Dana White Says Anderson Silva Will Likely Face Chael Sonnen Next

During today’s UFC 140 press conference in Toronto, Dana White was asked about a potential superfight between UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones and middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva, “once Jones goes through Machida and Evans” and the UFC president revealed that one of the variables that stands in the way of the bout happening is a likely second meeting between “The Spider” and Chael Sonnen.

“[Jones] just whispered, ‘You can’t look past these guys.’ He’s got two tough fights ahead of him and then Anderson’s gonna continue to fight. He’ll probably end up fighting Chael Sonnen [next]. They’ve got a lot of tough guys in front of them.”

White stopped short of naming a date for the Sonnen-Silva rematch since Anderson is currently rehabilitating a shoulder injury. It’s likely that Sonnen will sit and wait for the bout rather than take a fight in the meantime against someone like Vitor Belfort since he stands to lose his spot in line if he loses. The pre-fight smack talk between Vitor and Chael would be epic, judging by the recent Twitter exchanges.

Ah yeah that's why he had silva on his back for 5 rounds and didn't/couldn't finish him. You're the fuken idiot go suck on chael's sweaty nutsack for a while longer

I got it, clear as daylight. I find not one fault in your opinion, none once so ever. As you said, "...articles are written at a clear slant towards certain fighters..." I'll add promotions and organizations "...and clear disrespect towards others kind of makes it clear."
You should post more often...

I never visited an mma until the beloved Rex informed me of Cage Potato. When I first started coming to the site, there was a LOT of shit talking which personally, I loved, but at the same time the general opinion of CP was focused on the skill of a fighter. I know fans are going to like who they like and dislike who they don't but facts still have to be taken in to account. I wouldn't even comment on someone saying that they hope Sonnen beats Silva through the octagon floor, but for the entire site to act like Silva is a chump and Sonnen is some uncrowned champ is mind boggling to me. The way the articles are written at a clear slant towards certain fighters and clear disrespect towards others kind of makes it clear as to why CP is banned from UFC events. I have personal ties to CP so I stay but as once avid fan of CP i must keep it real in saying the trend is not going up. When CP isn't acting like a woman's summer's eve chat with all the hurt pussy feelings being woven in to every article and let the fight tell the story, then allow us to talk all the shit we want, CP is second to none, but when the articles all have a tone that seem to be recruiting sack riders with no ability to see a fight seperate from their man crushes, the site is barely mediocre. MY Opinion
HandsofGold- October 13, 2011 at 10:34 am

Lay and pray did you not watch the fight with him and Anderson he hardly just laid there buddy. Fuckin idiot
XENOPHON- October 13, 2011 at 10:14 am
Your post is very much all about the general sentiment of the CP as family...and I am sure you can make an argument that both the editors and writers at CP have both influence and sway over how a story is spun.
So let me ask the "Nasty Boss" direct. Tell me the name of a better MMA fan site, and explain why I should check it out?
SnackDaddy- October 13, 2011 at 10:09 am
Let me put it this way, Chael is not even in the same league as Silva. I can bet my bottom dollar that Chael can't even get past Munoz if they fought. Silva's gonna own Chael ass the second time around.
XENOPHON- October 13, 2011 at 10:08 am
It was a submission (arm triangle choke)in the lower half of the second frame.
We'll soon get to see if your right, either Sonnen was at his best ever against an inured Silva, and was lucky to make it into the 5th round?
Or Sonnen took Silva's best shots, and choked at the end? Look at Kenny Florian, it's not a crime of death sentence to loose a title fight.
This next fight should be very decisive.

Why is it that people will latch on to the balls of a huge douche just to be against the non English speaking black guy? Chael will never beat Anderson. Keep hoping and praying for it. It's been 2006 since the Champ lost. It must be miserable for those who hate him so bad. Before Stann, Chael hadn't finished a fight since 2007. He's a Lay N Pray guy yet you're still swinging from his PED shrunken sack. His strength of hugging grown, sweaty men on the ground often leads him to tapping like his opponent is covered in mosquitos. The guy doesn't even deserve another shot. What, for beating Stann?
BossNasty- October 13, 2011 at 9:45 am
For real what logic do Sonnen fans use to ride his nuts so hard. I somewhat agree about Sonnen Belfort since I feel like a lot of the hype about Belfort was just hype. All of CP was riding Belforts nuts for the Silva fight, and I never understood why since Belfort hadn't fought anyone significant in years. I think Sonnen would win that fight 9 of 10 times. I've said I was impressed by what Sonnen accomplished in Silva fight, but don't let your hate for Silva ruin your integrity. Sonnen kept Silva on his back for 4.5 rounds...THAT IS ALL...Sonnen got beat up in Silva's guard and choked out. That combined with the fact that Silva was hurt, Sonnen had shady shit going on with his testosterone levels, and that he set his mom up for one of HIS scams. That all falls second to a champ who danced around the ring a couple of fights??? You know when I look back at how CP acted about Rashaad when he knocked out Chuck, and how CP didn't like Cain because of his tatoo, I think I know why CP would back a Sonnen and hate a Silva who already beat Sonnen.

Irrelevant talent on one side of the coin is one way of looking at fight match ups, yet in business the show must go on.
Munoz, needs just one more visible win to support his own legitimacy, then he needs to step up and get some media spin of his he has about zero visibility in a place where visibility and name recognition carries men into fights.
If the Fluffa people won't, then Munoz needs to now build this hype on his own. It's today's lesson in entertainment marketing.
XENOPHON- October 13, 2011 at 8:18 am
Yeap, no doubt the same sentiment resides hear too. Vitor, walked from from fighting, and although it's good to see he's back in the the game...he was given several chances as he was artificially slated ahead of others deserving, and when those chances arrived he came up far too short.
boush- October 13, 2011 at 5:01 am
I don't see why everyone is out hugging Sonnen's nuts. In my opinion he is the worst kind of fighter. So boring to watch. At least with Anderson you get some highlight reel KO's ( granted not every time but mostly) where as with chael you get some lame ass lay and pray sh*t. I hate the way Sonnen fights, him and others like him are the worst thing about MMA, boring ass wrestlers - YAWN. I appreciate the power of wrestling but do you really want a champ like that. Give me front face kicks any day, even if it's wearing a pink shirt.

P.S. Hasn't Chael been dissing Anderson's choke on him as not really beating him - in light of this, didn't Brian Stann win this fight and shouldn't he get the next title shot? By Chael's logic that is.

@KAMC sorry homie i have to dissagree with you one this point of leben vs. vitor....
Leben has proven to be nothing more than gatekeeper at this point, against vitor i see leben getting crushed. in fact i dont think leben could beat his nemesis cockcheck if they fought in the same division.
leben had a good victory in his last fight, but trust me , he will fuck it it up once he faces stiffer competition.
leben punching style leaves his face completely wide open to a vitor face fucking.
im jus saying
towelie- October 12, 2011 at 5:08 pm
I don't see Leben as being any where near as explosive as Vitor is all I'm saying. Yes, he did KO a 100 year old Wandy, but he has been on a downward spiral for a bit now. It would be entertaining in the sense that I like watching KO's, but as I said I think an easy win for Vitor.
RSparrow- October 12, 2011 at 4:47 pm
I agree with your matchup being extremely entertaining... I just think Vitor sits higher above the ladder.
RearNakedSpoon- October 12, 2011 at 4:01 pm
Perhaps thats why they won;t do it again but his back to back lose to Edgar did more harm to his reputation.
RearNakedSpoon- October 12, 2011 at 3:50 pm
GSP vs Penn 2?
IronClad- October 12, 2011 at 3:12 pm
I can see Chael fighting Vitor if Chael beats A.Silva. The fight that you will NEVER see happen is John Jones vs A.Silva or A.Silva vs GSP. Your not going to see champions in UFC fight each other unless its "Interim" title holders vs the real holder. Trust me....UFC spends too much time building up champions and they wont risk the integrity of one of their champs loosing especially when they are considered some of the top pound for pound fighters (GSP, A.Silva, Jose Aldo) You will never see any of these fights step out of their weight class or fight at a catch weight against another ufc champ.

" It’s likely that Sonnen will sit and wait for the bout rather than take a fight in the meantime against someone like Vitor Belfort since he stands to lose his spot in line if he loses."

...cause that worked out SO well for Rashad Evans!
KarmaAteMyCat- October 12, 2011 at 2:48 pm
Vitor and Leben are both coming off a strong win and both at very similar in their reputation and roads leading up to this situation. I don't see any reason why counting Leben out of a slugfest is even an option on the table dude could knock Vitor out it's all very plausible it could go the other way just as easily. I just don't see it as anything but an entertaining fight that people would enjoy watching.. Versus Chael holding vitor down and joking him shitless.
GrandShamrock- October 12, 2011 at 2:45 pm
It's not like they are rewarding smack talk, they are just giving the fight everyone is interested on, you could give a title fight to Mark Muñoz based on wins, or to every other irrelevant fighter, but Chael proved something the first time, he looked in shape this time, and Silva is in need of a worthy opponent. Sometimes sticking to a formula works, but giving titles to irrelevant fighters is just a waste of time, look at Silva's defenses, or GSP vs Koschek 1&2.
Fatty McDickbutts- October 12, 2011 at 2:22 pm
@NinjaVanish UMADBRO? ROLF

I agree with Mr. Karma Cat about Leben\Belfort
RSparrow- October 12, 2011 at 2:04 pm
We all need to stop talking about this fucking fight. Dana is going to think he can get more money if he books this first, and that fucking blows. We need the Sonnen Silva 2. No more Vitor anything...
