(The appropriately epic poster for Dynamite!! 2009.)
Members of FEG and World Victory Road held a press conference earlier today in Japan to discuss their collaborative effort for New Year’s Eve, Dynamite!! 2009: The Power of Courage. A batch of fights were announced, and the lineup (via Nightmare of Battle) is looking like this so far…
MMA Heavyweight Feature:
Satoshi Ishii vs. Hidehiko Yoshida
Super Hulk Tournament Final:
Ikuhisa "Minowaman" Minowa vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
DREAM vs. Sengoku Raiden Championship:
Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto vs. Masanori Kanehara
Hiroyuki Takaya vs. Michihiro Omigawa
Hideo Tokoro vs. Marlon Sandro
Hayato “Mach” Sakurai vs. Akihiro Gono
Katsuyori Shibata vs. Hiroshi Izumi
Alistair Overeem vs. Kazuyuki Fujita
K-1 Fights:
Masato vs. Andy Souwer
Ray Sefo vs. Yosuke Nishijima
Notes…
— Though a fight between Shinya Aoki and Tatsuya Kawajiri was expected to be announced, Aoki couldn’t make the press conference due to the flu, so his matchup is still unofficial.
— According to MiddleEasy, a K-1 match between Tim Sylvia and Melvin Manhoef was announced, but Sylvia denies that he’ll be competing at the event.
— Additional fighters who are rumored to sign on for Dynamite!! 2009 include Kazuo Misaki, Kazunori Yokota, Mizuto Hirota, Kazushi Sakuraba, Hong Man Choi, Semmy Schilt, Gegard Mousasi, Badr Hari, Jerome Le Banner, Marius Zaromskis, Andrei Arlovski, and Errol Zimmerman.

Give me Fedor vs. Bobby Ologun and I'm so in.
I don't think that any of those reasons excuse strikeforce or overeem. That just makes strikeforce sound like an incompetent joke of an organization and Overeem breaking his hand in a bar fight... that's not the best excuse either. I don't really see how questioning strikeforce/overeem on this is issue is dumb despite all of the excuses behind it.
Maybe you are just trying to say it's not all overeems fault which I guess I can agree with but the fact remains.. strikeforce's heavyweight champion hasn't fought for the organization in years and yet he's been busy fighting k1 and MMA in Japan for the majority of the time. That's an unacceptable situation in my opinion.
The japanese just like their familiar fights, and Sokodjou and Minowaman are pretty popular over there. Super Hulk typically just refers to an open weight class, not the the guys are necessarily huge, although most of the time they are. Just means "open weight".
@Rjeezy
You basically just explained it to yourself. The last statement that Overeem made was that he was done with K-1 and was returning to MMA, most likely leading to a defense of his Strikeforce belt sometime in the new year. I don't think there is any more info beyond that yet.
StrikeForce and Dream have at least one thing in common, they can have a ticked with fights that are TBA less than two weeks away from an event. THAT is impressive.
I hope that some of those TBA's actually show up though. Mostly I just care about Zaromskis, but there are still some good fights on the card without the TBA's. Hopefully Aoki gets in there as well.
Kinda like it was for "The new Light-Heavyweight Champion of the World... Forrest Griffin."
If not I'll just read CPs live blog the next day.
Anyways, sexiest FW fights EVER so far. If they add Hioki vs Bibi and Mousasi vs Manhoef (K1 rules) like people are talking about it's going to be amazing
I was looking forward to the Oxqwezxcs Yzysdsmhioasei vs. Mqweczwsobv Vquvxizlpqr fight soooo bad.
