Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

F*ck It, Affliction’s Cancelled

Fedor Emelianenko
(In retrospect, the search for possible replacement opponents was getting ridiculous.)

We can all stop speculating and arguing over who should replace Josh Barnett against Fedor Emelianenko on next Saturday’s Affliction: Trilogy fight card.  That’s because there isn’t going to be an Affliction: Trilogy fight card, says’s Josh Gross.  Apparently Tom Atencio and Co. just decided to go the cut-our-losses route and called the whole thing off.  Fighters were notified this morning, or at least their representatives were, since fighters don’t typically get up before 11 am.  This morning though, they may have jolted out of bed with the strange, unpleasant feeling you get when a bunch of money has just slipped out of your grasp.

Looks like our Saturday night just freed up for next weekend.  Anyone want to go bowling or something?

What a great moment in MMA history!

Now the UFC will have fighters like The Grimm and The Phenom in their ranks.

Hmmm...Can the Grimm fight Lesnar? :p

>>> (And then you woke up from your dream.....and saw Fedor on his back with a vacant look on his face saying 'WTF happened?' and Brock talking trash to the Camera and spitting on it)

good for you xelance, use it to pay for the next GREAT UFC PPV, and stop being a bitch cause UFC is the best.
Dana White is looking into signing fedor, we will see once again if hes man enough to step up or be a joke for the rest of his life. Fedor NEEDS the UFC more than you think.

why dont I try to get a job??? When the fuck did I bring up my current job status into this conversation? Chill out fool. Why dont you try to make some sense with your posts instead of just hugging on Dana Whites nuts? Fedor is the best heavyweight in MMA PFP, he doesnt need your approval. His record and reputation speaks for itself. Why else would Dana and ALL of MMA fans want Fedor so bad? Probably to shut clueless people up like you. You dont need to talk to me about getting a job, I have one, thank you.

Just like the company you put all your faith into, ASSfliction was destined to be a failure, and you are dumbass loser poser who doesn't know jack shit about business, much like Tom Attencio.
I for one hope that FADER fades away, he is to stupid to be in the UFC. You will notice in the coming weeks that NONE of the fighters will be bitching because they understand business and will be happy to have a secure job.
Why don't you try getting a job kid instead of talking shit about things you have no clue about.
If it wasn't for Dana White and the UFC your dumbass would still be watching boxing feeling like you were missing something.

affliction is done. posted from" After promoting two critically acclaimed but financially disastrous mixed martial arts cards, Affliction on Friday first canceled its pay-per-view card scheduled for Aug. 1 and then opted to get out of the promotional business.

Affliction released a statement Friday evening in which it announced “a collaboration with the UFC.” It confirmed that it will cease operations as a fight promoter and that its clothing division will become a UFC sponsor.

“Our brand is synonymous with the ‘Live Fast’ approach to life and UFC is the perfect venue for us to market our brand. We have come to an agreement with the UFC which we feel will be the best for the sport and will help the UFC continue delivering the highest caliber of fights.” said Eric Foss, co-founder of Affliction.

Affliction had a card slated for Aug. 1 with a main event of Fedor Emelianenko, the No. 2 fighter in the Yahoo! Sports mixed martial arts rankings, against former UFC champion Josh Barnett at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

But Barnett tested positive for an anabolic steroid and on Tuesday was denied a license to fight by the California State Athletic Commission.

That left Affliction scrambling to find a replacement for Emelianenko. With no viable alternatives – the best was former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort, who was already down to 195 pounds for a scheduled middleweight fight – Affliction early Friday opted to scrap the show.

Later in the day, Affliction came to terms on a deal with the UFC in which it would quit promoting fight cards. The UFC is likely to absorb the contracts of all Affliction fighters except Emelianenko.

Emelianenko’s contractual status is not known, though UFC president Dana White said Friday he is trying to negotiate a deal with the Russian.

Multiple sources had indicated to Yahoo! Sports that Affliction was on the verge of a deal with Strikeforce for some sort of merger, but that fell apart in the last 24-48 hours. That’s when talks began anew between White and Affliction. They had spoken earlier in July about such a scenario, but were unable to come to a deal.""

What a fucking joke, fuck Dana White. UFC is a total monopoly and it sucks to have shit like this happen because of that! I was looking forward to seeing Fedor fight, and now of course this plays right into the hand of Dana to get him into UFC. Screw that shit.

The reason Attencio canceled instead of going ahead is elemenart business economics. Its a concept called Sunk Cost.

The money they've spent promoting this card and even building the franchise is SPENT. Its gone, never coming back. The money they would spend to put on this show-- tv airtime, fighter salaries, broadcast crew, and more-- has not been spent yet.

Let's say they are 5 mil in the hole right now. Let's say because of this Barnett issue, they expect their ppv sales and live gate to take a major hit, and won't cover the fighter salaries and other costs. Remember, Fedor alone makes 1+ mil per fight.

So if the choice is losing 5 mil or losing 8 mil, I pick 5. The first 5 million is already lost, its sunk cost. People do stupid shit all the time because they don't think about money this way, throwing good money after bad.

the fight has been cancelled. I got tickets to this fight from the honda center box office, and they just called me to notify me that it has been cancelled. There is no replacement for Barnett, and yes, this marks the end of Affliction. Fedor should be going to UFC shortly. Im pretty mad...but well what can you do? At least I get my damn refund, so that makes me a LITTLE happy...just pretty pissed Im not going as this would be my first live MMA fight. Shit happens...but yes it IS cancelled and was confirmed by the honda center rep that called me. They lost a ton of money...

Motherfuckyou, Barnett!

I'm down for bowling
Chiggs- July 24, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Dont think it so much Tom giving up and saying F it as apparently its Showtime pulling the plug on the whole thing due to Barnett being pulled off the card. Not much else he could do really, guess maybe say screw the PPV broadcast an hope he can market it afterwards in DVD or something else ontop of the livegate, either way sucks but Im not blaming Atencio in any way shape or form. Barnett on the other hand....F him.
Chiggs- July 24, 2009 at 12:45 pm
Fuckity fuck fuck. Well at least theres preliminary talks on having some of the bouts go down on M1 Globals event at the end of Aug. and perhaps on the Strikeforce card. Hell jus say Fack it now that Oveerem hasnt defended since winning it an either strip him or bring on an interim belt and have Fedor smash Werdum for criss sakes, throw in Belfort an Gomi an I'll be happy again. Also someone should punch Barnett right in the face for screwing the shit outta everything :/ Facking To beggar better not end up in the UFC ANYTIME soon, let alone ever or he was in on the take dammit!!!

affliction |??flik sh ?n|
something that causes pain or suffering

Appropriate on so many levels and interchangeable with "Barnett".

I feel sorry for all the other fighters on the card that lost a payday from the fuck up of one.
Stardum- July 24, 2009 at 12:31 pm
Well it looks like Tom Atencio better be stepping up to fight Fedor ASAP!
JPfighter- July 24, 2009 at 12:28 pm
I have to agree with the comments regarding Tom Atencio. Seems like he is finally giving up, and has lost the balls to keep things moving forward. If Affliction lives or dies based on fucking Josh Barnett, then it was all a house of cards to begin with, and now it has fallen. I mean, Vitor wouldn't have been my first choice to see fight Fedor, but hell, I would still watch that fight, simply out of the morbid curiosity to see if Vitor could pull a horseshoe out of his ass. And besides Vitor, Brett Rogers was ready to step in. Affliction was already in debt, so why bail out one week before the event? Makes no sense whatsoever. Talk about a clusterfuck. Between Barnett's stupidity and Atencio's ball shrinkage, this is one shitty situation. And in the end, the fans lose and the fighters lose bigtime. If Atencio had any balls left, he would have held a press conference with Fedor and Vitor, made it seem like an epic battle, and keep this shit going. Then, he should have met with all the fighters to tell them that he is sticking behind them, no matter what, and will fight for the survival of the promotion and for the livelihoods of all the fighters in Affliction. I'm not saying that Affliction would necessarily have a long-term future, but shit, this was a pussy move. Atencio thought that by stepping into the ring and fighting an MMA match that he proved what a bad-ass he is. Well today, Atencio proved what a pussy he is. And the fighters have worked their asses off in training camp, to squeek by on little money, and now won't see their payday.
NECROPHYTE- July 24, 2009 at 12:25 pm
goddamn amateurs. Affliction should stick to dressing douche bags when they have no more Ed Hardy shirts to wear. Tom Atencio, you fkn tar baby.
ByrneDout- July 24, 2009 at 12:15 pm
Wow, I really can't believe that Tom Atencio is backing down literally without a fight! You need to do this fight still, otherwise Affliction is over. Set up a fight, if someone beats Fedor it's epic, Fedor wins it predicted, either way you shouldn't just role over and take it. There was a time when I honestly thought Tom Atencio had some balls and was a fighter, now he just rolls over when he faces adversity. Don't you train? Where is your fighter spirit? Where is you heart? Giving up now! That is a very chump like thing to do. But I guess that sums you up then.

Anyways I hope you prove me wrong.

I was reading a book on MMA recently and a college wrestling coach who was before that an amazing wrestler and now just creates amazing wrestler has a saying it is Beyond Beyond.

Go Beyond what you think you can do, go Beyond the competition,

Affliction definition: Something hard to bear physically or emotionally.
