(Feelin’ lucky?)
Okay, I know it’s too early to do a Gambling Addiction Enabler on Strikeforce’s "Fedor vs. Werdum" show (June 26, San Jose), but I just had to pass along the squashtastic betting lines that have been released for the top four fights on the card. Check it out:
– Fedor Emelianenko -1000 vs. Fabricio Werdum +500
– Cristiane Santos -2500 vs. Jan Finney +1000
– Cung Le -400 vs. Scott Smith +275
– KJ Noons -500 vs. Charles Bennett +360
Let me try to put this in perspective. According to BetUs.com, if you place a $100 parlay bet on all four of the underdogs listed above, and they all somehow manage to win their fights, you would walk away with a profit of $89,150. A more modest $20 parlay bet would net you $17,830.
The weird thing is, the parlay is only ridiculous because Jan Finney is going to get straight blasted by Cris Cyborg. (I know, I know, there are no guarantees in MMA, but come on, that’s a guarantee.) Werdum has a grappler’s chance as soon as the fight hits the ground — he’s the reigning ADCC heavyweight champ, don’t forget — and whoever decided Scott Smith and "Kid Kaos" Bennett should be heavy underdogs against Cung Le and KJ Noons must have forgotten that both of those fights are rematches of fights that Smith and Bennett won by knockout. Legitimate WTF. Cung Le is still a 4-1 favorite after getting starched by Smith in December? The fuck outta here.
So let’s be serious. Twenty bucks on a successful Werdum/Smith/Bennett parlay, hypothetically speaking, would earn you $1,765. In other words, you sacrifice one lap-dance now for the chance to go hog-wild in the Champagne Room later. Think about it.

commentsAlso, Strikeforce; put on some competetive and meaningful fights. How many times have you seen the strikeforce betting odds with along the lines of -130 and +100 for the favourite/underdog? 3? And -2500? How can you even sanction that bout? I think Anderson Silva would be -2500 if he fought steven Hawking.
Werdum, smith Bennet is a better chance but I still dont see Werdum dropping Fedor, but it is only $20, hmmmm, thats a tasty payout for $20, hmmmmmm
- Werdum won a lackluster decision over Bigfoot Silva, choked out Mike Kyle (who, let's face it, is really not that great), got starched by dos Santos and won via Miragliotta stoppage over Brandon Vera. If this were a straight up grappling tournament then these odds would be crazy. But since Werdum responds to being hit in the face the same way a house of cards responds to a leaf a blower and his ground and pound has nothing close to the power of Rogers (who still couldn't put Fedor away), betting on him is a terrible idea.
- Finney - yeah. No idea why she's fighting Cyborg. The goat vs. the t-rex from Jurassic Park was a fairer fight.
- Le was dismantling Smith until he landed that haymaker, but I still think this one could go Smith's way - in his last eight fights, he only has two losses (to Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler).
- Krazy Horse is 3-2 in his last five fights (4-2 if you count the steel pipe incident) and doesn't exactly seem like he's on fire as of late. Noons isn't exactly a world beater and, aside from his fight against some dude in March who was already on a three fight losing streak, hasn't fought in two years.
That said, almost all my guys got starched at UFC 114, so you shouldn't listen to a fucking word I just said. I'll probably throw a twenty on Smith, maybe a twenty on Werdum as well. But the other fights are just a fiery pit for you to throw your money into.
I stand(while sitting at my desk)corrected.
1. Watch the Kung Le vs. Scott Smith fight (where Smith got destroyed for 3 rounds before landing the proverbial "lucky punch")
2. Observe the career paths of both KJ Noons (upward trajectory) and Crazy Horse (downward spiral)
before writing this article
Then it's settled. 2 dollars to win 2,000. I only brought up the $100 bet to Cheer up Charlie over there. Blow his mind a lil bit.
Yeah and betting against cyborg? I don't know about that jazz. Finney makes Werdum look like a sure thing.
Fuck KJ Noons, I hope Crazy Horse blasts his ass.
Continuing on, if you make those four individual bets on each underdog, and are expecting one of the four to win (with equal probability) you will net either -25, -8, 20, or 120, meaning 50% likely to make money! Or 50% likely to lose money! Or, on average across all splinter universes, $107!
