MMA Fighter Challenges People to Punch Him in the Face, Everyone Fails

Dana White is Surprisingly Complimentary of Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix

(Video courtesy YouTube/currierj21)

Either Dana White made it his New Year’s resolution this year to not attack rival promotions or he saw the figures from Saturday night’s Strikeforce event — either way, he actually compliments Scott Coker and co. and their planned heavyweight grand prix in this interview with Fighters.com.

The UFC president has remained conspicuously silent on the subject and it was somewhat surprising that neither Kevin Iole or Ariel Helwani were the first to report The Baldfather’s feelings about Strikeforce’s eight-man tournament.

Here’s what he had to say:

"No, [I do] not [feel that the grand prix is competition for the UFC] at all. You know how I feel about Strikeforce and the smaller leagues. Listen, putting on a heavyweight tournament that’s going to draw some interest for those guys and then they end up with someone at the end who is perceived as one of the top guys  – I love that shit… love it. I honestly havent thought about it all, but good for them."

Maybe there’s some truth to the rumor that the UFC is in talks to acquire FEG. If so, DW may just be biding his time before he lets Strikeforce know that he punked them out of their proposed role in the DREAM lightweight grand prix — either that or we may finally get to see a Strikeforce vs. UFC tournament. OK, it’s a stretch, but we can dream, can’t we?

Dana is nice when he sees decent fighting, he just hates other federations. I think White has grown as a businessman and will continue.

I don't buy his words for a minute. This tournament definitely chaps D White's ass, especially because every time someone sticks a mic in one of the fighter's faces they're saying how Strikeforce has the best heavyweights in the world. In any other division, that would be laughable, but D White cannot make a compelling argument that Strikeforce doesn't have the best heavyweight roster. I don't think they do, but it's pretty damn good. Also, I think he's playing coy, not wanting to go off on one of his usual rants about how Fedor sucks, and best are fighting the best three times a year in the UFC, which we know isn't true, and blah blah blah, because going off like that just proves it bothers him.

Just curious - why is the President of one company expected to be complimentary of his up-and-coming competition?

I don't see Dana bringing the winner of the tourney into the UFC unless it's Werdum. If Werdum wins we would have logged a 2nd win over Overeem, and most likely a 2nd win over Fedor. If Fedor wins, Dana is still forced to deal with M-1, which isn't happening. If Overeem wins, you have the steroid cloud (whether it's legit or not), and the fact that Overeem is the Dream Hvyweight champ, and he's not going to stop competing in K-1.

Listen, it's kind of like the Ultimate Fighter, except we don't have to do shit to make it happen. The winner of the tournament gets a contract with the UFC, and Coker can lick my balls after I sign the winner.

Listen......Why does it look painful for Dana white to say anything good about anything in the world other than the UFC.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the same reason the NFL can't find anything good to say about the CFL or the XFL or any other failed minor league bullshit that comes down the pipe.
Haters have to find a reason to hate but the final word in MMA today is UFC, that is just reality that seems to rub people wrong for some reason. (Some of) You guys can fucking stick your hand up Nick Diaz's ass and try to make him your favorite puppet, but you can't see the truth that is obvious as the nose on your face about UFC or Dana White. You must live in a different world that I do...perhaps momma basement for some I'm sure but damn.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"This is a little trickier, but "perceived" jumps out and basically suggests that Dana won't believe the winner is a top HW until he fights in the UFC, but everyone else may which is cute because everyone else is stupid and their reality is flawed compared to himself."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
uh yeah Getoffme everyone elses reality must be flawed to think that whoever emerges from this rinky-dink tournament is going to be a top heavyweight in the world.

Good for them. That's what I came here to say. Get Off Me however got that shit on lockdown.

I wonder what Dana's got up his sleeve... we've already covered what's in his pocket.

@Get Off Me
Exactly what I was thinking. Obviously he's not complimenting.

What he didn't say is that UFC will be countering the finale of the tournament with a fight called: Silva vs GSP.

Excellent translation get off me.
Get Off Me- January 31, 2011 at 5:03 pm
Hardly complimentary of Stirkeforce at all actually.
Allow me to translate:

1."You know how I feel about Strikeforce and the smaller leagues"

Not Complimetary the last time I heard him speak.

2." Listen, putting on a heavyweight tournament that's going to draw some interest for those guys and then they end up with someone at the end who is perceived as one of the top guys -- I love that shit... love it."

This is a little trickier, but "perceived" jumps out and basically suggests that Dana won't believe the winner is a top HW until he fights in the UFC, but everyone else may which is cute because everyone else is stupid and their reality is flawed compared to himself.

3."I honestly havent thought about it all, but good for them."

That's about as complimentary as it gets.

It's an arrogant, more professional way of shitting on this tourney, but at least Dana did not preface the comment by shitting on Strikeforce, maybe cause he needed to hit a bump in the bathroom or something.

Listen, if you mofos aren't talking about Edgar vs. Maynard II 15 years from now, your aren't true fans of the sport. I'm going to check in with you guys on CP 15 years from now just to make sure you are still talking about this shit.

"Listen its like this........Listen let me tell you somthing...."
cecils_pupils- January 31, 2011 at 4:51 pm
Dana: Listen, I say "listen" at the beginning of statements that I want you guys to take seriously. I mean, c'mon, are you even listenin'?
Subo- January 31, 2011 at 4:50 pm
"I'm going to fling money at whomever wins this, as long as it's not Fedor."
Waxedpants- January 31, 2011 at 4:50 pm
He doesn't the need the Diaz bros to hook him up ..... Rogan has him covered
Waxedpants- January 31, 2011 at 4:48 pm
He is definitely toasted up nicely on something

As they say, you can dream in one hand and shit in the other, and see which one fills up faster.
Fried Taco- January 31, 2011 at 4:36 pm
Sounds to me like the Diaz bros hooked Dana up!
