Anderson Silva at X-Gym – Watch more Funny Videos
I know. At first, you’re like “Whoa, CagePotato scored an interview with Anderson Silva in English? This is historic!” And then you’re like, “oh.” CP’s Brazilian correspondent Brian D’Souza does his best, but it’s hard not to be disappointed when Anderson is fed a question about a potential superfight with Georges St. Pierre, and responds by saying that while GSP is the best welterweight in the world, BJ Penn is the best fighter in the world. (Does that mean he’d rather fight Penn? Aloha, brother.) Also: His training for Vitor Belfort is going well, moving back to light-heavyweight is not his decision, and Team Nogueira is more like Family Nogueira. Now let’s never speak of this again…

commentsAnd Brian, don't be scurred homie, go ahead and put your arm around him! So you can be family!
On the BJ thing, I just can't stand the guy, so I am admittedly biased. But even more, I can't stand his unreasonable fans. If he loses - excuses. Injuries, motivation, cheating, too small for the weight class, etc. Motivation is not an excuse, it is a weakness in his mental game. When he loses to Hughes, it is because he injured his rib midway through, and would have easily won otherwise. Well, GSP might have smashed him in their first fight if he hadn't gotten a broken nose early on. That isn't an excuse. It is a fight, and the other guy is trying to injure you. I don't care that much about rankings lists, but I still find it annoying when he loses again and again, and is still near the top of all of these lists. Everyone seems to rank BJ where they wish he would be if he came motivated, in shape, etc, and not where his actual accomplishments should place him. And this wouldn't bother me as much if he weren't granted title shot after title shot throughout his career based on this reputation, not on accomplishments. Tell me which title shot in BJ's career he has really deserved? Maybe the first one at LW. That's about it. As much as I hate Fitch's fighting style, he has deserved more title shots than BJ.
As for BJ, meh, I have a couple buds who are rank nuthuggers so I've been on your side plenty of times. I do argue he is top 10 though. I want to see his fight versus Fitch to commit anymore than that.
Force stereo sound, bro. Force stereo sound.
@ Dazed - both Fitch and Alves dwarfed GSP, and could easily fight at MW right now. Both had at least 10-15 pounds on him.
And I don't think you could say that BJ would be the best fighter in the world if he were motivated, in shape, or whatever. First, he is mentally weak, and quits when he gets frustrated. Second, he never has great cardio. So to me, that is like saying if so-and-so only had awesome wrestling and striking, they would be the best. Mental strength and cardio are huge parts of this game. If you don't have them, and have them consistently, then you aren't all that great.
Pretty much the reason why I think a motivated, well trained BJ, could destroy anyone in 155 or 170 on a good day. Too bad he hasn't been motivated or well trained for a lot of his fights.
2. As per usual, and regarding Silva's mastery of English, between two sides of the story lies the truth.
Hughes- 5'9
BJ- 5'9
Fitch- 6'0 (but skinnier)
Trigg- 5'10
Koscheck- 5'10
It's all guys around his height and reach (some even less). It's a lot easier out boxing and shooting for guys comparable to your own size. That's why weight classes were invented durrr
Fear? Come on guys.
I believe this fight would be exciting and record breaking but some people are a bit delusional here. I really see no way that GSP can win. Anderson is about 4 inches taller and 20-25 pounds heavier come fight night. I know GSP will move up in weight but Anderson can fight at 205 and look no smaller than Forrest Griffin. That's a huge guy. His length on the ground will cause problems and sub attempts as will his nasty elbows off his back, his unorthadox striking and reach will kill GSP, as will his knees and clinch if GSP tries to close the distance.
I'm not a Silva nut hugger, I admire GSP's career a little more I'd say, but Silva is better at 185 and it would be a dominant performance.
GSP knows that Silva can knock him out easily and Silva knows that GSP can do the exact same thing that Sonnen did...except getting caught in a submission.
I guarantee if DW starts pushing for GSP to move up in weight, Silva will become a permanent 205er.
