Fight Night: CLASH AT CHUMASH!

Tonight, the ShoXC Elite Challenger Series goes down at Santa Inez, California’s Chumash Casino Resort. The first three fights will be streamed live on the Internet starting at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT on ProElite.com. The five-bout main card will be broadcast on Showtime starting at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast). If you happen to find yourself without plans this evening, tune in and pay attention to the following:

— The online undercard is definitely worth watching. Particularly notable is undefeated jiu-jitsu black belt Giva Santana, who will be going for his tenth win against Jaime Fletcher (5-2). Also, kickboxer Chris Cariaso will take on Shooto fighter Rick McCorkell in a 135-pound bantamweight fight, which will be compelling in a freak-show sort of way. Who the hell wants to see a fight between two men that small? It’s inhumane, really — dogfighting is illegal, yet bantamweight MMA fights are allowed to continue. The main card features another 135-pound match between Shayna Baszler and Jennifer Tate, but those are women.

— The fighter known simply as “Malaipet” only has a 2-1 record in MMA, but was fearsome as a Muay Thai fighter, and will likely give fellow 155-pounder Kaleo Kwan serious trouble. Check out Malaipet’s highlight reel here.

— Hands down, the best fight of the night will be the light heavyweight bout between Aaron Rosa (10-0) and Jared Hamman (9-0). Rosa is a Team Punishment member and protege of Tito Ortiz with scary strength and submission skills. Fighting out of San Berdoo’s Unbreakable Gym, Hamman is primarily a striker, and notable for the fact that none of his fights have gone to a decision. Both men are devout Christians. This one’s really tough to call, but I’d bet two bucks on Rosa simply for the greater experience of his team. The truth is, the fight will probably be decided on who prays harder.

— Chumash will be hosting the B-52s on November 15. Tickets are still available.
