Dana White to Announce Main Event For Fox Debut During Friday Afternoon Media Conference Call, Possibly Featuring Overeem

The UFC announced today that it will be holding an impromptu media conference call tomorrow at 1:00 pm ET, during which Dana White is expected to make a “major announcement.” It didn’t take long for the UFC president to reveal via his favorite communication channel, Twitter, that the announcement will be the two main event combatants in the promotion’s inaugural show on Fox which will also feature a featherweight scrap between Dustin Poirier and Pablo Garza.

Some are hypothesizing that former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, who was dropped by the promotion last month for what Zuffa termed as “an issue with his management team” Golden Glory, will make up half of the bout and that his opponent will either be Brock Lesnar, Shane Carwin or Frank Mir.

Adding to the speculation is a report that came out today by Dutch MMA news site that stated that an anonymous source from Golden Glory confirmed that “The Demolition Man” has signed with the UFC.

Although Golden Glory head Bas Boon has since refuted the story, Overeem’s trainer Martijn de Jong’s latest tweet did little to quell rumors that “The Reem” is once again a Zuffa employee.

We will be on the call tomorrow, so check in for updated here and on Twitter and Facebook.

Chuck vs Tito...The End.

Werdum flopped on the ground like it was an anderson silva fight. He wanted nothing to do with Overeem and lost every round. I will admit Overeem looked rusty for that fight.

I hope he signs with the UFC so I can finally see if I was right about him or if I was just full of shit.
Evan Tanner- September 2, 2011 at 7:10 am
Yea thats why Fabricio Werdum was winning the stand up in their last fight

People dont realize how good Oveereem is. A true vet of the sport and the best striker in the heavies. Santos has faster hands but he is not a K1 champ. No one wants to fight Overeeem it would be a blood bath if he fought Brock.
the glza- September 2, 2011 at 6:47 am
i'm with skeletor. start him off with kongo and then move up to brock/carwin, then jds/velasquez (whoever is not champ) before giving him a HW shot.

@Venomous - I think that's a great look at it and would be very smart by UFC. Getting the whole "Die-hard" crowd with Reem and the whole casual crowd with Brock. This would be a huge draw.

@warchief - Quit being a spaz. And second provide some proof of Brock having a glass jaw. For example, name the list of people who have knocked him out...o wait there are none, b/c he hasn't been knocked out. Not to mention he recovered from being jack hammered by Carwin for an entire round.

@Joedirt - That would be the quickest finish in UFC main event history.

If Overeem doesn't have excellent takedown defense he won't be getting far in this division. I think Brock or Carwin pushes him into the cage, puts him on the ground, and lays a beating on him. I have a feeling overeem will be exposed as a can crusher against the ufc top 5.
Evan Tanner- September 2, 2011 at 6:02 am
I hope Alistair Overrated brings a sleeping bag, on second thought make that a body bag.
J-Dog- September 2, 2011 at 6:00 am
I like any of the three possible matchups mentioned.
Joedirt- September 2, 2011 at 4:52 am
Reem is not the best striker in the heavyweights contrary to some peoples thoughts... Brock may actually take him down. With that said... they are both douches. Main event should be me vs Gina Carano.
SnackDaddy- September 2, 2011 at 1:37 am
The problem with the UFC heavyweight division is the huge difference is the quality of the fighters. You have Dos Santos and Velasquez at the top who have very successfully and quite easily cleared out the entire division. Then you have the likes of Carwin and Lesnar who have destroyed everyone else below them. Then you have everyone else. I think Overeem should be made to fight someone from the second-tier (Carwin or Lesnar). If he's successful, which i have a feeling he will be, give him the winner of Valasquez and Dos Santos. Overall, i think Overeeem's a welcome addition to the highly fragmented UFC heavyweight division.

I think you left out the biggest piece of news'd you get on the conference call?
Todd M- September 1, 2011 at 10:14 pm
If Brock and Alistair fought my money would be on Brock. I don't think the UFC will throw the Reem directly into the fire before getting a few K.O.'s first. I'm thinking Carwin Or Mir whom both the Reem will... uhh... Reem

Overeem VS Kongo. You have a UFC primetime on FOX, but don't let either of them speak. Have it narrated by an american, possibly the guy that announces at monster truck shows. Just show HL videos of them and videos of them hitting the heavy bag and lifting weights in the rain. Everybody in Merica' will tune in for that shit.
Cup Cheick- September 1, 2011 at 7:11 pm
Unless they wanted to give us the gift of Cain vs JDS free. Farfetched I know..
Cup Cheick- September 1, 2011 at 7:09 pm

Get a grip of your keyboard, fucktard. I'm pretty interested to hear about this matchup. I don't see it being ubereem. Although I can't think of a lot of compelling fights either..
noname- September 1, 2011 at 7:05 pm
Never mind my first comment I was a little bit drunk when I said that, now I'm slightly less drunk and I'm calling it: Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle for the fox show!!!
warchief65- September 1, 2011 at 7:02 pm
Brock ? Hell , he can't fight , and he still can't feces right . Oh , I forget , you people love him . Get a grip on reality people . If he fights Reem , out in the first round at 2:13 from the first shot to his " glass jaw " . HAH HAHA HAH ! Next time you see him , it will be on his new series , " Hunting , with , with .... er .... what's his name again ? ??".
Evan Tanner- September 1, 2011 at 4:57 pm
I like Overeem but I'm not sure he would have won the gran prix, and I dont think he can beat a top 5 heavyweight in the ufc
Vovchanchyn Check- September 1, 2011 at 4:36 pm
josh gross is saying that word on the street is lesnar won't be ready by Nov so he's unlikely.
nickyroose- September 1, 2011 at 4:32 pm

Overeem now fighting for the one and only M-1 Global! NOw he too can fight cans for 10+ years to be called the GOAT by anti-Zuffaforce fanboys. Carrying the proud tradition of ducking top talent started by Fedor.
