As innappropriate as I think Dana White's comments were, they weren't the real source of the outrage. People, even those that are the heads of large companies, get away with saying far worse. They just don't say them about reporters. Calling out and intimidating reporters generates very bad press and causes every other relevant reporter to gang up on you. This creates a bigger issue, and starts to filter into the actual media where interest groups (who mostly hate the sport) find out, and get up in your sponsors faces. It's bad business. It's bad business to use words like that in a public setting, but it's moronic to use them against a reporter.

Oh, and a quick response to the seeming majority of the posters here? Why is it that people should just roll over and accept whatever you or Dana White wants to call them? Mainstream sports writers are so far removed from the reality of MMA that they are still out of touch with the world of MMA and the UFC.
Is Dana White homophobic and misogynistic? Sure he is, but MMA fans are aware of that and willing to let Dana be Dana because it's entertaining. Most every guy (gay or straight) in the MMA world is homophobic and misogynistic. I hear "faggot" and "bitch" and "queer" and "pussy" every day at my gym. It's just part of the mindset of fighters. In a perfect world, this would be different and fighters would be able to balance hyper-masculine aggression with compassion and acceptance. But until you can eliminate the fear that accompanies anger, it won't change. To be hyper-aggressive you have to put down everyone else as weaker than you, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Our society and vocabulary use gender and sexual orientation to express this mindset, but the attitude and the language can be separated from each other in this case.
