Escudero, Nover, Bader, Magalhaes Advance to TUF 8 Finals

Efrain‘s guest blog is going to be a little late this week, but we wanted to get up at least a small post about last night’s TUF double-header so you could discuss it, if you wanted to, in the comments section. Basically, here’s what happened:

Ryan Bader def. Eliot Marshall via boring fucking wrestling
Phillipe Nover def. George Roop via storm/kimura
Vinny Magalhaes def. K-Sos via scary, scary, high-level jiu-jitsu
Efrain Escudero def. Junie Browning via submission (punishment)

Of course, Browning actually competing in his semi-final match was a story in itself. Discouraged by his performance in practice, Browning announced to Frank Mir that he was quitting the competition; Mir had no objection. Back at the house, Browning threw a coffee mug at Shane Primm and started swinging at him. When the dust settled, Dana White stopped by to play psychologist, asked the guys if they wanted to kick Junie off or beat him off — we’d assume that Tom Lawlor voted "beat him off" — and convinced Junie to stay. Oh, and the best part? Junie is going to be on the main card of the TUF 8 finale, solely on the basis of being a ridiculous head-case. (Fittingly, he’ll be fighting Dave Kaplan, the runner-up to Junie’s reality-show dumbass crown.)

For the record, Junie places most of the blame for his loss to Efrain on having awful cardio. As he writes in his final blog entry for UFC.com:

I was so dead. Yes, I heard Frank Mir yelling ‘three’ through the fight. But the thing about conditioning is, it doesn’t mean you’re not listening to a person, but sometimes your body won’t allow you to do it. In my mind, I was like ‘okay, I’m gonna throw three punches,’ and then I was like ‘#$%^, I’m too tired, I can’t throw three punches.’ You can’t tell because I tried to put my game face on, but I was so tired during the fight. In the back, when we were warming up, I had to quit warming up because I was getting tired.

No man, I completely understand why the public would have the opinions that they do, it used to bother me at first and I would try and defend him and end up having the forums all bashing me, so I realize that there is nothing I can say to change peoples POV on the kid. But truth of the matter is if you have seen the kids interviews post show and read even the new interview here, it shows the true him. Not some drunk kentuckian who snaps at the drop of a dime.

Junie is a basket case. He is completely messed up. I think Dana put him in the finale to have him loose and to fuck with his head. Once again, Junie will be proven that he is not the caliber of fighter he thinks he is. REALITY CHECK BITCH!

@ Woddy, look man I respect anyone who fights, but I cant stand anyone who continually makes excuses or blames others for their shortcomings....you mean to tell me people shouldn't be annoyed with this...?...even if he was just playing a role for the cameras he still makes lame ass excuses over and over again blaming others for him loosing...if his cardio was so bad who was holding him back...you can get on a bike or train your cardio by yourself, before that it was "no one will roll with me" prob because you get hot headed and someones afraid you'll fuck up lash out and ruin their chance at fighting at the UFN. I don't blame them, I would do the same. You can't nor anyone else who knows Junie or not can defend his actions, he's been a punk to everyone, even his own teammates whom he sold out, he's made excuses for his own short comings blaming anyone and everything he could besides himself,......doesn't matter if he was like that in KY or not, he's been like that on the show and that's what we're talking about. I look forward to seeing a more deserving humble less self absorbed fighter kicking the ever loving shit out of Junie, he deserves it.

I personally can't stand the way that Junie acts and thinks he acts like a bitch, but he complained more than once on the show about his training. Frank Mir specifically said that he is happy to see Junie leave and that he really hasn't liked him the whole time. I wouldn't be suprised if Junie got the cold shoulder the whole time in trianing on the show, and that would be frustrating. It didn't appear throughout the show that Frank did much coaching other than sit against the wall and BS with the guys. I'm interested to see if he has progressed with XC. and about his attitude, I think there might be some credibility as to what Woody is saying, because i don't imagine XC would put up Junie's crap.

I am more pissed that he is going to be on the main card (i.e. TV time), while a guy like Krzysztof gets no TV time.

I just don't get how he is given so many extra chances. GOOD RIDDANCE!!!

Y.H.M. makes some good points.

Can I pile on and mention the video that was posted here of Junie and his brother being interviewed on a local MMA show? His arrogant nature and claim to urinate excellence?

He does seem to have a track record for abrassive behavior.

Woody: Right on for defending your friend. As a matter of fact, that's what you should be doing and you have my respect.

I'm willing to hold judgement because I know for a fact that a lot of people act completely different once a camera is rolling. While I wouldn't go as far as my Adolescent, Hirsute and Latino friend with soup kitchens and cats in trees, I think there is a curiosity about what Junie is REALLY like. Is it the guy on TV, or someone completely different...

...and why?

You're his friend, you defend him and thats just fine. But saying that he doesn't act like that at home is just unbelievable. Did he suddenly turn into another person on the show? Is he a volunteer at an old folks home or a soup kitchen back home? Maybe a volunteer fireman who saves cute little kittens out of trees perhaps? I just dont buy it. The guy is unstable. For him to come on the show and act like that IN FRONT OF MILLIONS, is beyond stupid to me. Shane didn't even really do much last night on TUF and Junie went berserk. Sorry man, it just doesn't make sense...

I'll buy into the concept that you're the real deal and you know JB.

Answer me this: Why do you think he is acting the way he is? Also, why do say he's working his butt off at XC, but he wanted to drop out of the show?

One other thing: Since you say he signed with TapouT, that would lead me to believe that Junie could actually get into close physical proximity to the TapouT guys. Could you please ask him to kick all three of them in the nards really hard? Thanks! That would make my day!

Bader is going to beat Vinnie. They are both one dimensional but Bader will KO him on the feet. Vinnie is too afraid to get hit to throw a punch. I think he threw two against Krislowkiopopolis. Bader knows how insane Vinnie's BJJ is and he won't even shoot on Vinnie or get close enough that he can pull guard.

Vinny's BJJ looks really smooth, but I wonder how it would be against a guy who knows better how to defend against that, as well as someone who can keep it on the feet. Vinny won't be able to get Bader onto the ground nearly as easily, even if he is pulling guard.

Speaking of Bader's "boring fucking wrestling," I think Elliot deserves some of the blame for this. Sure Bader took him down plenty, but if a solid BJJ black belt like Elliot wants to simply hold you in their guard, well... there isn't a lot you can do. If Elliot isn't trying to get up, and isn't trying for any submissions (which he wasn't), then he can just keep you in his guard all day. Bader definitely has a lot of room to improve, and can certainly learn to improve position better, but a lot of the blame falls on Elliot for this one.

OK so most of you know from my previous posts that I'm a really good friend of Junie and have tried to argue with people, but it's just not worth it. lol. Anyways, no Junie hasn't posted on here, he does read the boards but doesn't post. Also speaking with him yesterday he has been training his ass off at XC getting ready for his fight against Kaplan, also just signed with TapOut. Like I said before I give you my gods honest word that Junie is nothing at all like he has been acting on the show. Obviously you guys would have every reason to call him all the names you have because of his actions, but I for one am here to wish him the best of luck at the finale. And for what it's worth anyone in the Lexington area we're having his coming home party at The Saddle Ridge the following Thursday night.

What's up OBI? I read this shit. None of these turkeys could even hang with me. So fuck all of yall. I'm still training hard now at Xtreme Couture for my fight with Dave Kaplan. I'm still getting regularly subbed by Gina Carano and Kim Couture. I'm still not allowed near Randy and I cannot look Jay Hieron in the eyes, but I'm working my way up the ladder. I'm hoping one day that I can stop having to disinfect the mats everyday... oh and that I can stop getting subbed by Kim and Gina.

The only reason I can think of that Junie did not get kicked off earlier
was because he had so much talent and ability that we would all be amazed at the end. WRONG!!! Just another loud mouthed punk.
