UFC president Dana White today proved our sneaking suspicion that Vitor Belfort being dropped from his UFC 122 bout with Yushin Okami had little to do with him being injured, as was originally incorrectly reported by MMAWeekly, and a lot to do with Chael Sonnen being unable to face Anderson Silva at the UFC’s planned NYE show.
Although White didn’t tweet a date for the eventual showdown, the CP magic 8-ball points to the January 1 UFC 125 card that Sonnen was scheduled to face Silva on.
Here’s Belfort’s response to his "earning" a title shot:
Sonnen is (allegedly) not convinced the fight is a go:

Oh, and WAR Belfort.
So is the landlord Chaelito Sonnenchez? The guy that pissed all "hot and spicy"?
Belfort wasnt referring to Jesus the prophet when he made the statement "I expect Jesus everyday". Thats also the name of his hispanic landlord and Vitor is 2 months past due. He's right too, its only a matter of time.
Also, props to cecils_pupils for breaking this story four hours ago.
Anderson does have the best overall striking in MMA... but Vitor has 2 natural abilities that help him cover the gap: speed and power. Combine that with his already solid boxing and he has a decent chance against just about anybody.
I also think him adopting Machida's stance has helped him quite a bit. He's much more patient, his head is further away, and when he has an opportunity to counter, he has been exploding forward (with very, very effective results as of late).
Pre-Chael, Silva's chin appeared to be made out of diamonds. While Chael didn't exactly rock him, he certainly did wobble him momentarily.
Silva makes slower fighters look nothing short of foolish. However, Belfort is not slow. Against Belfort, I wouldn't be that surprised to see him catch Silva if he comes in with a good gameplan. If it makes it to the end of the second round, then chances start increasing rapidly that Silva walks away the winner... but don't count Belfort out just yet...
True but Blackberrys just completely SUCK!
I think Anderson still has the best striking in MMA. Belfort knocked out Lutter... and Rich Franklin.
Anderson fucked both those guys days up. Although i'll give Belfort the nicer finish vs. Lutter.
Belfort hasn't done anything to prove he is at Silva's level at all yet. Chael has Anderson in wrestling and GnP no doubt. What does Belfort have? Other than being less experienced in the UFC, smaller and having a smaller reach. Sorry guys, but I was hoping Belfort could fight Marquardt or Okami and actually land another knockout, because after Silva rolls him he's going downnnn in the rankings.
But all this is actually kind of good cause I REALLY want to see a Silva vs. Belfort 2. Man that fight would be amazing.
Blackberry has its own encrypted message network, and I'm going out on a limb here to say Dana is paranoid.
