Dana White is Not Impressed by Frank Mir’s UFC 119 Non-Performance

(If a fighter’s going to strut like that, Dana wants them to at least have something to strut about.)

To say Dana White is a bit upset with the two fighters from Saturday night’s UFC 119 main event would be a major understatement. A more appropriate statement would be that the UFC president is pissed right off with the lethargic performances put in by Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic and Frank Mir at the Conseco Field House in Indianapolis last weekend.

White spoke to ESPN today and took aim at one half of the duo that made up 119′s final fight — former heavyweight champion, Mir who he hinted that he hasn’t decided whether or not fans will see fight again in the Octagon.

When asked outright if he was considering cutting Mir, who can hardly be considered a killer any more at 2-2 in his past four outings, although he still talks like he has gold around his waist, making lofty claims like "I’m taking Mirko’s leg home and I’m going to hang it on my mantle," White didn’t beat around the bush.

"Sure. You really, really need to show up and deliver. This is a job… I have no clue about Frank. To talk the stuff he does, and then fight like he fought, that’s a little frustrating," he said. "Once Cro Cop stuffed his takedown attempt, his heart fell out on the floor. If Frank Mir can’t bully you, his heart shrinks to the size of the Grinch’s. If he can’t take you down, his heart shrinks to the size of a pea."

Ironically, it’s White who could play the part of the Grinch to Frank’s family if he cuts him just before Christmas. Judging by the series of tweets Mir’s teenage son angrily typed on the iPhone paid for by the UFC, including three that were direct messages to White questioning his sexuality (in a manner of speaking) because of his decision to not award his pop the "Knockout of the Night" bonus he should have won by default, the only thing Dana would be keeping out of the kid’s stocking is a lump of coal.

Here’s what mini-Mir had to say about the situation in a series of tweets he wrote following his dad’s lacklustre KO win over Cro Cop:

@danawhite thinks hes a badass cuz he drives a lambo and sits by the cage, and puts pics of himself wrappin his hands for nothing!! FAGGET!!

cant believe that shit!!! @thefrankmir didnt get KO of the night cuz @danawhite doesnt like him?? what a hater

@EdwardsKim cro cock didnt do shit that WHOLE fight!!!

@AlmightySavage yeah we all did but @danawhite cant handle the fact @thefrankmir knocked cro cock the fuck out!

It seems that Daddy may have laid the boom down on Jr. as Marcus’ Twitter account has now been deleted.

If one of my kids went on a public forum and not only slagged my boss, but also sent him inflammatory and improperly spelled messages, I’d be pissed. You’re supposed to save that shit for the dinner table and family drives, not Twitter and Facebook, son.

Anyway, White went on to say that he’s sick of fighters who train for months for a fight and then go out on fight night and do everything but fight.

"You go to your job and don’t perform, what will happen? And when people say, ‘Hey, these guys put their lives on the line,’ that’s a crock of s—. This sport is so safe. These guys have chosen to be fighters! These guys aren’t going into Afghanistan," he said. "The U.S. military puts their life on the line. Police, firefighters walk into the line of fire … UFC fighters do not. These are smart guys with college educations. If they don’t want to do this, go out and get a real job."

Translation: If you want to dress like a fighter and not get punched in the face, get a regular job and wear your TapouT hat and Affliction shirt out to the sports bar on fight night and pretend you’re a fighter like all the other douchebags.

This latest impasse with Frank might be the straw for White, who is said to have torn a strip off of Mir for comments he made about wanting Brock Lesnar to die in the Octagon in their UFC 100 bout last year. Dana has recently adopted a new, "I’m not putting up with any fighter’s bullshit, regardless of who they are or how good they might be," which he first tried out on heavyweight prospect Todd Duffee, who he axed earlier this month, citing his "terrible attitude" as the primary reason for his firing.

I, for one, do care what grammar nazis think about what I type. Because I am not a philistine.

What I don't care about is everyone being group-referential. If someone wrote something funny, writing something funny back. Typing his name after an at symbol and saying it was funny compels me to wheel all the way back up, and after that happens three times in the same thread, I'm going to post this at the bottom. Geez.

Good dyoosh rant abou the tapout/affliction crew. Well said. I see those clowns every time I go to a bar/club and they are annoying as hell.

Danomite was good, but Freddy Faggers and Motrooplis win.

On a side note, nothing wrong with grammar policing every now and then. If I am talking to you in real life and you say something incorrect/stupid/nonsensical I am probably going to correct and/or mock you. No reason why I shouldn't do it via text as well. Learn to spell or expect some ridicule.

I was dissapointed, but having been KO'ed in 2 of his last 3 (before this fight), you can't blame the guy for being a bit cautious. Like you can't really blame Koscheck for not standing and trading with Daley when he knew a title shot was on the line.

I don't think Mir is done, and I don't think Dana is going to cut him just yet. Sure, his son can't spell Faggot (or he'd trying to avoid the Gay Mafia throwing a hissy fit, which won't work) and he's caused a bit of a fuss with the whole wanting Brock dead thing, but the guy is still great and has some classic finishes on his highlight reel.

Also, the caption for that photo should have been, Haters gon hate.

Dana's being an ass here. Mir has some of the most exciting finishes in the sport's history, and has a ton of potential, still. While he should have been more aggressive, shit happens. More to the point, it's not hard to understand WHY this shit happened. Mir is coming off two TKO losses. He doesn't want hi career to end getting knocked out a third time by an over the hill kick boxer.

It's also very difficult to look exciting against a fighter who's unwilling to engage. Mir was ON HIS FEET with Cro Cop for fifteen minutes, within range of the dude's legs, not threatening a takedown. Could Mir have done more? Should he? Absolutely, but I'm not sure it's because he was unable to -- more like he didn't have the heart to. Frankly, this fight could have been fixed.

@ dano - very nice! It doesn't quite have the originality of "First!", but nice comment nonetheless.

I think one problem here is us fickle fucking fans. On the one hand, we have spent the last few months complaining about increasingly boring fights, and everyone giving Dana shit about it and saying he needs to do something. Then when he tries to do something, half the people on here complain about his lack of professionalism, his handling of fighters, etc.

It doesn't stop there. WithoutRemorse and others say that Dana caused the situation of boring fights because if you lose you get fired. Nevermind that he was saying Mir risks getting cut even though he won the fight. And I suppose he should just perpeually employ people regardless of record or relevance? Well, not to others on here who seem to think Mir is done and well past his prime. So is Dana supposed to keep guys that nobody wants to see headlining fights?

I want to see exciting fights, and best I can tell from all of this, so does Dana White. I say good for him. Hopefully this will help motivate some people, but I doubt there is anything he can do that will entirely solve the problem.

Hey Wifey,
at least that major's getting some use once in a while though.
WithoutRemorse- September 28, 2010 at 8:05 am
Well the only real comment i have is to Dana... this speaks to a larger issue in the UFC, boring ass fights.. the cause? if you lose you get fired... who on earth is going to risk that. The entire organization encourages boring fights because they fire people when they lose 2 or more fights in a row (depending on who they are). It's one of the things that i preferred to pride.. The fan's didn't give a fiddlers fuck what the guy's recored was. As long as he went out there an banged they were fans. UFC need to distance themselves from the win loss record promotion of their fighters. But i like the shift in thinking to some degree... if you lose you still get fired but you might also get fired if you put on a boring show. I'm just saying....

C'mon videorome we all know Mir doesn't have fans...except for the bad ass facial hair aficionado's, he looks like a bully from 1996.
Videodrome_NOW- September 28, 2010 at 7:25 am
Looks like Frank has done a great job with his kid and one can only hope the little shit is going to grow up and be just like his conceited, overpayed, closet pedophile of a dad.

Shame on you Red baron for sticking up for Mir. Mir fans
MoTropolis- September 28, 2010 at 6:26 am
And what a fucktard Mir's son is, he sounds like a real prick. Atleast we know his father is spending PLENTY of time raising him.
MoTropolis- September 28, 2010 at 6:24 am
@ Harold Howard

No, the dudes in jerseys also reek of douche, its just this isnt a football/basketball/baseball site so we focus on the douche's we know best.
J_Spice- September 28, 2010 at 5:47 am
MoTropolis FTW! that cracked me up.
Viva Hate- September 28, 2010 at 5:34 am
I heard Croatia is linking little Mir to some terrorist group with pube like growth on their chins, an inflated sense of self worth, and a fatwa against Brock Lesnar.
J-Dog- September 28, 2010 at 5:10 am
DW never said he was pissed off at the post-fight press conference, but you could tell he wasn't a happy camper. He seemed "curt", as another reporter put it to me.
Harold_Howards_Gnar_Face- September 28, 2010 at 4:44 am
How is it that if you wear a tapout/affliction/silver star shirt you are expected to actually compete in mma or else you're labelled a douchebag poser, but you can wear an NBA/NFL etc. jersey purely on the basis that you're a fan, and it's all good. Perhaps it's just the fucked up, wanna be tough guy haircuts and attitude that accompany most tapout wearing fan boys, but shit, cant a guy rock a tapout shirt just for the fact that you're an mma fan? The answer, is no. You look like a douche.
Red Baron- September 28, 2010 at 4:25 am
Dayum Dana, I'm embarassed about what you said, and I'm 700 miles away and not part of the conversation.

Lighten up on Mir already! He's a little like Randy Couture, a legend in the UFC and worthy of a certain amount of defference and respect even if can't fight like he did 10 years ago.

Agreed with fACE7biter about Roy Nelson. Nelson v. Mir would be epic!
oki-who oki-ryu- September 28, 2010 at 12:02 am
@just_the_tip... speaking of brandon vera, i wouldnt mind seeing him and mir in a battle for their respective jobs. Rematch battle of the most inconsistent fighters the ufc has to offer.
cecils_pupils- September 27, 2010 at 10:34 pm
Agreed - danomite wins this one hands down.
dranokills- September 27, 2010 at 10:30 pm
there are just to many fucking newbies who all they do is play grammer nazi. (Shifty-Eyed Dog)
Seriously people'S......bring something else to the board would ya, cause nobody gives 2 fucks what you think about how we type.
Bill Jackson- September 27, 2010 at 9:22 pm
Mir said that stuff about Lesnar before his fight with Carwin. He was talking about a potential third fight with Lesnar.
MoTropolis- September 27, 2010 at 9:17 pm
I heard DW was so disappointed in Cro Cop's performance, he was thinking about cutting Pat Barry.
