Fedor vs. Bigfoot Reported for January Strikeforce Meeting, Overeem vs. Lashley Rumored for Dynamite!!

(Oh yeah. The person who made this wallpaper just *gets it*.)

After months of negotiations between Strikeforce and Fedor Emelianenko‘s useless management company, the Last Emperor may finally have a return date. According to MMA Weekly, Emelianenko will face fellow heavyweight contender Antonio Silva at a yet-unannounced January 29th Strikeforce event. It will be Emelianenko’s first fight since his shocking submission loss to Fabricio Werdum in June. Silva also dropped a fight to Werdum last November, but has posted wins over Andrei Arlovski and Mike Kyle since then. Emelianeko is already 1-0 against fighters with acromegaly.

The January 29th event is expected to take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, and will allegedly feature the return of Herschel Walker, and — get this — the third meeting between Jason Miller and Tim Kennedy, now that the trash talk between Miller and Nick Diaz has officially reached a stalemate, with neither fighter willing to leave their weight class.

But enough about non-freak-show fights. Let’s get to the good stuff…

The rumor coming out of Japan is that Strikeforce heavyweight champion/brand-new K-1 Grand Prix champion Alistair Overeem will be booked to face 5-1 former WWE star Bobby Lashley at Dynamite!! 2010 on New Year’s Eve. Holy shit is that irresponsible. It’s the kind of matchup that makes you wish Strikeforce had their guys under exclusive contracts, because no way would that fight ever get made in the States. You’d sort of hope that Overeem would have better things to do with his time than beat the tar out of an outmatched opponent in an MMA fight, but I guess that’s kind of his thing now.

Among the new matchups being announced for Dynamite!!: Ikuhisa "Minowaman" Minowa will take on 3-1 Japanese judo champion Hiroshi Izumi, Gegard Mousasi will face Japanese kickboxing star Kyotaro in a K-1 rules match, and Hayato Sakurai will meet Jason High.

Im down to see Fedor v. Bigfoot, of course mike kyle exposed the big man's chin, so we probably know how that fight is gonna turn out.

If Alistair is fighting lashley its a huge waste of time, so im hoping its valentine.

And we all know SF's last card was a barrage of mismatches.
fatbellyfrank- December 17, 2010 at 5:55 pm
If its really Alistair Overeeem v Bobby lashley we may get our first MMA related death here, surely no-one could make such a cluster fuck of a match up? it borders on criminal negligence if its true

The UFC is notorious for underpaying their fighters, thus not being able to sign all fighters. If other organizations have to put up matches that are more exciting then so be it. I don't remember being excited about a UFC card for quite some time now. All they do is create fancy hype videos and say they have the best fighters. But they can't put together exciting fights like Silva vs GSP. Sure they have some top level fighters, but they don't have all the fighters. Overeem just became the champ for K1, and Dana's response was thats not a big deal. WTF? Anyone who can hold two belts in two different types of competition is worth giving props too. I think the UFC needs to start co-promoting or else they are going to see a lot of exciting fighters sign with other promotions.

SOMEONE IS GONA DIE AT Dynamite 2010!!
And its not going to be Alistair Overeem.

Bigfoot is not just beatable, he's a goddamn dead man walking! If Kyle can drop him with such ease, imagine what a Fedor "Brett Rogers Decapitation Punch" will do when it lands on that massive melon???

Oh, and Overeem vs Lashley is also another candidate for a "Don't Worry Ma'am, We'll Pay for His Funeral" Bonus.

Overeem vs Fedor, Silva vs Lashley. Now they are fair fights.

I'll be watching, don't worry about that, but let's not pretend we aren't going to see a couple of disgusting and bloody beatdowns.

Ummm....I was pretending to be a hipster, because that's how hipsters talk. Hahaha. I assumed no one would think I was implying a guy who never fought in the UFC could ever be underrated. My fault?
munche- December 17, 2010 at 12:42 pm
@The Fresh One: The problem with Fedor-Barnett is it's a difficult fight for Fedor. M-1 gets paid the same either way, and the last thing they want is their cash cow in a fight he might lose.

You're right about Silva's ranking, he's a mid-level heavyweight that can't hang with top guys, but that's pretty much who Fedor wants to fight. Where you expected more from Strikeforce, I actually expected much less, so I'm pleasantly surprised that they put Fedor against one of the better fighters in their roster. Of course, he's the one Fedor's skillset matches up best against. But this is M-1 we're talking about.

Lysol-
Silva is not underrated. He's probably where he belongs, 9-12ish? I just had higher hopes is all, I'm venting. I've waited a long time for Fedor/Barnett, and patience is wearing thin. The Silva fight would have been great instead of Rogers. This is all hearsay though. I really a huge *ahem* Brock fan, and starting watching MMA when he left rasslin'. That's what you meant, right? Right. Really, there are just other fights I'd rather see. Let Silva fight Cormier, and let's see who's underrated.
The Fresh One- December 17, 2010 at 12:06 pm
I'm sorry, but "Silva's very beatable?" So, before Kyle did he have an aura of invincibility? I guess I just had higher hopes for SF. I really thought they brought in Barnett to fight Fedor. Or maybe Overeem. And no shit he hasn't "earned" a "title" shot, but when has that mattered with SF? This is like seeing 2 hotties and an uggo at a bar, and choosing the uggo. Standards, man. Well, wait. I'm sure Silva's ranking will somehow shoot up to #3 for this fight, because Fedor only fight top competition. Top competition.

LOL, "very beatable." Thanks.

Nah son, the great matchmaking the MMA Hipster/Anti-ZUFFA kids keep speaking of is much better. But frankly, it involves two really obscure, underrated fighters that, judging by your *ahem* "taste" in mma, you've never heard of.
munche- December 17, 2010 at 11:56 am
Fedor-Bigfoot isn't a bad fight. I am shocked they are having Fedor fight anyone in their big 4. I was expecting them to feed him a gimme opponent.

That said, Silva is very beatable, as the Mike Kyle fight showed.
Clyde- December 17, 2010 at 11:45 am
Valentijn Overeem would make more sense considering that Lashley just lost to some dude none of us had heard of before it was announced that he was fighting lashley. No offence, Chad.

The "3 Fedor Moon" picture above is missing 2 of the Fedors :(
WalksInTheDarkness- December 17, 2010 at 11:22 am
And Mousasi is getting lit up by Kyotaro...
Bill Jackson- December 17, 2010 at 10:59 am
I like the Fedor/ Bigfoot matchup. Sorry.
The Fresh One- December 17, 2010 at 10:49 am
So after 6 months of negotiations (even though the previous contract hasn't expired), and all the HW's in SF, we may get the one match up I care the least about? Bravo SF, just outstanding work. So this must be the great matchmaking the MMA Hipster/Anti-ZUFFA kids keep speaking of. Anyone who wants to see this fight is lying to themselves.

Lashley is gonna die!
Lysol- December 17, 2010 at 10:38 am
True. I felt like bitching at more than one person for Scrambled being an idiot, and you seemed like a candidate. Can we agree that Scrambled is an idiot for defending a fight that was not called a freak show by anyone?
knucklesamitch- December 17, 2010 at 10:26 am
@lysol,

What's your point...The above article discussed Fedor/Bigfoot and Miller/Kennedy then says, "But enough about non-freak-show fights. Let's get to the good stuff..." That comment implies that Overeem/Lashely IS a freakshow and it IS. Besides that, freak-show or not is not my fucking point...My point is that Scrambled seemed irritated that CP would botch which Overeem was rumored to fight and I was merely pointing out that several sites are reporting the ALISTAIR rumor.

@ScrambledEggs
@knucklesamitch

A minor detail, but the site reported the Fedor/Bigfoot BEFORE the phrase "But enough about non-freak-show fights". This minor detail was the author's way of saying the fight is NOT considered a freakshow. I hate to imply I'm smarter than you, as I am obviously a Dana nuthugger for sticking up for this site, but most people learned how to read in preschool.
