1.B.J. PennHe broke down Sean Sherk, just like he broke down Joe Stevenson, just like he'll break down any other 155-pounder unlucky enough to be matched up against him. Still, we hope he sticks around to properly clear out the UFC's lightweight division before his restlessness gets the better of him.

2.Takanori Gomi
-
3.Shinya AokiI don’t believe that a fresh Shinya Aoki would have lost to Joachim Hansen. Yes, I’m a nuthugger. Deal with it.
-
4.Gesias Cavalcante
-
5.Eddie AlvarezEntering the list at #5? Yeah, that’s a little crazy. But with back-to-back wins over top ten fighters (Hansen and Kawajiri), the young Philadelphian is on quite a hot streak, and would give Sherk, Huerta, Florian, or Thomson serious problems.
-
6.Sean SherkFacing the threshing machine that is BJ Penn isn't exactly the best gauge of a fighter's abilities (though Sherk's stand-and-bang gameplan was idiotically suicidal). We'll need to see how he does against another top contender in the UFC's lightweight division before we write him off as nothing without his juice.

7.(tie) Roger Huerta, Kenny FlorianIs it August 9th yet?
-
8.Tatsuya Kawajiri
-
9.Joachim HansenHellboy’s back, baby. Though his performance over the last two years has been a little spotty, he now holds career wins over the #2, #3, and #4 fighters on this list. Win or lose, he’s never been in a boring fight in his life.

10.Josh Thomson

Just wondering.. Says:
..how a fighter can beat the number 2, 3, and 4 fighters on a list and still be ranked #9? I don't know much about the Hellboy, but that just seems a little unfair.
slapjaw ackrite Says:
i think it has been some time since he beat gomi and jz, recently beat aoki.
gomi is grossly overrated thanks to the japanese hype, really dont think hes top five. i hate sherk and i think sherk would beat him.

sherk needs to be down by#9 his showing was reaaall bad..
Drewplata Says:
We all need to take a deep breathe and take Aoki out of his #3 spot. It's not going to be easy (Bens), but the right thing rarely is. And no way should Sherk, Florian or Huerta be ranked above Gilbert Melendez. I know his loss to Thompson makes it hard, but they are both top 10ers, I guess. There are so many great LWs out there, this should be a top 15 (and the HW should just be a top 5!). And yes, a fresh Aoki could, in fact, be beaten by Hansen Alvarez. He cannot handle their punching power.
ruckus Says:
the same way he "can't handle" cavalcante's punching power, right?
if there is anything aoki can do its handle the hell out of strikers.
