Dana White Crosses Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez Off Short List of Potential Dos Santos Opponents

Crazy enough to come true?  (Photoshop via @ItsChrisRees)

In the wake of the Alistair Overeem testosterone scandal, we’re left with a steaming pile of science to sort through. We’ve learned that the half-life of injectable testosterone is eight days, and that grown men don’t naturally double in size in five year’s time. But as usual, science doesn’t have all of the answers, and with less than two months to go before UFC 146, we’re left with one important question: Who will be challenging Junior Dos Santos for his belt?

According to his twitter account, Dana White won’t be waiving in former champions Frank Mir or Cain Velasquez to save the day, choosing to face the pair off as previously planned. If we take the UFC Prez at his word–and really, why wouldn’t we?–we’re left with very few options for healthy, deserving fighters available on short notice. One potential, albeit unlikely name being bandied about online is Mark Hunt. The #RallyForMarkHunt campaign has garnered some attention for the Super Samoan, but time will tell who actually gets the shot at gold.

All things considered, who do you want to see standing across the Octagon from ‘Cigano’ on May 26th?

Give Uncle Chael his superfight

Dana loves to book rematches, and you have a guy who just lost the belt to a lucky shot before they ever really got to fight, who had NEVER LOST BEFORE. How is that not the replacement fight?
Casa de los pantelones- April 7, 2012 at 6:40 pm
Omg, Hendo would get murdered.

To be clear, I am still mad at Reem. another option is: if Gustaffson wins convincingly and is uninjured, give him the shot. He will have over a month to bulk up. I hear you can gain like 25 lbs of solid muscle in a month.
ghostboner- April 7, 2012 at 3:34 pm
Being mad at Reem for juicing is like being mad at a baby for pooping in it's diaper. Now get on over to the UG and sign the petition for Hunt. Do it. Do it. Doooo it. Do it.

No potential matchup interests me like Ubereem v. JDS does. I really can't think of any other HW I'd like to see in that fight. I would like to see Bones Jones step up for a superfight. Too bad he's about to fight Evans. I guess Frank Mir? Really bummed that Ubereem is possibly out.
amsterdamheavy- April 7, 2012 at 4:46 pm
No "possibly" about it. The NSAC would have ZERO credibility forever and ever if they let Ubereem fight in 6 weeks after this debacle.

To see hendo across the cage would be so bad ass! THE MAN WANTS TO FIGHT! LET HIM FIGHT!
Shifty-Eyed Dog- April 7, 2012 at 1:42 pm
I think Dana's reply is being misinterpreted. The guy on twitter was saying he really wanted to still see Mir vs Cain, and Dana said "Mir vs. Cain will happen."

He did NOT say it was still on for *this* card. I took it as Dana saying, "dont worry, that fights gonna happen eventually." I think Mir gets the shot on his card, and win or lose fights Cain next.
Shifty-Eyed Dog- April 7, 2012 at 1:47 pm
I meant on *this* card, not "on his card". Why doesnt this site have an edit post option?

Title shot to Hendo that would be fuckin awesome! Truth be told, Hendo's H-bomb isnt going to phase Cigano's massive skull, but Hendo has a chance if he doesn't gas. Werdum and Carwin would get their ass beat again. I cast my vote for Fedor! Make it happen baldfather!

JSD vs Overeem is still happening. Overeem has not been suspended and UFC has not changed the fight card.
amsterdamheavy- April 7, 2012 at 4:48 pm
You're delusional. You think teh NSAC is going to license him after a testing irregularity and then a full-blown failure? Ubereem will be out for at least a year - whats he going to do, claim a medical use exemption? Not.
macreadysshack- April 7, 2012 at 1:04 pm
Jesus. Werdum again, I guess - it's been 4 years and he looked good against that LHW he fought last fight. It's like asking which of the ugly sisters I want to kiss.

PS In order to maybe save somebody else the grief of losing your entire comment: I've found that if the system logs you out and displays the login when you are trying to post a comment, if I press the 'X' and close it, I can get back to my comment and cntl-c it, re-login and then cntrl-v it.
Thanks a lot for making me figure this out. Great system.

Give the fight to Hendo! He wants it and what the hell it is more interesting than Hunt or Mir.

I agree give it to Mike Russow!
