Fedor Talks Fight With Henderson, His Slimmer Physique and Retiring When God Tells Him To

(Video courtesy of AOL/MMAFighting)’s Ariel Helwani caught up with former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko to get his thoughts on a number of topics, not least of which being his upcoming Strikeforce bout with Dan Henderson on Saturday night.

According to “The Last Emperor,” although there was much talk about him walking away from MMA after back-to-back losses, he will only retire when it’s God’s will and not a minute before. Hopefully God doesn’t speak to him mid-match Saturday night like he did Paulo Filho during his last bout with Chael Sonnen.

When asked by Helwani to name any weaknesses he thought Henderson has, Fedor said he doesn’t think he has any and although he says that he has slimmed down a bit since his last fight with Antonio Silva, his weight is basically the same.

Here’s another vid of Fedor working out in Chicago yesterday:

Helwani, best in the business. He really wants that sweater.

Am I the only one who thinks Fedor has been looking irritated and all around tense in the interviews leading up to this fight? Just look at his eyes in the clip above. He's not his normal mellow self. But rather than being unfocused and nervous, I think it's because he's just got this fiery, hellbent desire not to drop another fight. Looks like he's been training a lot harder for this one than his last fights judging from the open workout-clips.

Fedor IS Buddha - at least in mma. He's amazingly consistent throughout all these years in how he conducts himself - does he REALLY not care about Zuffa buying Strikeforce - he says it's not his care, he just fights. I ... believe him! Or I hope to anyway, and not have my ideals that there are beautiful people int he world who are honest not crushed, giving rise to cynicism.

I remember reading an article on questions you should never ask a fighter by Ben or Mike and there was something about not asking a fighter what he thought his opponents biggest weakness was....Ariel still has game though right...come on CP you gotta call him out on that shit no?

Fedor was as good as everyone said... he dominated everyone. Maybe his time off from top competition and his undefeated record caused him to become complacent. Maybe those losses were exactly what he needed to get motivation and step it up. Time will tell.

Can't wait for all the bandwagon mother fuckers to jump back on Fedor's nuts. This dude's the real deal, he is gonna win this fight, and decisively! But what do I know, I also think Stann is gonna beat Chael. 1. Stann 2. Jones 3. Fedor 4-eva

So he's the same weight and slimmed down. QED: he gained some muscle mass and lost the fat.
joshuan29- July 28, 2011 at 3:26 pm
just from those pics posted the last 3 days theres no way the last emperor weighs basically the same. hell he looks like he has lost 15lbs of cheek fat! if he really does weigh 225 or so and has all that spring in his step, look out! fedor by rear naked rape round 2

Helwani better be careful with his wild demands for fighters' sweaters. People get slapped for a lot less, supposedly.
Blak302- July 28, 2011 at 12:40 pm
Lets calm down and see if he can get a win first before we start talking about a championship...
Goat- July 28, 2011 at 12:36 pm
I'm pretty sure God has it in his contract with Fedor that he HAS to win this fight if he wants to keep The Sweater of Absolute Victory. Hence Fedor taking his training to a new level.

In all seriousness - this Fedor looks even BETTER than the Fedor that knocked the stuffing out of Tim Sylvia. Could he be back on the Championship path??

Looks like Ariel has slimmed down some, too. I guess Rampage really did scare the crap out of him.
