nothing about.GET A LIFE.
As for the comment about Riddle, I wish him the best. He is a arrogant kid, that comes with hard work and confidence behind hard training I feel, he is a nice kid though, he is young and I am sure will do alot in the sport, funny as hell I thought, but he had the lucky day that fight not me. It happens, you pick up, train harder and move on. The difference between someone who is good and someone who becomes a champion is the champion can look at a negative and take the positive from it to grow and become better, the other guy complains and makes excuses. Excuses are for losers.

I'm not sure that a toddler can strike better than a grown man. One thing I am sure of is a toddler can write a sentence better than you. Go back to second grade and learn how to actually write a sentence that people can read. If people could read your moronic writing, maybe they would actually understand what the fuck you're saying.
I thought it was pretty even first round, and that it could've went either way. It's just too bad you got caught. I'm glad that eventually things are turning around and that it was a fixable (albeit a slow one) problem.
Side note: Oh and do you know if Jeremiah Riggs had lost teeth before the fight or during his fight?
Simmler you def have my respect before and after this fight. Maybe if I get my act together I'll see you at your gym and start training again.. haha
Good luck in the future
James
I will be back and do well and earn the respect of my peers. I started training the minute I got back and as a result re-broke my jaw.
I have had the issue of Matt hitting me after I was out and that sure happened, but I don't think it was on purpose. Your head is spinning when you are in the octagon, its nuts. I spoke with him and he seemed sincere and wanted to know how I was. I heard he talks about it a lot about it but he is a young kid, arrogant, I assume just as many of the people who end up in this sport I am sure are at that age, it was his 2nd fight, his first KO and the whole TUF environment is surreal to say the least. Don’t think he is a bad kid at all.
As for the post that was copied from NHB Gear, I apologize for not running it through spell check, if I had know the grammar police was going to be out I would have. Thanks for those who are supporting me. I think the ones who are bashing me but don't know me will be fans eventually as well. Thanks again.

This scenario has happened about 50 times in the past year and most don't get televised. Simmler would have done the same thing. Once a fighter drops, you continue until the referee ends the fight.
Bottom line: If you don't like MMA, don't watch it.
of course you should stop if you know he's out. I understand that adrenaline may cloud your judgment, but if the fighter isn't moving - lay the fuck off. Let's look at an example of what a real fighter does - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnpUkneMSWE
If we are trying to push the sport to the limits of primetime and whatnot, we need to fight responsibly. The first time that happens on NBC, ABC, CBS, etc - it won't be good publicity. I've seen enough about this KO on the web. Let the dumbass reporters exploit this and let the sport take one step backward - no thanks.
It aint over till the ref tackles you...that way pussies like Karo can't whine that they were ok...
This Serra "prodigy" is no different...
