if tim beats fendor then he should be ranked high. tim might not be the greatest fighter in the world but he has proven that he can fight. he beat andre not once but twice when he seemed unbeatable. fedor is ranked num 1 with out having fought a top ranked guy in a while, why give him so much hype? sure he did a lot before but so did rua and he lost to forrest. not taking anything from forrest. anyone who beats fedor should be consider a top ranked fighter if not number 1 at hw.

I am firmly against the idea of WAMMA, but if they must have belts, what I meant is that they should just award belts to all of their #1 ranked fighters in all divisions as ranked by WAMMA, which Fedor would clearly be if he beats Sylvia. Fedor's claim to be #1 would be hard to dispute at that point, whereas if Sylvia wins, I don't think most would see him as #1, thus undermining WAMMA's legitimacy.

the difference is that if Fedor wins the belt will have some vague sense of legitimacy and if Tim wins the belt will end up with shart stains.

I completely understand your concerns about WAMMA, and I've expressed similar ones before. However I don't see how just giving a belt to Fedor if he wins would be any better. If you acknowledge that Fedor would deserve a belt for beating Tim and generally being the top-ranked heavyweight, then wouldn't Tim deserve it for beating Fedor? Doesn't beating the man make you the man?

First off, I have never been a fan of the idea of ading sanctioning bodies to MMA. They have an awful track record in boxing, and I can't imagine what good they can do for MMA.

More to the point, if WAMMA wants to be taken seriously, how can it create a belt for this fight. What if Tim Sylvia wins? He would have lost recently to Randy Couture and Noguiera, yet a win against Fedor makes him the #1 fighter in the world according to WAMMA.

So does that mean WAMMA is just going to pretend Couture and Nog don't exist, kinda like Dana White pretends Fedor doesn't exist? In my mind, this totally undermines the credibility of the organization as it is desperately trying to vye for credibility. It would have simply been smarter to have not disclosed the belt, and just awarded Fedor the belt if he pulls out the likely victory. I would accept that. But the idea that Tim Sylvia is even up for the belt of a sanctioning committee tells me you can't take them seriously if they want oversight of the rankings and eventually match-makings in MMA.

On a side note, I appreciate the full-disclosure on your being a part of WAMMA. That is a lot better than I can say for Caplan, who seems to think he is above disclosure of any sort, while he shamelessly plugs EliteXC while cashing checks from both ProElite and CBS.

I dont think having a WAMMA belt is a bad idea. I dont think its a great idea.

Urijah is the best runt weight fighter in the world. Sure, its a minor league organizations belt but it still means something to him and to the people who follow him.

With over a dozen MMA organizations in the world and the loss of the big one last year, one belt more or less makes no difference.

I pay to see good cards with reputable fighers, I dont care about their belts or what organization they fight for.
Name me one card this year that is better (on paper) than Affliction or the DREAM cards? Whether they get a belt, a trophy or a Jenna lovedoll, will in NO WAY affect how this card turns out.

I don't know why but adding a WAMMA title seems to reduce the coolness of this fight for me.
Also, anything that sounds even remotely like YAMMA can't be a good thing and tends to trigger my gag reflex.
