(By the end of his war with Kampmann, Diego Sanchez had suffered a split lip, two slashed-up eyes, and a complete loss of body hair.)
According to reports on MMAJunkie and Heavy, the UFC will be holding an event in Omaha, Nebraska, on February 15th, headlined by a promising welterweight contest between Diego Sanchez and Jake Ellenberger. It will be the UFC’s first broadcast on the cable channel FUEL TV as part of the promotion’s new television deal with FOX Networks.
Sanchez has scored decision wins in his last two fights against Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann, both of which earned him Fight of the Night awards. Though his matchup with Ellenberger was originally rumored to take place at UFC 141 on December 30th, Sanchez needed a little more time to recover from a broken hand, which he sustained shortly before his scheduled UFC 135 meeting with Matt Hughes.
As for Ellenberger, the fast-rising contender has knocked off his last five opponents in the Octagon, including KO/TKO wins over Mike Pyle, John Howard, Sean Pierson, and most recently Jake Shields. Ellenberger was born and raised in Omaha, but hasn’t competed in his hometown since 2005. Can Ellenberger’s hometown hero status overcome Sanchez’s power of positivity?
UFC on FUEL 1 is not to be confused with UFC on FX 1 (January 20th, Nashville, headlined by Melvin Guillard vs. Jim Miller), and also not to be confused with UFC on FOX 2 (January 28th, Chicago, possibly featuring Chael Sonnen vs. Mark Munoz). In other words, keeping track of the UFC’s event schedule is going to be a total pain in the ass next year.

Ellenberger landing a haymaker on Shields does not make him a good striker. Power, sure. But Diego will shoot immediately and has a great chin and better cardio. He will blunt big EL in the first, sap all that power and then work for a UD.
Personally I hope Diego gets KTFO'd. Poser.
