Fight of the Day: James Thompson vs. Don Frye

Don Frye‘s most recent fight, at PRIDE 34 on 4/8/07, was notable for three reasons: First, it kicked off with the best/gayest staredown in MMA history. Second, Frye and Thompson briefly locked into a hockey-punching spree that recalled Frye’s legendary brawl with Yoshihiro Takayama. And finally, it ended in a notorious late-stoppage, with Frye getting whaled on against the ropes for a solid minute before the ref stepped in. All in all, it was one of the most memorable fights of 2007. Thompson’s next match would result in a 10-second knockout loss to Neil Grove

Only thing holding him up was the rope. LOL, that was hilarious. I think the ref fell asleep.

No really damage was being done. Those shots where having more of a push effect :)

I remember thinking when is the ref going to stop it. Then after realizing that with each punch thrown, the force with each was decreasing. It was actually kind of funny. Towards the end, I though James was so tired that he was just going to put his hands on his waist and take a break. He didnt have much left and thos4e punches werent doign much damage.

All around though it was a good fight to watch. Thompson is entertaining, as his fights are fun to watch. He goes balls ahead every fight. He either recklessly slugs it out with his opponent to make for an exciting fight from a fans perspective......Or he gets KO'd in opening seconds of round 1!!! LOL
