Dana White’s Announcement: UFC 89 Free on Spike

Never one to miss an opportunity, Dana White announced during last night’s re-broadcast of UFC 84 that UFC 89 will be broadcast for free on Spike TV. The announcement coincided with Elite XC’s Saturday Night Fights presentation on CBS, but we assume that was just a coincidence.

UFC 89 features Michael Bisping and Chris Leben from Birmingham, England on October 18. It also features Thiago Silva and Lyoto Machida. And not a whole lot else at this point. A pay-per-view from England is already a dicey prospect because of the time difference, and the lack of overall star power on the card makes free TV a much better choice.

Keep an eye out during UFC 87 in August, as we expect Elite XC’s Doug DeLuca to get on TV and announce that he is going out for ice cream, and you’re welcome to come along.

Rampage is one of my fav's and I think he lost the fight. I like how everyone is jumping on the anti-Dana bandwagon day after day instead of thinking for themselves. Instead they choose to regurgitate a post some other retard put up two weeks ago. "Poor Rampage" is a fucking idiot. God I'm sick of these dumbasses.

poor rampage...ur a dumbass! first of all learn how to spell, and second of all, how are you gonna say the rampage fight was fixed? because griffin started bleeding and they didnt say anything about it? ur stupid. if forrest isn't bleeding, he's probably not fighting. he has so much scar tissue that a grazing punch will make him bleed. Forrest deserved to win that fight cuz he kicked rampage's ass! Rampage even admitted it after the fight

I just watched the fight again between rampage and griffin and I still say that rampage one, that outcome was so fixed joe rogan knew it when he said in the latter part of round 4 that the good thing is that griffin is winning, that was such bs and then seconds later griffin got rocked, nothing was said griffins face was pouring blood. I really am starting to ffing hate the ufc, affliction fights were good and it was nice to see fedor put a train wreck on sylvia. the ufc can fix the outcome of desicions and fights, dana already changed the score cards on one of the show fights what a f tard.

yeah, i always thought Dana seemed like a decent guy..but i definitely think that he's gotten just a bit too greedy with all the overpriced fight nights. and now that its not just UFC that has people's attention..guess he's gotta throw us a freebie every now and then. although..i agree with ADW too. Leben/Bisping?? really???

I'm down with most any MMA that is on free TV. Bitching about free fights is like bitching about free beer. It might not be your brand you prefer or as cold as you like, but with a price tag like that you really can't complain.

Bootylam! is right... we need to just appreciate the fact that we're getting a free event... even though it IS a piece of shit card and it shouldn't even be a huge announcement that it's gonna be free, and GODDAMMIT I hate Dana White GODDAMMIT!!!!!

I thought all of the UK PPV's were free on Spike on a tape delay and watching live cost money?

That being said im looking forward to some of the fights...

Bisping vs Leben should prove whether Bisping can really cut it.
Can Machida stand upto Thiago Silva's ferocious style.

Can Shane Carwin keep progressing?

You're right in that I wouldn't want to pay for it but some of the undercard fights are pretty nice.

Any card with Bisping and Leben as the main event BETTER be free. Looks like the poor British fans are getting screwed on this one. This isn't a huge announcement by the way... to me, it looks more like EXTREME desperation on Dana's behalf to get some attention for his ego and his crappy attempt to compete with EXC with a freakin' re-run of an old-ass show that we all saw already. Seems like Dana is finally starting to lose it.

ADW is 100% correct. And no Anderson Silva fight could ever be boring. Mark's Right, I guess you just hate technical fighters and want to see jackoffs like Chris Leben swing with their eyes closed. Imagine trying to fight Machida on the street...you wouldn't be able to touch him, and that is much more amazing than some slugger.

Thiago Silva vs. Machida...the only reason its a good fight is because Thiago is going to be reckless in his attempt to KO machida...

if it was Anderson Silva vs. Machida.. it'd be the worst MMA fight of the year (by way of boring).

ill be watching EXC... and tivo the UFC so i can skip to the fights and ignore all their... "Best Fighter in the world, best organization blah blah self rubbing BS"

I am stoked about that Machida and Silva fight. That fight has the potential to be one of the best of the year. The Leben and Bisping fight should not be the headliner, even if it is in England. Leben sucks and Bisping is going to destroy him, which sucks because I hate Michael Bisping...Oh wait I hate Chris Leben even more.
