Fight of the Day: James Irvin vs. Mike Crisman

(Props: Co0lie5terFunKzit. Wow, seriously? That’s your YouTube user name?)

CagePotato reader ‘destinationblood’ sent us this footage of last weekend’s James Irvin vs. Mike Crisman fight at Gladiator Challenge so that we could see for ourselves what all the fuss was about. And despite the shaky, long-distance quality of the video, two things are clear:

1) Crisman knocks Irvin onto his ass with a left hook, right off the bell. (So yes, "The Fresh One," you were right.)

2) That controversial knee that came in the finishing sequence (skip to about 2:03) was freakin’ brutal, and it did look rather questionable. Did celebrity referee Ken Shamrock actually make the right call?

Irvin and Crisman are slated to have their rematch in May. Fun fact: This is Irvin’s ninth-consecutive fight that has ended in the first round.

Umm, ya... its a three point rule, we've had Herb Dean as the ref at these Gladiator Challenge fights very frequently, his ONE knee on the ground, makes no difference, when someone takes a shot, you can still knee them in the face, same applies here, his hand was up, shouldn't have been on the ground like a bitch and he wouldn't have gotten kneed in the chops!

The thing about the knees are, like Guillard's, they were fucking illegal.

Yes the fight was already ending, but still, that dosent mean an illegal knee isnt fucking illegal. He is a fucking professional, he should know better.

But honestly, Irvin hasn't impressed shit. He is fucking ripped and quite skilled but is still content with going into scrub leagues and pounding on people in different weight classes. Big fucking whoop, dont be waiting anxiously by the phone for DW to call you up after impressive victories over guys with losing records in promotions ran by your buddies.

Clearly a knee to the noggin with the other fighters knee on the ground. What a complete loser for calling out Shamrock saying he robbed him. Ken got it right no matter who was winning the damn fight. Follow the rules or be penalized for them you whiney piece of shit !!

I've watched Crisman in the UCE quite a few times, he's mostly sprawl and brawl, and even then it's not all that great. While I wouldn't say he's a tomato can, he certainly didn't seem a match for Irvin, at least a young Irvin.

Ken Shamarock owes a ton of fucking money.

I like the local mma show with Shamrock as the ref and post prime UFC star James Irvin, truly reminds me of the good old indy wrestling days.

all was right in the world ..... then he got that goddamned badboy tattoo on his side.......(insert nightmare here......no no...not diego sanchez...well unless diego was the one causing the nightmare i suppose....anyhow moving out of the parenthese quotes) . then suddenly waking up covered in blow and crack rocks, along with a black tranny.....

that could easily be irvins life... poor bastard...

hope he does get back to the ufc one day.. but if so it will only be to crush cans, and newbies

A got an even better "fun fact"....

From long time UFC fighter to fighting a guy who lost he last 7 of 8 fights(yes 1-7 in past 8 fights) and overall record of 9-19. Talk about sad. Even worse is the that Irvin is a 205 lb'er fighting a can that weighs 175(so , basically a WW with a horrible record in smaller shows). Irvin almost lost again within moments of the 1st round. So, ny bet is that Irvin is secretly back to snorting Oxycontins like M&M's. Seriously, how could Irvin even accept a fight like this?? I compare it to a pro football team playing a lousy college team, or maybe even a high school team. I guess he was that desperate to get a win that he pickeed a WW that lost his last 7 of 8 in small shows and nearly lost seconds into it.

To me appears to be a "Guillard" knee. Illegal, yes. Did it affect the outcome? No. Seems the guy was done, but it's hard to tell from so far away. Why didn't the cameraman pony up the $15 for cageside seats???

i played it frame by frame .. the guy was in transition to his feet, but his left knee was still on the floor when irvin punched his ticket
