Dennis Hallman Says the Banana Hammock He Wore Saturday Was the Result of a ‘Lost Bet’

(Cover your kids’ eyes. Superman’s fighting.)

Dennis Hallman says that his choice of in-Octagon attire at UFC 133 was not entirely his fault. It was actually the result of a lost bet to a trio of teammates.

Although he wouldn’t disclose the subject of the wager that led to a rather unfortunate wardrobe malfunction during his fight with Brian Ebersole, he broke the news to Ariel Helwani during today’s MMA Hour of the reason why he went for the European look Saturday night.

“I won’t say what the bet was about, but I lost a bet to those guys and losing the bet meant that I got to wear some speedos,” Hallman explained to Helwani. “I thought it was funny. I thought it was embarrassing for me. Obviously, that’s why I had to do it. But I didn’t think anybody would be cross about it.”

Hallman’s boss, UFC president Dana White, who has since referred to Hallman’s skimpy bikini shorts as “disgusting,” didn’t find the humor in it. In fact, he paid Ebersole an additional $70,000 for sparing the television audience the additional torture of having to see him in the Speedos for two more rounds after he finished Hallman in the first. When asked by Helwani if he was considering firing Hallman for the stunt, White paused for a moment before answering that, if he was fired, it would be “because he lost.” Curious, considering that he is 2-1 in his latest stint with the promotion with wins over Ben Saunders and Karo Parisyan.

Hallman may be a bit too confident that The Baldfather likely won’t cut him loose for the indiscretion.

“I don’t think they’re going to fire you over something like that. I mean, he knows I went in there and fought injured because I didn’t want to screw up their card. You can’t fire somebody for doing something that’s not illegal or not wrong. You can say, don’t do it again. But it wouldn’t be right to be like, okay, you wore legal trunks but I didn’t like them so I’m going to fire you,” ‘Superman’ explained. Dana’s not like that. He might say, if you do it again I’ll fire you, but he’s not going to fire someone for wearing trunks that were legal.”

Oh really? Ask Matt Lindland about wearing clothing that pisses Dana off.

BTW, I will never fight in the UFC, which is good because I would just wear my tattoo.

DW got mad because he didn't want anyone to notice his chubby. And he banned the shorts because he doesn't want it happening again.

dranokills-"Don’t piss off the boss, and don’t lose 3 or more fights in a row and there is no reason to fear Dana White. Dana White can fuck them all over, and they better take it up the ass and ask for a second poke, that is just tough if they don’t like how Dana does things, cause he is the man writing their checks.
Like in real life shut up…..leave, OR get fired, that’s where it stands. The employee doesn’t dictate shit, and it’s always about the $$$$$.
If you don’t grasp that I feel sorry for you."

This man speaks the truth.

I wonder if Hallman's wardrobe choice is related to the fact that Arianny LOVES bananas.

I’ve got to interject noting that while DW has ‘the best interest of the sport in mind,’ you can be sure it’s only as much as he stands to benefit personally. While he isn’t the antichrist, he’s not a philanthropist either. This is the age-old dynamic of labor vs. capital, and it always surprises me how much the average person sides with capital when it comes to putting on a show. Sure, “it’s a business,” but business is only possible under a rule of law that is mutually agreed upon. While XENO may have been wrong about the Hallman case, this doesn’t mean that DW wouldn’t (or hasn’t) tried fucking over his employees when their personal interest crosses his personal interest, which the Lindland case amply demonstrates.

Hey XENO, I just applied Lanchester's Square Law to you in a reasoning competition against thisredengine after he has suffered repeated traumatic brain injuries and has also somehow developed a unique regressive form of Down's syndrome. Even though this equation was not applicable in any way, that seems to be how you prefer to use it.
Needless to say, you lost... even with your exoskeleton and cybernetic implants to help you.

I'm sorry, but this isn't college and t.v. cameras were rolling all over the place. "Friends" who actually hold someone to a bet like that are really "assholes". I feel bad for Hallman if he get's fired for this, I don't think Dana will or should can the guy for that, not after seeing Gono dressing in drag or Koscheck's stupied hair do in the octagon. I got past the speedo about 10 seconds in the fight because the action(what i paid to see) stood out more than what one fighter was wearing. Ebersole has some seriously accurate/effective GnP

Your right, not too bright-White (like his groupies here) are blowing it entirely out of proportion. He should have just laughed like 98% everyone else did.

Had a feeling he lost a bet. & idk what's going on with ccman but that guy needs to get his D wet or something.

i for 1 liked it a lot, damn u CP for sensoring the picture !
Cup Cheick- August 8, 2011 at 6:40 pm
Ccman you are probably right. If I had a dollar for every internet commenter who thought they were a lawyer..

It does get on my nerves the constant kidney shots at the UFC and the assumption that Dana is some MMA demigod hell bent on bending over fighters. It is as we know a business. One that I still believe has the best interest of this sport in mind.
ccman- August 8, 2011 at 5:23 pm
Sorry Cup, fake lawyers annoy me. They think using the word intimidates people. Personally he sounds like a mommas basement kid on a montanan mountain. paranoid and falsly intelligent. Plus, i have learned to be pro UFC over the years mostly because i actually want the sport to continue. and even as Ben and his lackeys try REEEEAAALLLLY hard to discredit whats been ackomplished because they got spanked, no one else can pick up the slack..... no matter how hard Viacom tries.
ccman- August 8, 2011 at 5:15 pm
Dearest CP, we get it, you are mad the UFC spanked you for not following their rules... we GET IT.
Lindland wore Clothing that was banned due to sponsorship conflict. you guys post movie ads, if you posted a competing movie article, like say, during HP week, posted an article about how awesome Iron man was.... what would happen? you would never get a sponsor again. and deservably so. I deal with sponsors all the time, the pay to be exclusive. if Grey goose paid to be exclusive and someone wore a ketel one shirt i would fire them without thinking about it. you got fired, deal with it and re-apply.
Cup Cheick- August 8, 2011 at 5:10 pm
Damnit ccman.. Don't get that idiot going again.

I think Dana is blowing the whole thing WAAAY out of proportion. TUF has shown all kinds of pretty queer behavior... you have the strangeness of people like Seth Petruzelli and his buddies... So Hallman came out wearing Speedos - big deal. Most people where I was watching the fight shook their heads and laughed, and groaned. I thought it was pretty funny. no homo
ccman- August 8, 2011 at 4:39 pm
But, wait... this would kill Xeno's make believe 1st amendment case. Sorry but the capcha and answering on my phone blocked my retort to your mock case/ case history supporting your arguement. since i actually fired up the home comp, i will answer now back there. either way, he apparently knew this was unacceptable... damn you internet for forcing DW haters to not have a federal case that never existed anyway!!!
