Universal Soldier: Regeneration hit DVD shelves this week, with Andrei Arlovski in the role of "NGU," the lead bad guy. Apparently, MMA veteran Mike Pyle is in the film as well, and winds up getting dead’ed in a fight scene with the Pitbull — which begs the question, if Arlovski had that blade on him the whole time, why didn’t he use it right away? Do Universal Soldiers operate by a strange code of honor when it comes to hand-to-hand combat? And when you call a Universal Soldier a "fucking prick" when one is about to kill you, is there any chance that it will hurt its android-feelings, or is it pretty much an empty gesture at that point? We’re assuming that watching the movie will answer these questions, and many others. Amazon.com’s glowing review of the film calls Regeneration "a rare sequel that far outstrips the original," and credits the realism of the fight scenes to director John Hyams, who was also responsible for the must-see 2003 documentary The Smashing Machine.

commentsThe director did "The Smashing Machine" and a short about Renzo Gracie so he is a big part of the bjj and MT used in this movie.
This is a really good action movie. I expected trash but got a rec from a friend. Glad I listened and checked it out.
And straight to video doesn't mean what it used to. There are a lot of really good direct to dvd releases over the last 3-4 years.
Awesome! I was shocked to think they'd do a part two without at least a cameo from JCVD and Dolph.
I couldn't help but notice them using legit bjj moves in the movie. I don't know if I should shake my head at the sight of Hollywood capitalizing on the "trend" that is MMA or if I should be happy to see the sport getting that kind of noteriety......oh wait this movie came straight out to dvd huh?
Yeah, not a bad action scene for a movie. We've been spoiled by seeing too much actual technical fighting - it's ruined almost all action movies. Anything less than Bourne Identity (other Bourne movies, I'm looking at you) level action is just cheesy as shit. Hats off to this guy for getting real fighters that can say, 'uh, dude, I'd never do that in a fight . . .'
Wait until you see his boner. Then we will see who is gay. It will take your breath away.

There's no way the video is real. One JCVD boner would have killed his dance partner, if not wiped out the entire studio."
Now THAT was gay!!!

Soooo...what you're asking us is if we've ever seen Jean Claude Van Damme's boner, and if we haven't, you have instructions on how to find it?
I don't know, man. Sounds pretty gay."
LOL!!! You guys are some funny dudes on here!

Both Van Damme and Lundgren are in this one. It's a Lundgren and Arlovski tag-team vs JCVD.
And mma samurai, JCVD is in it. Along with Dolph.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I've heard this movie is surprisingly not bad. I mean, it's not going to win any Oscars by any means, but it's not the shitfest one would expect.
But since it appears to be the first non-documentary motion picture by Hyams, and its got the Dolphster in it, I just may set aside my prejudices for an hour and a half.
Couldn't be any worse than the useless tripe in contention for the next oscar ceremonies.
