I agree with robosapiens as well.
I believe that Ali did this with the Spinks fight when Ali lost with 8:1 odds.
Came back to crush Spinks and regain the title for the 3rd time with ease.
Yes, it's all about the money, and this fight was to make Fedor and his managers rich. He's set now. Watch him come back to kick some major ass. No way that Fedor stumbled into a double submission unintentionally. And btw, I'm not a big Fedor worshipper.
You really let you're knowledge shine on that one, especially the part about how they will bet on Fedor next time and make even more money because he will be the underdog. You have such a brilliant grasp of mma and gambling.. because you know every time a fighter loses he's automatically a big underdog the next time they fight...
Like Serra in his rematch with GSP.. wait GSP was favored.. like Bj Penn and Frankie Edgar.. wait BJ is still favored to win the rematch..
Idiot..
I'd also like to know why you think everyone in the world was betting on Fedor. If you ask around here you will probably find a lot more people that bet on Werdum, considering you could actually make some money. Why would I even bother risking a 100$ bet on Fedor to win like 5$? I'd rather bet 5 on Werdum for a chance to win a 100.. I don't know what the actual numbers are that's just an exmaple.
Hmmmm? So apparently even if you beat him you get a title shot against the Strikeforce Champ but he still gets to keep the M1 title. They should have given him that belt for beating him . Then unify it during the reem fight .
Actually, someone acquited on a technicality is 'not guilty', which is different than 'innocent'. Hell, even being acquited by a jury doesn't even mean that you're innocent. I'm certain OJ could back me up on that. Hopefully he will chime in, if he has internet access.
On the matter of Fedor's record, I'll come down in the middle on that debate. A loss is a loss on the record books, and ten years later it really doesn't matter. On the other side, if THIS loss had been by a lucky cut on the eyeball by some freak sharp edge of the glove (ala Couture/Belfort) in the first minute, I don't think as many people would be saying 'TOLD YOU!!!' about Fedor, either.
Why? What is it listed in the record books as? A loss, so therefore it is a loss. It may have been on a technicality but it is still a loss. If someone is found innocent on the basis of a technicality they are still innocent, same goes for a loss.
im going with robosapiens post. it makes the most sense other than fedor really did have an insanely retarded lapse of judgment which i guess is just as possible.
The part about the Russian bookies is a good point, I know very little about betting in Russia, but I do know there are many options to place bets and receive payouts. Before the fight I told my friends it made sense to me that he would lose quick and without injury to a guy who would still show him the utmost respect, and when he would have one fight left on his contract to avenge his loss. Of course it is speculation, this is a comment board where we share our thoughts.
While I like the theory that Vadim got Fedor to take a dive, I find it hard to believe. My fiancee is Russian so I know what you are saying could very well be true... however, one thing you never want to do is fuck with Russian mob bosses. Methinks the only way this could have been pulled off would be for Vadim to be betting with non-Russian bookies. Really, does it make sense to risk your families health/life to throw a fight and make a killing in the payout when you will likely lose your life or someone you love's life in the process? I don't think so.... too far fetched. On a smaller scale, sure - we all know his little brother just fought a guy who took an obvious dive, but on this level? - no fuckin' way.
So unless you can somehow prove/provide some evidence that Fedor/Vadim/M-1 set this up as a fix then it is just speculation.
@ Robosapiens - You honestly think that this was the fight they decided to take a dive and win a bunch of money? Every fight Fedor has, he is a huge favorite and his opponent is a big underdog. If you are right, then he is probably retiring and this was the Last Emperors last payday.
@ roughouse It's not the fact that he lost a fight, he's still a good fighter, its just that he got exposed for having so many hand picked fights that had he been fighting legit fighters, he would probably have a few more losses under his belt. All this does is strengthen the UFC brand. Werdum now has wins over Overeem and Fedor yet isnt good enough to hang in the UFC. If Fedor wants to save face and actually prove that he is as good as people think, his only option now is to go to the UFC, man up and take some tough fights. It will be interesting to see what god tells him.
Oh, and why wouldnt Werdum celebrate? He just beat the best heavyweight of all time ever in any galaxy
Thank you robosapiens, I knew I could not be the only one who saw the benefits of Fedor taking a dive into not one but two submissions in the first round. Lots of rich Russians today if you ask me. What actually caused the tap besides money, was it the triangle choke, or the arm bar? By the way I thought this before the fight started.
I think the "dethroned champion" comment comes from the WAMMA title, which IIRC M-1 said would be on the line for Fedor no matter the fight.
Definitely Fedor's biggest mistake was getting involved with M-1 (zomg M is just W upside-down, W....W....'W'ERDUM! We should've seen this coming!). I'm sure UFC will still go after Fedor, but M-1 better not be expecting larger offers or acceptence of cross-promotion now.
Haha I was thinking the same thing. But remember Couture is on the cover too. So maybe Lights Out will knock his ass out and make us all shit our pants again.
I laugh when people think this is bad for Fedor's chances to get in the UFC. Without the stupid stadium in Russia/co-promotion bullshit, he might actually work out a contract this time around.
"WOW!" Good luck negotiating with the UFC now... Fedor needs to tell M1 Global to f**k off and get serious about his future in MMA. No Fedor vs Overeem... Sad. Fedor NEEDS to go to the UFC. A lot of interesting match ups to be made... Lets hope so. Fedor is still the man. All warriors lose eventually.
I hate the announcers, the champion loses, Fedor is not the Strikeforce champion and Fedor suffers his first loss, actually his second I know the first one was garbage but a loss is a loss.
So, Fedor finally lost. Yes, FINALLY. He has lost 2 fights...EVER...and the first lost was a doctor stoppage, so can you really say its the end of anything other than a win streak? Fuck everybodys got to lose 1 or 2. Look at how many Randy Couture has lost? You got no right to talk shit about Fedor losing 2 fights EVER when that is half as many fights as your heavyweight champ has ever had.
BTW, Werdum looked like a fucking douchebag jumping over the cage to "celebrate."
You are a retard. It distracts you from what is actually meaningfull, yet all things are senseless. So you are saying that no matter what you believe in, it's meaningless and senseless? Stop smoking weed and making posts. You are retarded.
This is only trivial sporting entertainment. Like most of the petty endeavors humanity embarks upon it is essentially meaningless and impermanent. I view this entertainment in an attempt to pass time in a state of mental preoccupation giving my mind a rest from the burden of despising every aspect of human life. Like all things in the material universe it lacks any semblance of meaning or truth beyond a subjective perspective of what is actually meaningful. Like all things it is senseless. Like all things it is fleeting and impermanent. I find it a worthwhile distraction as I await the only true and absolute force in the known universe: dissipation.
I am from Russia, I am Russian,I love Fedor but I have a different outlook on this match:
It's all a money game at the end of the day, a business so to speak. We all knew what the odds of payout were if Fedor lost to tonight. Anyone who plays chess will understand this. If Manager did bet against Fedor tonight he successfully secured his retirement fund along with Fedor's.
Fedor is going to have a re-match with Werdum in Russia and will beat him to make even more money from bookies because the odds are going to be against him next time. As of right now , I am SURE Vadim Finkelstein is collecting millions from bookies world - wide that are biting his fists tonight after the fight. The whole world bet for Fedor to win and Vadim Finkelsteint knew this. This is a typical boxing betting scheme or as we call it a match that was " set up ".
Fedor does not give a shit about media or how they are going to talk about his loss, all he cares about is his family. He secured his retirement fund today and so did Mr. Finkelstein.
Welcome to the Russian way of doing business America o_O
fedor hasnt faught anyone on a decent winning streak with a decent amount of experience in a long time. he mightve gotten overconfident with werdum but a good fighter would know better so that cant be it. but if it wasnt that then he must not have seen the possible (2nd) arm bar/ triangle attempt but a good fighter shouldve seen it. his explanation is that it was gods will.....really?
i guess Fedor is total shit now, just like GSP after losing to Serra or BJ Penn after losing to Edgar. also whoever loses the Lesnar / Carwin fight will be total shit and will never be heard from again. am i understanding how mma works yet?
You're right. Dana saw a guy who was 2-2 in the UFC. He sat him down and said "Wurdum...The 7-2 pocket is a full house. I repeat, the 7-2 pocket is a full house." Wurdum then went into the world as the ultimate Manchurian candidate. Waiting two years for his orders, he sat patiently. Knowing that Dana White pulled Fedor's TapouT sponsorship was all the confirmation he needed. He layed low in the pocket letting Fedor punch him about the face, lulling him into a sense of complacency before baiting him into his guard. Then it was all over. The end of Fedor, the end of Strikeforce, the end of competition.
Now, somewhere around Stockton, Nick Diaz awaits his orders.
There are two rules in this world: you don't jump into bed with Cris Santos expecting a leisurely lay and you DON'T JUMP INTO THE GUARD OF A BJJ BLACK BELT IF YOU'RE RUSSIAN!
I said this earlier this afternoon but i'm reiterating it:
Conspiracy Theory of the day:
Dana White cut Fabricio on purpose knowing he would get snatched by Strikeforce immediately. If he beats Fedor, the only real names SF can leverage off of are Overeem and Cyborg, but lets face it, theres way more appeal to watching cyborg fight in the WEC than there is to watching her fight other women. If Fabricio loses, not a big deal he's supposed to anyways, but if he wins, the UFC has a real claim to crushing Fedors image. Its not like Fabricio deserved to get cut from the UFC compared to some of the other HW's. Brandon Vera and Gonzaga (Both beaten by Fabricio) are both hanging around with similar or worse records as of late. But the plot thickens... Fedor loses, immediately realizing he has become soft over the last few years and that taking the safe route with M-1 goes against his true ways he will smash the faces of all M-1 execs and retreat back to Russia. No Ice cream, no sweaters, just nature and a sledge hammer accompanied by a sick montage. With his Russian rage released he will then demand to fight for the UFC and prove that the wraith of Fedor is real. Upon hearing Fedor is back and just crushed Lesnar, Overeem gives Coker a flying knee and then bounces to the UFC where Fedor no longer has to adhere to the will of M-1 and can fight him. Coker gets craddled back to consciousness by Cyborg and they fall in love. Evangalista breathes a sigh of relief as Cristiane had said that if he ever broke her heart she would eat his while he watched.
I'm just saying, maybe the first part is a little far fetched but could anyone actually want to wake up next to Cristiane Cyborg's mug in the morning?
Ok I wanna be the first to say. Yes he lost for the first time in ten years, however in the past six years who has he fought thats been on any level of preperation or level of competition that could do it? Seriously? Lets give some more excuses He has enough footage out there it was bound to happen.
1: My winnings for your fight surpassed my losses on the Cyborg fight (Don't hate the line was +750, it was worth a shot)
2: For fixing this Fedor #1 p4p/Heavyweight BS that is (or should I say WAS) all over the interwebs
3: For single handedly destroying M-1 Global.
4: For proving SF's ignorance when it comes to promoting fights (Cyborg vs Carano only Carano was promoted, Hendo vs Shields only Hendo was promoted and finally Fedor vs Werdum only Fayoodor Amillionankles was promoted)
My buddy and I discussed this. Look at how Fedor has behaved and the decisions he's made with politics and so on...it almost seems like Fedor WANTED to throw that right. The Fedor we know and respect would not have entered a fight as recklessly as he did had he no longer cared and wanted a way out.
I see two outcomes here...one, he signs with UFC if he really did lose while using all his ability. Two, he retires MMA after giving what a lot of the UFC nuthuggers wanted and goes full on into politics and does whatever he desires for Russia.
I sat there, even when he first went into his reckless abandon, holding my drink jaw WIDE open screaming in my head "WTF ARE YOU DOING" as he not only put himself in a bad position and temporarily got out of it, but continued to sit in that same position and seemingly allowed himself to get tapped.
Idk what happened tonight guys...but I personally don't like it. =\
Oh no! The guy lost once now in ten years, call the mortuary and put him on suicide watch. I'm sure his career is over!
I'm hoping this is the best thing that ever happens to Fedor. I hope this is what it takes to re-light his fire and make him clear a swath of destruction right back to the top. He should start by kicking Ubereem's ass, then he can take it from there.
