Fight Card for UFC 133 Finalized with Addition of Natal vs. Philippou

Barring something completely crazy and unexpected, the fight card for UFC 133 on August 6 in Philadelphia is set in place. Yesterday, the UFC officially announced the addition of a middleweight clash between Rafael Natal and Constantinos Philippou to the prelims. Rafael Natal is coming off of a majority draw against Jesse Bongfeldt at UFC 124, while Constantinos Philippou lost his UFC debut against Nick Catone at UFC 128.

Even though both middleweights are still searching for their first UFC victories, this bout is likely to appeal to the local fans. Both fighters are veterans of Atlantic City’s Ring of Combat, amassing a combined record of 10-2, with one no contest within the promotion.

UFC 133 will be headlined by a light heavyweight fight between Phil Davis and Rashad Evans. Also set for this card is throwback between Rich Franklin and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, the return of Vitor Belfort against Yoshihiro Akiyama and another attempt at the ill-fated Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara scrap. Not to mention the other seven fights listed after the jump.

Fight card, courtesy of Sherdog:

Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis
Rich Franklin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Vitor Belfort vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama
Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara
Rory MacDonald vs. Mike Pyle

Spike TV Prelims:
Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Alexander Gustafsson
Chad Mendes vs. Rani Yahya

Prelims:
Dennis Hallman vs. Brian Ebersole
Ivan Menjivar vs. Nick Pace
Johny Hendricks vs. Mike Pierce
Mike Thomas Brown vs. Nam Phan
Rafael Natal vs. Constantinos Philippou

@Sparrow
I'm not saying that Ace will ever be champ again, but the guy always puts on exciting fights.

I'm excited for Mike Thomas Brown vs. Nam Phan. I like both of these guys and would like to see MTB get back on track or see Nam get a win so either way I'll be happy.

A quick Wikipedia later and I see Vitor has won 4 out of the 9 decisions he's been in. Not great, but that is better than I initially thought. I've not seen any of the fights where he won by decision.
flyingogoplata- July 11, 2011 at 6:23 am
@Clyde - agreed. Vitor by decision is tough to figure out. I guess maybe he could win the first round and do just enough in the second to win it before he gases then just surviving the third? When was his last decision win? 10 years ago against Herring?
Clyde- July 11, 2011 at 5:58 am
@ intercept; Vitor by decision? I'm not sure I've ever seen Vitor win by decision. Any time it's gone the distance that I can remember he's lost.

That poster is giving me a hard-on.

No prob man, I was talkin' to a guy the other day at the bar who was bragging about watching all fights for free online. I wanted to kick his ass, shit's not even near as fun. Have fun with those hot Aussie chics you lucky bastard.
Redping- July 10, 2011 at 11:16 pm
i actually thought this was a spike tv card, the versus on 4, i didnt realise it was an actual card. I do buy them, I just pirate the spike events because I live in australia and we don't have american cable here. Pretend my comment was entirely about the spike tv prelims, which by the way are 'free' and you have to be pretty loyal to spike to not watch them for free, and WAR VLADDY

That and I have an account on ufc.tv (the worst shit ever, i honestly suggest you guys never get one) so I get to see all the prelims and shit for, well, for 60 bucks a year which would be worth it if anybody ever uploaded anything to the site or if the videos worked. if i'm not a (dumb) real fan i don't know what i am for buying that.

anyway davis/rashad will be humpfest 3000 but the rest of the card will be great
RSparrow- July 10, 2011 at 10:48 pm
Redping,
By admitting that you watch all the fights for free online, everything you have said before that statement has become nonsense. Come on man, real fans don't bootleg that shit. It's all about the experience brotha, I can understand an occasional time conflict but come on...
intercept440- July 10, 2011 at 9:27 pm
ima give my picks right now biatchs ... Davis (cause ..well cuase fuck rashad.. vitor akiyama will be a decison win for vitor..
franklin via ko 2nd round..rivera over sakara cuase well when was the last time skara ever won (i have missed a few events lately so i may be wrong there, but i havent sakara win in 2 years) pyle, brown, mendes, matchuenko, and fuck the rest...
Redping- July 10, 2011 at 9:07 pm
you guys are such negative naysayers, I'm glad I don't listen to you guys and that you're wrong most of the time. This card looks great, I don't know what on earth you're all on about Sakara vs Rivera will be tits on wheels, and Belfort gets a chance to do something decent for once and hand the jap who cheated against his own hero his walking papers. Franklin will come out hungry and Lil Nog is a bit undermatched and probably getting fired but he's still a nog, and I like that Franklin has the edge. Macdonald and Pyle have been on a tear, the Janitor is fresh off a big KO and is cleaning up the division, and the prelims all look insane. If you're not a fan of this FREE card (because if this card costs you money then you're too dumb to deserve to have the internet) then you're just spoiled
Lesnarischamp- July 10, 2011 at 7:46 pm
I think all the "big" fights on this card have clear/obvious winners; Evans, Belfort, Franklin. The only one that might have trouble is Evans, depending on how much Davis has improved.
RSparrow- July 10, 2011 at 7:38 pm
@Danga,
He will never be champ again, has become high level gate-keeper status imo. Forrest aslo, donesky, and I have no desire to watch him fight... same status
Rear Naked Poke- July 10, 2011 at 6:59 pm
@Karma, i'm with you that the prelims on Spike will not hurt the cause, by then the people who wanted to see this event most likely have it purchased already. However, Spike TV Prelims ARE NOT FREE FIGHTS!!

It bugs me when people say UFC on versus or Spike tv's fight night = free UFC, because it is not, these are cable channels that require a monthly fee.

the only people to supply true free MMA on TV where the IFL and CBS with their elite XC/Strikeforce runs. Also a little show on public access sponsered by Ed Soares' then Sinister brand called "Passing the Guard" did great recaps of MMA fights all over the world and those where free.

SPike and VS are not free.
DangadaDang- July 10, 2011 at 6:57 pm
@Sparrow
Franklin boring lately? I guess we're just gunna pretend the Wandy, Chuck, and Forrest fights didn't happen then?
RSparrow- July 10, 2011 at 6:07 pm
(YAWN) will go watch at a bar with no cover. Noguera sucks, Akiyama no fun, Franklin pretty boring lately, gonna be lotttts of decisions. Belfort our only hope of KO and who knows with him, guess it depends how Jesus feels that day.
TheHulkSmash- July 10, 2011 at 4:58 pm
For serious though, do people think Davis might win this? I think he might beat Evans.
KarmaAteMyCat- July 10, 2011 at 4:54 pm
I dunno man I like fights in General and I only pay a Five Dollar cover so. I'll go watch it.
ArmFarmer- July 10, 2011 at 4:42 pm
Wait, you guys actually think this is a good card for a ppv? Seriously? I might not even bother to stream this one.. don't care about any of these fights.
KarmaAteMyCat- July 10, 2011 at 4:31 pm
I'm confused how do free fights hurt it's cause? Please explain.
glassjawsh- July 10, 2011 at 3:36 pm
spike prelims will probably do more harm than good to the ppv buys. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

dope main card though
DangadaDang- July 10, 2011 at 2:45 pm
This is a pretty damn fine looking card. Sakara/Rivera FOTN
Rear Naked Poke- July 10, 2011 at 2:28 pm
