(Sorry Nate, the Iceman has been doing the goofy-punch for years.)
It seems that the curse of Mauricio Rua extends past Shogun himself. MMARated brings us the disappointing news that Chuck Liddell recently sustained an injury and will not be fighting Rashad Evans in the main event of UFC 85 (June 7th, London); Liddell and Evans will supposedly face each other later in the summer. Liddell was originally supposed to fight Rua in UFC 85′s main event, but Rua ruptured his ACL and was replaced by Evans. No other information on Chuck’s condition is available at the moment.
Since UFC 85 doesn’t have a title fight attached to it — the other notable bouts on the card are a heavyweight match between Brandon Vera and Fabricio Werdum, and a welterweight bout between Marcus Davis and Mike Swick — Chuck’s injury represents a big loss for the event. If I was Dana White, I’d be calling Michael Bisping right now to see how his knees were doing. Not only is the Count a huge draw in his hometown, but he’s also two dominant wins away from being a credible opponent to Anderson Silva (from a marketing standpoint, at least). Unless they want the Spider on ice for the better part of a year, dreaming about boxing money, the UFC would be wise to arrange those fights for Bisping as soon as possible; and six weeks is about as soon as it gets. Nate Marquardt is already penciled in on the card to face Thales Leites. Why not poach him for an opponent?

This card has slowly gone to shit and from the looks of it its gonna keep going to shit. Even if its free on spike i prolly wont watch it, these are some lame ass fights. Luckily UFC 84 is gonna be by far the best card yet.

and in a shitty attempt to revamp ufc 85 danas stated its gonna be the biggest UFC ever with 13fights on the card...but to me its quality over quantity. dana just better do something to wow everybody or UFC85 will make no money and might lose alot of fans ( plus on english telly there are still advertising liddell vs evans )which is wrong because they are waiting for the event to be sold out to turn around and get a new main event! clocks ticking..............
BTW -sounds like Most of you guys want to queer old Chuck or something.
Fill me in if I'm missing something but, would Chuck know where the fight would be before committing to the event? Obviously we know that money's not an issue for him, and with his stature he could easily pull off a fake injury and not be questioned by the powers that be but, why would he say yes to fighting Evans if it was going to be in England and he doesnt want to travel there? Does anyone know if (or think they know) which comes first, the matchup or the location? I'm too drunk to think about this kind of shiet.
"Unfortunately, Chuck Liddell tore his right hamstring during training last week, and being the warrior that he is, he still wanted to fight, which is the reason why everyone in the world loves him," said Dana White, UFC President. "But I wouldn't let anyone fight with his leg looking that way. Let him heal and come back and fight when he is 100 percent."
And to the "adding" of Bisping on the card horseshit.....I am sure I will piss off Bisping fans, but here it goes.
Bisping is such a joke, well not a joke. He is an average fighter set in the UFC to fight VERY VERY VERY below average or ONE DIMENSIONAL fighters. He is there for business and business, PERIOD. He is there for the allusion to the average fan that Bispign is some great fighter......wow did you see how he was pummeling McCarthy...Wow, does anyone know that McCarthy as well as Sinosec and Schaffaer are ONE DIMENSIONAL BJJ guys, they CAN NOT STRIKE. So they have no business in a fight, sure they do good BJJ matches, and that is it. And Bisping won fights at guys that are NOW WW in small shows that still cant make it(Hanyes and Pointon).
90% of BJJ guys that use that as their ONLY and primary skill will never make it this sport. Another example is poor ALberto Crane. Everyone was saying how great his BJJ game was. Well we saw he has no other and he got absolutely punished TWICE inthe UFC and will never see him again.
What is left???? Oh Hammill, who the UFC paid judges gave him the win and Rashad, anotgher overrated fighter in which Bisping lost to BOTH. Although I hate Nate Diaz and his cockiness. he is what a REAL fighter is all about and at the young age of what 24????? Nate says "he dont wan to be babied or sheltered like these other TUF guys" Nate said he wants to fight tough guys and that is it. And in my book that is a fighter. Just how many fights will it take to face Bisping against someone that is a good striker????? PROBABLY NEVER.
I used to be to biggest fan mma, but the busniess aspect behind it is really starting to piss me off. They DONT WANT the best fighters fighting the best fights. That may be the case after 3 or 4 years of milking fighters dry but giving them very very winnable fights. But right now they want thei known fighters FIGHTIGN fights in whichc they are at lesaat 3 or 4 to one favorites AT THE LEAST!!!!
I was proposing Bisping vs. TBA as a replacement for the headlining event, not Bisping as a replacement for Chuck.
