Fight of the Day: Jake Shields vs. Renato Verissimo

In honor of Jake Shields‘s upcoming title shot, we’d like to present his first EliteXC fight, which went down at EliteXC: Uprising on 9/15/07 against Renato Verissimo. After the announcer kicks things off with the most unexpected Reginald Kenneth Dwight reference we’ve ever heard, the fight goes to to the ground quickly, where Shields methodically works for the full mount. Unfortunately for Verissimo, Mario “Painfully Late Stoppage” Yamasaki is reffing the match…

Yeah, look at Diaz/Oishi, Quarry/Sell II, Tito/Chuck II, and Lawler/Ninja for just a few more examples of Yamasaki's shitty reffing.

Yamasaki has to be the WORSE mma ref, PERIOD!!!!!! Sometimes when he stops the fights he looks as if he has no clue what he is doing. He questionably puts his arms in the air and VERY hesistantly waves them. He looks so clueless.

Or sometimes he runs quickly over to the action to do NOTHING except look clueless and have the fighters look at him, like are you stopping it? What are you doing???

Worst mma ref, ever

A good example is the Hardonk/robinson fight. And there are MANY MANY more very similar to how that fight ended.

At least when you wait to stop a fight like that, the loser can't bitch and moan that it was stopped too early. Just look at the replay, you got you're ass kicked. The only person that would still complain that it was an early stoppage would be Ken Shamrock.
