During an appearance on the CBS Radio show "The MMAsh," Dana White confirmed an earlier report which suggested he would be taking a reduced media role with the UFC due to the overwhelming amount of negative attention he received after a recent hate-speech-laced video-blog. Some key quotes, via FiveOuncesofPain:
(Translation: "If pussies get offended when I drop the words ‘faggot’ and ‘bitch’ in my angry rants, then fuck it all, because I gotta be me.")
Well, at least that saves us from having to watch another show about the fabulous life of a fight promoter. But I’m curious to learn how the pilot of Dana’s show was worse than his last video blog. Does he branch out to racial slurs, or was he actually filmed throwing beer bottles at homosexuals from his car? The world may never know. And now we won’t even have his video blogs to entertain us on slow news days.
I know it sucks having to watch the things you say so that large groups of people aren’t offended — but unfortunately that’s part of the job description if you’re the president and public face of a company. Ending the vlog-project and reality show hurts the UFC from a publicity standpoint, and it doesn’t force Dana to act professionally from now on. Is this really the best resolution to the situation?
