Dana White Says St-Pierre-Silva Could Happen Sooner Than Later

An interesting tidbit that came out of Dana White’s Q&A session at the UFC Fan Expo in Boston last weekend was the UFC president’s revelation that a superfight between his middleweight champion, Anderson Silva and welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre may come to fruition in the next year if both men win their next two fights.

When asked by a young fan why he hasn’t made the fight between the two dominant champions yet, White replied:

"Well, Georges St-Pierre is the coach on this season of The Ultimate Fighter and he’s gotta fight Koscheck. Then Jake Shields is here now, so he’s got a couple guys [to get through] before he clears out the division. We’re gonna redo Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva. That rematch is gonna happen and Vitor Belfort is still in the mix. So they got a couple guys they gotta beat before we make that fight, but I’m not opposed to making it."

Sounds like they’ve already counted Okami out of his upcoming bout with Belfort. Poor Yushin; always be the bridesmaid, never the bride.

idk who wins this fight now (after the sonnen gnp, 4 and a half round, beatdown!), but I predict either a late round sub, or a boring decision.

Not really, The Diaz/Lauzon fight were good times.. The Penn fight was boring Edgar and him danced around and did the same thing as the first fight, Besides knowing Frankie has no shot at beating Maynard he hits like a pussy and his wrestling certainly comes in second to Maynard's. Randy destroyed James Toney which was the main reason anyone purchased the PPV we got to see the fatty boxer beaten into humbleness. Anyone who thought Florian had an honest chance against Maynard is a moron and just loves Kenny for his hair style and four o'clock shadow and oh no a Jujitsu Black Belt who happens to be Marketed as just that couldn't finish another fight with anything Jujitsu based what a shame, Maia will never hold that championship as long as contenders like Vitor,Chael are in the division. Now to me this card was not even remotely in contention with the cards before it this year it was as Ben would call it a "LackLuster". Sorry this card gets a 4-10(FIVE at best) yeah moving on.

We all love to QQ about Dana White thing is, this sport owes him more then any of you are willing to admit. Money fights? Are you kidding me I really have to say 118 was the most boring PPV I've seen in some time. As for Silva and Sonnen, I don't know how I feel about he got caught like he always does whatever though lets see round two. GSP well lets see how the fight goes in January and then talk about the GSP/SILVA fight.. What happens is Ksos beats GSP? oh well, I don't see that happening but the great thing about MMA is ANYTHING can happen.

Regarding GSP v. Silva, a fight that I really need to see, I would have picked Silva a few months ago. But after seeing Sonnen execute a gameplan that GSP could not only do but do better, I'm going to have to pick GSP on this one. My only concern is still GSPs mental game. I don't know if he's faced an opponent of this stature and with such an immense intimidation factor. That could really shake GSP. But if he's fired up and ultra-focused under the tutelage of Jackson, I think he's a heavy favorite.

Please make it happen Joe Silva!

Btw, does Chael Sonnen have a nickname? I'm thinking: Chael "Proof of Concept" Sonnen. (Other potential nicknames include, "The Republican Drubbing Machine" and "The Smack-talk Express"). Maverick was taken. :(

dana would love to see anderson lose, he wouldn't mind GSP losing either, you see the way he sells fights is by convincing people that the fight could go either way, he is starting to lose that with these guys

I think Sonnen deserves an immediate rematch. Shogun got one after a close fight, BJ got one after a close fight.

You see, Dana would love to see Anderson lose. The Baldfather hasn't forgotten Abu Dhabi.

oh yeah, forgot to mention that I don't want to see Sonnen-Silva rematch either. I'm the one who's been screaming for them to give him a wrestler for a few years now, but still, he had his chance and he got beat. the same thing is probably gonna happen again. Too bad he appears to be the ONLY wrestler at MW. Must be nice being Anderson Silva though, fighting in a division that doesn't offer him any challenges and everyone using that perceived "dominance" as proof that he's the best P4P in the world, while GSP is down there fighting world-class wrestlers, jiu-jitsu prodigies, and the best strikers the division has to offer.

So if Sonnen beats Silva and Shields beats The frenchie, would the two of them be considered a super fight? FUCK NO, because no one would pay to wat h that fight. DW is starting to take the UFC in the same direction as boxing, by putting on "money fights" and not the fights that make sense. Sonnen does not deserve an immediate rematch, but it makes financial sense.
I say Boo to the bald headed douche nozzle.

Belfort v Okami hadn't been announced at the time this video was shot. Kampman v Shields had though. Sounds like Uncle Dana is counting Marty out to me.

That's just his standard answer to keep fans from booing him. This fight will never happen, and I really don't give a shit anymore. I'm 99% sure that GSP would pound Anderson's skull into powder if they fought. I want to see GSP vs. Lyoto, personally. I know that the Lyoto mystique is gone after the Shogun fights but it would still be more of a challenge than a fight with anderson. Plus, even though Lyoto's a LHW there would be less of a size difference than there would be with Anderson, especially if it were fought at a catchweight.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that Kampmann is gonna just steamroll jake shields? Dana never mentions Kampmann when talking about upcoming matches for GSP. Shields' only chance is to lay on him for 15 minutes but even then Kampmann has the skills to submit him if he tries that.
