(Part 3 of Dana White’s UFC 100 video blog, in which he tries and fails to understand the media bias against him. Poor guy. We have no idea why he gets a bad reputation.)
Talking with the media after the UFC 100 press conference on Thursday, UFC president Dana White confirmed that Cro Cop was back on board, and also took a shot at the “sneaky” Japanese promoters who tried to steal him away. In case you didn’t already know that White is no fan of the way the Japanese handle their MMA, he’d like to make it perfectly clear, to the point of kind of insulting the entire nation:
I have said this many times and I’ll say it again: there’s some crooked sh*t that goes on over in Japan. They’re all crooked. There’s some sneaky sh*t going on over there, and that’s always a big problem, you know. These guys who are in the fight business over there, for my Mexican friends, ‘No bueno. No bueno.’
You don’t have to tell Dana White to remember Pearl Harbor. He’s never forgotten.
Okay, so it’s no secret that Japanese MMA is run very differently than over here in America, and we’re not just talking about freak show fights. They’ve been known to edge right up to the line of fight fixing, if not over it, and Dream has even been accused of straight-up stiffing non-Japanese fighters. But couldn’t Dana White charge across the Pacific and clean up their act with some epic UFC-ness? Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem all that interested.
"They’re going to kill me if I ever go to Japan. Why are you trying to get me over there? (Laughs) They hate me over there."
Reporter: "They’re waiting for you."
White: "They’re waiting for me. Yeah, they sure are."
Better be careful, we don’t want to give Bob Reilly any ideas. If he starts thinking that the enemy of his enemy is his friend, he might pick up the phone and call the Yakuza. Don’t do it, Bob. Once they do you a favor, then you’re indebted to them forever. And it’s not like people aren’t going to notice when all those "Oriental Massage" parlors start popping up in New York’s 109th District.
