(When Jon Fitch says he’s going to wear your ass like a hat, it’s not a threat — it’s a guarantee.)
According to a report on MMA Mania, Jon Fitch will begin his road back to title contention with a fight against Akihiro Gono at UFC 94 (January 31st, Las Vegas). Fitch, who most recently dropped a unanimous decision to welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre at UFC 87 in August, was previously scheduled to face Gono in March, but a hand injury forced “The Japanese Sensation” to drop out of the match; Gono went on to lose a decision to Dan Hardy at last month’s UFC 89. The UFC’s Super Bowl weekend card will be headlined by Fitch’s old nemesis GSP facing BJ Penn, as well as Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva.
In other UFC news…
— Apparently back-to-back losses were enough to get Tyson Griffin (at UFC 86) and Hermes Franca (at UFC 90). Though Aurelio has had an impressive career and holds victories over Takanori Gomi, Masakazu Imanari, and Rich Clementi, he leaves the Octagon with a 2-3 UFC record.
— Spike TV sent out a press release today confirming that Anthony Johnson and Kevin Burns will have their rematch at the TUF 8 finale (December 13th, Las Vegas). Johnson and Burns’s first match in July ended in controversy when Johnson succumbed to multiple eye-pokes due to Burns’s inability to make a closed-fist; a not-quite-on-the-ball Steve Mazzagatti awarded Burns a TKO victory. Both fighters have lobbied for a rematch since then. It has also been confirmed that a middleweight scrap between Wilson Gouveia and Jason MacDonald will also be on the card.
— Tamdan McCrory and Jorge Gurgel may be medically suspended until May 15th — best thing for them, really — while Randy Couture has to sit out until January 15th and Brock Lesnar is on time-out until December 16th.

What the fuck did that guy say?
Rampage never fought in the UFC before he fought in PRIDE...
Sucks to hear UFC cut Aurelio & Fitch, but I'm glad they cut Wellisch. They have enough "_____ Assassin"s
Instead of Fitch making big bucks with the UFC for the remainder of his career, he becomes blackballed from the company while fighting for B league mma orgs. He cuts his own throat because he's too stupid to realise that he is not a marketable fighter and without the ufc if he disapeared from the world few people would care. That might sound harsh but in this economy where everyone is suffering even the UFC, to make such an idiotic move that is gonna damage his entire mma career is beyond me.
To hear Fitch tell it, it sounds like Dana White is a real life Montgomery Burns, trying to lock people up for life.
Dana goes on to talk about how bad the economy is, how they are about to find out about the world and since Affliction is trying to get something together why not give them a run and see if they are any different.
Gotta side with Fitch from what I've heard. Sign away your rights for a lifetime with no compensation for your family if something bad happens. Gotta say the nay no my damey. Sounds like Dana is trying to take advantage of the economy himself and force fighters into one sided contracts.
The real scary thing is, that this might mean people like Forrest Griffin, Chuck, and Rampage have already given Dana their souls.
I was making a humorous observation. Not expressing displeasure that Dana doesn't coddle and protect former Pride fighters. Don't get me wrong, I loved Pride, but I always thought it was funny that people would buy into Prides epic, hero-esque portrayal of guys like Gomi, Sakurai, CroCop, Wandy, Shogun, Soku, etc. They had this idea that even scrub fighters from Pride could float over to the "redneck" UFC and start taking names.
I think Dana took some sneaky satisfaction when Shogun, Soku, Pulver, CroCop, Jason Black, Nakamura, Chonan, Aurelio, Wandy, Herring, and Henderson, (and perhaps there are others I can't remember) ALL LOST THEIR UFC DEBUTS AFTER PRIDE FOLDED (Well, second fight for Mirko, he did beat Sanchez).
Just a humorous observation.
That's the dumbest shit I have ever heard.
Why would any remotely big named fighter give up his "likeness" forever? that's a dumb thing to ask of someone, of course they will say no........my question is what fucking business is it of UFC to even demand that shit.
Of all the dumbass moves, this has got to be the worse.
You are top of the world putting the HURT on any other organization, and you fuck YOURSELF over but releasing your top fighters? FUCK a duck! I can dig letting the scrubs go, but JOHN FITCH? Not smart.
And to the guy that said "rampage, wand, and hendo fought it the ufc before going to pride then coming back so get ur shit straight shawn":
(1) Rampage never fought in the UFC before his current run, so that's wrong.
(2) Wand and Hendo fought back in the "dark ages" or whatever you want to call it - meaning they had little exposure to a big majority of the UFC's current fan base before their current runs. Point is, they were labeled as PRIDE fighters for the bigger part of their careers and people need to stop bitching about some imaginary unfair treatment given to former PRIDE mainstays. Look at guys like Clay Guida or - gasp - Brock Lesnar who never fought in PRIDE but come to the UFC and, for different reasons, receive tough opponents right off the bat. It should be looked at as an opportunity, not as some punishment. If you don't want to fight top fighters you shouldn't be in the UFC.
The guy came in the UFC fresh off the buzz that he was the guy who beat Takanori Gomi - then regarded in the lightweight division. What, you think he's going to feed him cans? He came in and they gave him Clay Guida, who used him as a stepping stone. Then the UFC actually gave him two CANS in a row! They said, "Aww, sorry Marcus that Clay beat you up so here's some guys you should win against." Then they gave him OPPORTUNITIES to become a title contender against Tyson Griffin and Hermes Franca and he failed on it. What, they should keep him around? Next your going to say that they gave Cro Cop the PRIDE fighter two-step by putting him against quality competition when he came into the company fresh off winning the FUCKING OWGP.
What about Rampage, Anderson Silva, Wanderlei, and Hendo? Those guys have come in and made themselves stars in the UFC. Marcus couldn't step up. Stop hugging PRIDE's nuts. Company isn't coming back.
