Eight Fights, No Boxing: More Details on Nick Diaz’s New Zuffa Contract

Following up yesterday’s bombshell about Nick Diaz‘s October 29th return to the UFC against Georges St. Pierre, USA Today and MMAFighting checked in with Diaz’s manager Cesar Gracie and picked up a couple more details. Here are the brass tacks…

- Diaz has signed a new eight-fight deal with Zuffa, which allows him to fight for both the UFC and Strikeforce. But the plan for Diaz isn’t necessarily to jump back and forth between promotions. Asked if the new deal marked the end of Diaz’s run in Strikeforce, Gracie replied, “Hopefully. If he’s back in Strikeforce, I would imagine that’s because he lost his next fight.”

- Diaz won’t be able to pursue a boxing career while under contract. “He obviously had to be compensated for not boxing and taking this fight instead,” Gracie said. (Points on the pay-per-view, perhaps?)

- There’s still no word on what, if anything, will happen with Diaz’s Strikeforce welterweight title in the aftermath of the GSP fight.

So, will Diaz be able to “play the game” enough to last eight fights under the stricter watch of Dana White and the UFC? Or will it be hospital fights and in-cage riots until he’s eventually booted? Personally, I wouldn’t expect Diaz to suddenly cheer up just because he’s been given everything he’s wanted. Can’t wait to see the next installment of this storyline…

The fight will go first 2 rounds GSP. Last 3 Diaz and I'm feeling a doctor stoppage maybe. GSP will be backing away most of the fight I promise. GSP cannot take punishment to the face. He bleeds and swells up like a little bitch. His cardio isn't as good as Nicks either. Nick is a slow starter but stays at a constant good pace for the whole fight. GSP could win a 3 round fight, but not a 5. GSP's best chance is to leg kick a ton. WAR DIAZ.

As much as I like Diaz, I most certainly do not see him winning this fight.

Based on the fact that GSP didn't attempt to take Kos or Shieldzzz down once, I'm not automatically going to assume he's going tp try and GnP Nick. So if he does believe his standup is up to par and tareds with Diaz, shit's gonna get real with a quickness. I can't even begin to understand the hate for this scrap..

Oh, and "play the game" is Dana's way of saying "be my bitch," but Diaz ain't no man's bitch - on the other hand, Dana is money's bitch, and he knows this fight could possibly out-do the Shieldzzzz vs GSP take.
We'll know Diaz is getting paid enough when we see him smile (not high) and you know that ain't happening.
And I was just thinking, the only person with anything to lose in this fight is GSP - because the only way for him to win this fight is by long drawn out hump death hugging war. And he's losing fans by the bucketful doing that shit. He's seriously this close to officially being one of the most boring fighters out there.

I can't really see Diaz having a chance to beat GSP, but if he were somehow able to pull it off, I really can't imagine him beating GSP twice in the immmediate rematch. And if GSP hasn't earned an immediate rematch to whoever he eventually loses to, I don't know who has.
Either way, I think this means the death of Strikeforce. Other than Overeem, Diaz was the most marketable fighter Strikeforce has, by far. If he wins, he is not going back. If he loses, he goes back as a paper champion, with the most interesting fights for him still in the UFC against their stack of WW contenders.
